The Royal Malaysian Air Force Sukhoi Su-30MKM displays the power and supermaneuverability of thrust vectoring with a flowing display that often defies the laws of physics. #LIMA Langkawi #Airshow #NigelWoolleyaviation #Malaysia
Forget about politics and this vs that for a minute and admire the beauty and engenering of sukhoi. it will go down in history as one of mandkinds most spectacular airplanes.
I agree Alan. Rather than compare aerobatic teams and aircraft, just admire the ability to precisely fly big fighter jets in unison with added great sound, great colours and skills.
The politics drive me crazy, US propagandists so often cant bring themselves to acknowledge that the Thrust vectoring Sukhois are absolutely incredible and revolutionary in their capabilities, they simply can do things which no other production aircraft has demonstrated. A lot of times they do things which my mind says are logically impossible with a fixed wing. The Harrier is the only fighter that i have ever seen do anything close to as amazing. Screw the politics, as an enthusiast i dont care which country built it, its an engineering marvel. As to practical application, I beleive the Russians are right after seeing and hearing commentary about the SU30 being the toughest fight aside from the F22... Maneuvers like the ones seen here are why.
It's not the plane. It's the man. A bad pilot is a bad pilot. A great pilot is a great pilot weather in a us fighter or a Russian fighter. And sukoi does make exceptional platforms. I love the su-34, I would give anything to fly that duck.
@@shahrulnizam4713 I live in Russia and saw much of Russian Knights. The program is silly. The only difference in 5 years the Su-27 replaced with Su-30.
@@helmyoga7205 because to show full potential a pilot has to risk. Russians are too cautious at Airshows. Only test pilots not a military pilots fly Su-30/35 showing most of the potential. But this video shows a regular pilot flying like Russian test pilot.
@@samoahbay not only that, these maneuvers put a lot of strain on the aircraft, requiring frequent maintenance check and therefore higher cost. the Malaysians don't mind doing this because they usually fly jets with very high tempo. these Su-30MKM will undergo service life extension programme soon. so far only airframe number 11 already done it earlier this year.
List of maneuvers displayed: Flat spin, TVC turn 360 degrees, J - turn, Cobra spike, Falling leaf, Tail slide, Cobra’s stance. Note that the Malaysian pilots are the only ones performing all TVC maneuvers. The Russians perform Flat spins, Tail slides and Cobra’s stance only, while Indians perform only Loop -tumble - yaw and Tail slide.
Su-30mkm is better version with own Malaysian spec and upgrade, it's sad My country not buy f-16 block 40 because we don't get like we want, so we buy from Russia.
@@015AEX dude it's an airshow. it demonstrates how easy it is to point the nose in an instant. it's the reason why RMAF loves both Flanker and Hornet, these 2 planes have amazing pitch authority even at near stall speeds.
great pilot behind the stick id say….amazing the sort of performance you can get out of modern 4.5 gen jest with no external stores and low fuel loads… semua yang terbaik untuk teman-teman Malaysia kami..!!!
The engine intake / compressor fan design must be amazing to ensure constant uninterrupted airflow to the burner area, so no flame-out or comp stalls occur. Virtually guarantees super reliable engine operation in all flight regimes.
@@banzaiib so i could feed those vanes through a drinking straw and expect no change? No doubt the vanes contribute a great deal to the engine feed, but I very much doubt they are solely responsible.
@@bensmith7536 you mentioned compressor stall, and they (VSVs) and the ecu that controls them are the single greatest advancement that prevents compressor stall
@@banzaiib I also mentioned engine intake. It struck me as interesting as both the mig and the sukhoi have pod designs for engines, where western fighters dont. Such a different approach to airflow into the face of the blades, perhaps fuselage boundary flow problem removal. I wonder at the design time that went into getting all the airflow handling just right.
Cheers AA. So you have that addiction too ha! Thanks for watching and commenting. Whilst this demo is quite high up for obvious reasons it is still mesmerising in what it is capable of doing. Enjoy your airshows!
Airshow Addict if i m not wrong then RMAF has also have its fleet of MiG29 which is also capable of thrust vectoring aerobatics why it hasn't been there for the exhibition n display of aerobatics
Ni lh pesawat pejuang yg paling ak minat spnjg zaman,,seksi jk ak nmpk,,dulu dtg ptunjukan lima semata mata nk bgambar dgn sukhoi, apath lgi tgk airshow dpn mata😢
Mr Nigel Woolley - awesome coverage, I really appreciate your work and as such acknowledge it. As for what can be said about the Su-30MKM - absolutely speechless. However, if I were to describe it - it would be a ballerina in the sky with 17,700 kg of testosterone!!!
The pilot was a local boy from padang matsirat langkawi....according to the ground commentator. & considered as Aces of Aces. In RMAF.....i was there this morning 30th
Insane stuff. By the way, this aircraft is No. 18, the same one that did the spectacular flare dispenser mid-air ballet in Singapore before. Who are the pilots, does anyone know? These guys must be rock stars.
Wow, amazing flying the likes of which I have never seen before. It is like the pilot is having an epileptic fit then the most amazing almost hovering. Thank you Nigel Woolley.
@@zainizaudi3678 Aku bukan nak downgrade Pilot kita tapi tak perlu kot yang "One Of The World Best Pilot" tu nampak macam terlalu mendonia macam Jiran kita pulak

Truly remarkable pitch authority; however, modern fighters are well past the type of engagement this aircraft was designed for. Russia abandoned the Su-37(Ultimate maneuverability jet) project in favor of focusing on stealth(Su-57), because they realized acrobatics is pointless. Having said that, this is one of the best displays of pilot/aircraft relationships I have seen.
Than why they installed thrust vectoring on both the Su-35 and Su-57 if they abandoned this concept of close combat? And why Americans have tvc on F-22? But as I am writing this, trough my mind goes that, with Su-57 the Russians maybe wanted to show they can make stealth fighter, and the same goes with the Americans when they put tvc on the Raptor… Either way, you don’t lose anything by having tvc after all, but I believe there are many benefits of having it in close combat, wether to get yourself into a better position or to evade incoming missiles.
I have to say amazing flight performance. Must say Kuddos to the Pilot for his skill and say the flight envelop of the plane is unexpected. At times I was just expecting the plane to fall out of the sky.👍👍 two thumbs up.
I only know russian pilots can do this. But now i know malaysian pilots can do it also. Even indian airforce cant do this advanced manuevers just basic move Wow
@@iskandarjokerface94 I have an exact number: 12. In 20+ years. Put that against the total number of rigrous training hours for 272+ aircrafts and you'd know why the teachers are the teachers.
The power of levitation at the core of this unbelievable fighter jet. It doesn't fly, it just wallows around in the air like a cub trying to get acquainted with her surroundings. At times during the performance I was under the illusion of witnessing an RC plane instead of a real world flying beast. Western display pilots, please, ditch the high alpha pass out of your sequences.... The standard to be met now is way way higher above the horizon. This fighter jet has no match!!!!.
This is a beautiful bird and all these moves are awesome. ..Too bad it will be engaged and blown out the sky by a f35 or f22 well before it gets a chance to do all of these pointless acrobatics
@@TerryWarfield wait a minute!!!!. I think the Su-30 has an on board IRTS. Whenever the right time comes let's see who detects whom first,...., LOL!!!!!.
@@victormanuelpolanco922 The F-35 has 6 EO cameras for full 360° coverage as part of DAS (basically 360° IRST), while have a larger and much better radar than the Su-30. The F-35 also has loads of IR reduction measures as well as obviously radar stealth. The Su-35, which has much better sensors than the Su-30, would be lucky to detect the F-35 at 30 km. So to sum this up, the Su-30 would be expected to detect the F-35 at maybe 20 km or something around there, while the F-35 could detect the Su-30 at 350+ km. That being said, Su-27 variants do own airshows, as long as they don't crash in the crowd.
@@ivanlagrossemoule all along its production the F-35 has been plagued with a whole lot of technical flaws. Should they be sent to war it won't be long before its technical reliance will be proved sound or not. Basically a 2nd gen. fighter like the Mig-17 kicked the Phantom ass over Vietnam. The lessons learned outta this proved costly for the US, not the least of which in human lives. Certainly I love the way F-35 have performed in airshows so far. It's a great 4+++ jet fighter but don't lose sight of the Flanker lineage. So far it owns airshows. It may soon own quite a big chunk of airspace right where you don't want it to.
UK quite often invites Indian Air Force Su 30's and Polish Mig 29's for fun and games (This is how BBC understood that Indian Su 30's and RAF Eurofighters trashed F 35 in mocked up dog fight.
Thanks Nigel for the great video, awsome! I was there this morning, the crowd was great as it opens to public on Friday. Manage to wait for a long queue to get into the Eurofighter Typhoon for a photo. But still Sukhoi Su-30MKM is my favourite.
These Sukhoi aircraft are some badass planes. Though I’m proud of American fighter and attack aircraft, what these aircraft can do is sick. Having said that, hovering, slow speed flight, and spin turns all give up energy. While very impressive, maneuvers such as these basically leave an aircraft a sitting duck to be blown out of the sky in actual combat.
sir can i share your video and can i snapshot on your video (snapshot: i will not hide or remove the "copyright @ 2019 nigel wooley") *need to ask you first because i can see it mark as copyright - for personal use & sharing to people who like SU 30-MKM
@Nadia Baig Yes, We use around 292 MKI. MKI is better than MKM, MKI uses better Avionics, Electronic warfare suits and Radars All Israeli techs and Weapons, even Russia after the seeing the capabilities of MKI ordered for themselves as well !!! And Malaysia is an Islamic country they had to stick with Not so great Russian Avionics, Radars an EWS. And Malaysian Pilots were Trained by India when Malaysia received their MKM.
@Nadia Baig Lol. Yes, our Old Mig-21 Bison shot down PAF F-16!! Now Compare Tejas, which lies in the Same class of Jets. With Such Great Features Like Limited Stealth, Low radar cross section, Great GE engine, with Full Digital Cockpit, with Helmet Mount Display and Flight control system and AESA Radar, EW suits and avionics, it would be Deadlier than ever!!! That's why Pakistan Jf-17 backed OUT AND RAN AWAY from this Show to avoid comparison.😂 BTW,Greetings to Afghanistan from India!!😁🇦🇫🇮🇳💪
@@SM_Fato Hello, Yes. INDIA and ISRAEL both Follows the same Principle, If we even have Old Jets, upgrade it to Latest Standards with better Avionic, Radars, EW suits, Weapon integration, New Engine, Air to Air Refueling Pods and Etc. Our Mirages, MIg-29 UPG, and even Jaguar have the best Israeli Radars and avionics and EWS. You can't deny the Fact, that Israel is Best in Avionics and Stuffs!! That's why we Preferred Israeli components on Russian Jets!!
Got comment about comparing pilots on how this aircraft is flown in air shows. Its easy. RMAF flew elegantly because they are not there to sell the aircraft. The Russian do hence they fly fast, sharp and in brutal way. Lambo don't show their cars going at 90kmph. Thats the owner's job..... to show off.
Feck me! That was Awesome! I take it “hit the brakes and he’ll fly right by” is a thing of the past? That thing can turn on a penny! Superb skills from the pilot. Just brilliant. Thanks.
@@symie8 , Have you ever seen the rudders go in opposite directions to act as airbrakes? Or the ailerons programmed to go in the same direction to act as flaps or spoilers? The Russians have experimented with some really out of the traditional box thinking. It is easier to do with FBW and independently powered and controlled flight control surfaces.
David Hoffman - I tend to keep an eye on everything Russian aircraft wise. This beast is a thing of beauty. I always thought the 29 was superior to anything we had in its time, apart from its fuel capacity. Sorry in “we” I meant the RAF. I was in the Air Force during the 90s. I don’t think I’ve ever seen thrust vectoring used so expertly. My only question would be if it could carry out these manoeuvres with a full load, which I doubt. Either way this is a bloody impressive display of airmanship!
