I’ll forever miss the OG clans of tarkir, the Dragon Clans just don’t hit the same to me lol

Same for me. I got into color pie stuff and was super disappointed to learn that Jeskai became Ojutai. Like the dragon clans are cool sure but they aren’t as interesting without the third parts of their philosophies

Oh yes, thank you very much! Sultai are gorgeous, I love their aesthetic, dark mysticism and elegance. Of course, as a human being, you obviously don't want to live in their clan, unless you're a powerful necromancer. The color combinations are great too. I think this combination has a huge individual potential for developing an interesting character. But also a huge potential for the development of an entire civilization. ... And I absolutely love Silumgar. His design is just great, yes he is a dragon, but there are clearly snakes and something crocodile in him, and the colors are so simple, but so nice to look at. He is cunning, smart, cruel, a master of manipulation and lies, but on the other hand, he can simply take and turn his enemies into smoking puddles of molten flesh, which we see in the text of card "Drifting death" I think his biggest downside is his paranoia, but good characters aren't without flaws. Overall, I think he would make an interesting antagonist.

Really? I feel the combinations were the weakest, no nuance and the presence/absence of Green isn't felt at all
@graysonsnow2832

@@carlosalbuquerque22 So, each color can mean different things, right? And, I believe that in the case of the Sultai clan, Green is a secondary support color, because it disappeared after the appearance of dragons. And personally, I see Green here as a use of nature, they are reaping the rewards. Until death follows life, as one of the cards says. Just as I understand it, the green mana here comes from the humans and their connection to the past, which the green also represents. Of course, the clan itself is not particularly stable, because, as we learned from this video, they rely too much on the help of the Rakshasa, and if they decide to stop supporting the clan, it will collapse under its own weight. Also, let's not forget that the nagas believe that they are descended from dragons, so they have every right to rule over the clan and maybe the rest of the world. This is their legacy and, one might say, destiny. Which also refers to Green and his idea that everything is predetermined and everyone has their own role in the ecosystem of life. And of course there is Black, because it is their ego, the desire to rule and dominate others for their own benefit. Green does not always appear to us in the form of flowers and druids. He has a side like the laws of the jungle, fate and a strong connection with the past, unwillingness to change, or change is too slow. But I see the potential in the combination of colors. It could easily be a character who gathers knowledge and uses magic, which is Blue, but his magic is related to nature, research is to living organisms, which is Green. And he uses all this on himself, for his own improvement, which, of course, is Black. It could be someone like a Golgari, but by adding Blue, he can resist the Green aspect of fate and a clear role in life, strengthening his Black traits and starting to forge his own path, and not just wait until he becomes food for mushrooms. If we are talking about groups of people, we can imagine a city whose inhabitants are aware of the importance of the world around them and the resources that it provides, which is Green, but add intellect and knowledge in order to correctly manage these resources and promote the progress of their city and their inhabitants, which is Blue, and now let's add Black, so that every inhabitant of this city wants something big, wants to improve himself and his environment, because a favorable environment has a good effect on each individually. Everyone improves himself, not forgetting about others and the world around him, and controls changes in his environment through a systematic approach to change and a reasonable allocation of resources. Well, or you can imagine a bunch of selfish pragmatists who use each other for the common benefit, exploiting nature, but still partially controlling the consumption of resources. The color pie is fluid, you can imagine a lot.

@@graysonsnow2832 You make good points, but again the Green in the Sultai is only hinted at. We get the Naga castes as you said, but this doesn't really change with the absence of Green in the SIlumgar. Both clans are essentially the same, which is awful worldbuilding if you mean to show the importance of a color in a faction
@graysonsnow2832
@graysonsnow2832 Год назад
@@carlosalbuquerque22 Well, maybe? I thought the whole point of clans is that one of their colors is secondary. maybe for Sultai Green was not as important as those... ancestral trees for Abzan, or whisperers for Temur. Perhaps for them, Green was just a resource. But with the advent of Silumgar, the Sultai lost all respect for life and nature. And the powerful and huge Meandering Towershell turned into only a living tombstone, a warning to everyone, in the form of a Wandering Tombshell. It's also worth noting that the Wizards in general are still having problems with the combination of Green and Black. Witherbloom and Golgari are very similar, of course, there are differences between them, but sometimes they get lost. especially visually. I think the Sultai even found a gloomy and secluded snake nest among the Green, it just became more prickly and dead with the arrival of dragons. But it's funny how humans basically brought green mana to the Clan and were pretty low in the hierarchy, but after the arrival of the dragons, they were able to rise above the nagas, but they lost their connection with nature, and possibly with the ancestors. I don't really remember this part, so I could be wrong. In any case, my point is that perhaps the change in the clan did not occur in the clan itself, but in their environment. And it may not be shown as often visually on the cards of the Sultai themselves, but I still look at the Meandering Towershell and Wandering Tombshell cards as indicative of clear changes. Someone lost something valuable to them personally, someone lost their unity, someone lost their passion, and someone lost their magic. Sometimes it affects society, people, architecture and behavior, but in the case of the Sultai, it probably affected their environment the most. But that's just what I see. I may be wrong, after all.

@@graysonsnow2832 One thing is being secondary, the other is complete absence. What you say about respect for nature, for example, is not really illustrated in the games or story: both the Sultai and Silumgar exploit nature with no difference at all.

Great work on all the factions of Takir. Enjoyed your mentions of what aspects of each of their colors brought to the factions and what they lost with the remaking of history. Hope that we will see similar with the factions of other planes.

Honestly, of all the clans/broods these were the worst design. Not only is it "Black is evil hahahah" but it desecrates Southeast Asian cultures, which don't get a lot of rep. To cap it all off unlike the other clans you don't see the effects of the loss of Green mana. Just poor desgn all around

Fr the only thing that was sorta lost was a slight amount of mana gain and some plus 1/1 or plus 2/2 on creatures. I don't think I'd say it desecrates SEA culture as there was and is the level of political machinations and snake motifs that we see in the sultai but it does fall into the trap of exploiting a racial/cultural minority as the bad guy
