I’m surprised at all the non-supportive comments, “Less is more”, “overdone”, “ruined the original”. His interpretation is not trying to “be better” than the original. It’s a completely different take to the original that it becomes his own. Stop comparing it to the original. It’s not sacrilege to modify Sultans of Swing. Lol. I understand the less is more philosophy. I happen to think the solo at the end of Comfortably Numb is one of the best solos ever and it’s not overly technical. But it is exactly the technicality and runs performed here that I really like, it’s well done for what it is. I think it’s genius. Let’s be honest, some of the comments are by guitar players who are envious of this guy because they can never play like this guy.
Absolutely correct. However it feels hard for me to take buskers seriously who pander to the audience with their setlists, and Sultans is definetly a certified boomer classic.
This is not Sultans of swing but an amazing idea of exploration of ideas over the same progression and song structure. So you are right, there’s no point in comparing.
Black Steel Tactical Not at all. This is a backing track with its purpose to be improvised over. You can’t deny this is amazing and very tasteful playing
The improvisation by Miguel, the additions, and take-offs while returning to the root of the piece are indicative of the talent of this young man. He takes us on a virtual tour of Sultans with more chord progressions than the ear can imagine, and returns to the original seamlessly; a sign of a very accomplished musician.
This is testament to how so many people can just walk by something truly brilliant and not even look. For anyone with talent, don't be discouraged, brilliance is brilliance ⭐️⚡️
@@morganwhite2176 amazing man yes of course you can use the contact form from my website www.miguelmontalban.com or socials IG or FB @miguelmontalbanmusic to get in touch! :)) thank you 🙏🙏😜
As a Guitarist playing for 30 years,,,,,this is the pinnicle,,,,this is beyond,,,,,this is when you question yourself as a guitarist "do I deserve to play?"......Miguel is displaying an insane mastery of chords/arpeggio's/fret work.....its hard to watch....it's the very top top level....it's poetry.
I'm also playing guitar since over 10 years, I've seen Vai, Andy Timmons, Petrucci and a lot of great guitarists live and thought I've seen everything but this guy somehow still impressed the living shit out of me.
What a trance, mark knofler would be like giving you a standing ovation for this, excellent skills with melodies synced perfect, so glad to listen this maestro!!!
I cannot begin to explain my admiration for Miguel Montalban. This man, not only has extraordinary guitar techniques, but is able to phrase them into tearing and heart-ripping melodic arrangements. It's a very personal opinion, but his musical sense resonates through me and through I believe a lot of people. His music profoundly touches me where a very few things do. Miguel Montalban, I don't where you are at the moment or how you are doing, but I wish you all the best.
Horrible how many stand listen to a talented street busker, for the entire song/instrumental or what ever act, then just walk away without even a little contribution. Talented this guy. 👍🏻
Miguel not only played his very own version of Sultans of Swing, he picked that song up, threw it in the air, slashed it out of the air with his guitar & slammed it into the permanent memory of that street corner forever. Best version of this song ever. So good, that Dire Straights should feature this version on their greatest hits album.
Its Amazing how many people walk through life not even caring to take 2 mins out of their day to give some respect to such raw talent! I would literally be captivated by Miguel! Phenomenal blew me away first time i heard this!
I know, right?! With the way he’s making me feel right now, I can’t imagine how I’d feel just sitting there listening to this beauty, pure music coursing through my veins.

Miguel have been my role model since i started playing the guitar three years ago, if it wasnt for him i proberly would have never started. Thank you miguel :D
Aww man I loved this message. Dude I’m so glad you follow your dreams to become a guitarist and I’m so happy to have been your inspiration that’s sick, keep on rocking dude!! 🤟🤟🔥🔥🔥❤️
All those people who walked by without even stopping by or not even noticing him seriously need to discover life. Their priorities are definitely in wrong places. You just walked past heaven.
I'm a big knopfler and straits fan. And Miguel has a few nice parts in his version. But keep in mind, a lot of these people, maybe like me, too, see such a performance everyday. In the morning, noon, evening. And if you have kids, you need to go to work. You can't stand everyday there to listen to him.
*What you must understand Indraesd or whatever, the people who just walk by are Aliens, like from another planet. You see Aliens do not possess, emotions, Joy, Love, hate......... nothing*

Rather than replicating a song made by somebody else, you did your own thing, your own arrangement. This level of execution takes years and years of dedication, patience, practice and more practice and even more practice. KUDOS to you dear Severus Snape. From lecturing at Hogwarts to a true World-Class guitarist. Never too late.
This is world class... If I came upon this I would be 20 minutes late to wherever it was I was on my way to. How people just walk past is beyond me. I love music and this is as good as it gets. Go Man!
Indeed I still remember when Terri was awaiting for me in my spot ready to shot this, was my last Sunday before I escape for winter holidays, she captured a magic moment of the last solo of that winter:)) cheers! Thanks for your comment ✌🏻🌏🎸
I was psyched to see the guy dancing in the beginning... Too bad he quit after looking around.... Stuffy crowd... Id have been twirling like a Fairy... Shredding that guitar..jah rasta

Waanzinnig virtuoos, levendig inspirerend, diep emotioneel rakend, sterk energieopwekkend, spartelend melodieus, ritmisch perfect, onbegrensd creatief inspelend op bestaand thema, kortom absoluut perfect! In alle opzichten een ongekend genie. Pagini is er, spelend op zijn viool, een beginnend amateur bij. Enorme dank Miguel, dat u dit met ons allen deelt.
I was blessed to see him playing last summer. I can say without hesitation that it was one of the most graceful and magical moments of my life. I keep thinking about it. Thank you Miguel.
he's better off having none of those 'right' connections, can you imagine Simon Cowell trying to persuade this fella to sell his soul to pop? ''listen to me, get a hair cut, drop the guitar thing and sing on the count of 3 ... oops i did it again ...
When I was young everyone was required to play an instrument of some sort at least one year, usually either in elementary school or high school or both. I think the problem is that people these days have 0% exposure to real music and have never even tried to play a real instrument. People are totally ignorant of how hard it is to even play a guitar in a mediocre fashion, and this guy just crushed it. One of the best covers I have ever heard.
The most awesome cover of Sultans of Swing I've ever seen on the internet. No, it's not just a 'cover', it's underestimate. It's his own 'interpretation' of the piece. I have to say so because all the other covers (of the piece) are just mere 'covers' , that is, mere 'copies', but this guy plays it in his way . Amazing ! He made the piece much more colorful by giving it a Latin touch in some parts. My jaw dropped all through the listening. My Goodness ! Why does he play on a street? Why doesn't he make his album? Why doesn't he do real concerts?
I've seen SO many guitar solo videos, and this one is possibly my favorite of all time. Not sure how it doesn't have much more love. The variety of licks and the phrasing (most of the time) seems absolutely incredible. Pretty sweet tone too, with a little bit of variety as well.
I have been at Oxford Circus numerous times when this musician is playing, he generates an atmosphere at this London hub, that's sonically transcendental.
At first, wanted to state 'over embellished', but that's unfair. That young man understands one of the greatest bits of music ever pulled out of strings. He clearly can play. Note body language, even his feet say 'concentration' and 'focus'; pure confidence. We don't need identical covers, we know how it goes, interpretations are what prove great music.
Astounding! It 's like throwing pearls to swine; people so wrapped up in their own little bubbles they don't see talent staring them straight in the face. Taught me something though. Will never walk past a busker again without stopping to listen to them and giving money. Bravo to all these buskers who bring a little joy into our lives.

Wow, as the author of the video I feel I have to comment on all the comments that my video has received, Miguel playing as he does is like Marmite.....you either love it or hate it.......personally I love what he does but appreciate that his music is not to everyone's taste.....I could listen to him all day (and often do by playing his CD's) I could also stand there watching him, he's amazing and to hear him play is a million times better than what you see or hear on my video. My husband and I heard his music in the distance as we walked down Oxford Street in London, it was amazing so we had to cross the road to see who it was playing, I was hooked from the first note I heard him play...........I am so happy that we stumbled across Miguel playing in London and I can't wait to see him play again!
You did a great job posting this. Awesome guitar player, and on the street! Even Mr. Mark Knopfler himself I guess would feel good for the justice done really well in his music.
Don't worry about the trolls. Their comments only speak for who they are not you, the artist, or the vid. Question: Who's more likely to leave a hateful remark; an expert guitarist or a failed guitarist? A person who's on the path to their dreams or a person who's given up? The haters hate themselves and justify it to the world behind the safety of an anonymous screen name. THANKS FOR UPLOADING!!!
Thanks so much Terri for making the effort to post such a wonderful video and to share your experience . I found it while searching RU-vid for guitar solos/instrumentals and became hooked instantly . The song is an all time great and his interpretation of it is superb. He is an extremely talented musician and a great performer and I often wonder why such talent does not seem to get the recognition that it deserves. I have been learning guitar myself for some time and appreciate his skill. Two others that were previously unknown to me before RU-vid- Tommy Emanuel and Justin Johnson are well worth listening to.Thanks again for sharing your fantastic experience -Mike
My Father had this Fleetwood MAC Tape in his old car, just played it all the time. Fond memories, even thou we had our ups & downs. It just makes my mind go crazy listening to anything fleetwood mac.
It's called an interpretation. It's the musician's interpretation of the song. He is not trying to play sultans note for note. Even when knopfler plays it night after night he doesn't play it note for note. What kind of world would we live in if every artist copied the next. Why would we need more than one artist in any discipline. This guitarist is extraordinary.
We live in an incredible time. No more is talent locked away behind some record label and a room full of executives who determines who gets seen or not. Real talent can be seen any time, any where.
how pleasure listening to such beautiful music and also noticing people reaction like ego , appreciation, support etc thats the perfect street show ... god bless this guy
This made me tear up. I know nothing about music except if it catches my ear and moves my heart this did both. Wow I can’t imagine the time this guys spent with this guitar to get so good. It’s like a old friend they just get each other. Keep it up buddy.
I've been in the Music Industry most of my life and you Sir have given RU-vid the greatest 9 mins 30 secs of guitar ever! Beautiful and powerful! The feminine spinning around the masculine! The bowns ,yellows and orange colors you paint with your guitar are magical! No one has ever come close to this and I include all the greats! You beat the lot of them! A very well done to you! Just stunning!
@@dandelion7131So true! You are a genius! And thanks for the 50 kg of salt you delivered to Aunt Sally in France yesterday! She loves it and is set on walking by the sea in September 1945!
Mientras muchos musicos mediocres se hacen famosos y hasta ganan premios, este muchacho desde la frialdad de una calle le recuerda al mundo lo que significa ser músico y por supuesto, como se toca una guitarra. Así es la vida...
