You can do a barking dog using any empty bottle of hard liquor. I used to do it with a bottle of Bacardi, once empty, cover with a cork, and using your hand rub the sides of the bottle for about 10 minutes, take the cork of and drop a match and it will do the same sound and light effects. The left over alcohol that covers the inside walls of the bottle, turn in to a vapor from the heat produces by rubbing the out side of the bottle.

We used to do this with a little bit of white phosphorus dissolved in CS2. We'd place a piece of filter paper on top of the tube, and put a few drops of the solution on the center. The vapors would travel down the tube, and when the CS2 had evaporated from the filter paper, the phosphorus would ignite - and WHOOM!

Another awesome experiment! I've been a bit curious about internal firearm ballistics and couldn't help but notice the wave-like characteristic of this energy release. I wonder if similar wave-like energy production takes place in a gun barrel. The control of barrel harmonics is difficult at best even without factoring in wave-like conflagration. Where would anyone find experimental data for this sort of thing?
@Envergure
@Envergure 15 лет назад
It's a special glass usually (maybe Pyrex) and yes, it's very thick. Mostly, though, all the pressure escapes thru the top before it can do anything to the tube. If the stopper were on really firmly the tube might explode, but they wouldn't do that cause scientific glassware can be very expensive. And it would papper everyone with shrapnel.

As airsoft has stated below us, just a small wiff of it will not kill you, it will only give you a sore throat or alittle worse. Other than that, you are right, it is extremely deadly and he should be alittle more careful with it even though he is trying to make a seemingly dull field look a lot more fun.

@Gmackematix
@Gmackematix 4 года назад
@TheDerpy Kitty Because of its Greek origin, I think it looks awful as sulfur. As awful as 'fysics', 'orfan' or 'nymf' would look. However, because IUPAC had already allowed the British spelling of aluminium, I think they allowed it through as a compromise with the US.
