Bayezid wasn't a bad man, but he had no impulse control and did not understand how to play the game. He thought by being blunt and honest, he'd come across as honorable but it was just reckless. He went down the same path as Mustafa but at least he knew how to be a bit more cunning. It's a shame, because if you compare who's a better person, Selim is a snake. But you don't play the power game by being a nice guy, and once Sulieman lost Hurrem, it was like he had no love left in his heart.
They were truly scrapping the bottom of the barrel of Princes. Neither of these princes should even be a prince. They came out of the womb fighting each other. Both did despicable things and would be even worse once they had full power. Sulemon was so deep in grieving that he couldn't see straight. He fell for Selim's act of following his mother lessons in life. And frankly, I don't think that he even cared anymore. I think they both underestimated their sister though. The sad thing is Gulfem. She was his first woman. After the death of their son, he never touched her again. She has been silently waiting all this time, though all these women, for him to notice her. When she reminded he of their shared son's death, trying to bridge the gap, he shut her down. Her last hope died at that moment. When all the other ladies were gone, she thought she had the chance again. But everything he is is buried with Hurrem. You can see the hope and love leave her eyes. So sad.
Suleiman should have known how Selim is. He was a lazy, womanizing drunkard. If it wasn't for Hurrem running damage control and his wife manipulating and pushing him, he would have still been wallowing in the filth. Even as a prince in the principalities, Suleiman had to reprimand him over and over about his vices and not taking care of his district. Hurrem had to send money to him to cover time and time again. His wife made him even worse. She had an evil streak Hurrem never had. The reason Suleiman supported Selim had nothing to do with his abilities. It was because he was Hurrem's choice. With her passing, he was supporting her decision even though he was not convinced because he was in mourning and paying tribute to her in any way he could. He had a lot of guilt about the way he treated her over the years.
Bayezid is by far the most likeable out of the two remaining brothers (in the series if not in history), but he would have made an awful Sultan. He's too emotionally driven, too rash. He acts on impulse, not rationale. If Bayezid had become ruler, it would have been too easy for his enemies to destroy the ottoman empire. All they would need to do is provoke him and he would be sending out his armies on foolish unwinnable wars until either he had no men left, the armies revolted or the empire went bankrupt. All because of Bayezids pride and uncontrolled anger.
But this betrayal of selim is something far beyond...for the throne...then what is called brotherhood...very pathetic....karma...what hurrem did to mustafa hits back with bayezid....but i feel very sorry for him😢
What is the use of being the just Suleiman...killing Bayezid a d putting salim on the throne was the biggest mistake...and unfair unjust verdict he made. He shud have investigated
