Understandably, a lot of folks are asking why we only tracked U.S. domestic box office for the summer releases. While we love that we have fans around the world, the easiest way for us to decide what movies we will track, what the cutoff for the contests should be, etc, is to judge it based on a May-August release window in the U.S. The Secret Life of Pets, Jason Bourne, Star Trek Beyond and others are still rolling out worldwide, which would complicate the process and extend it into the fall season. We love our international audience and will be sure to at least widen our discussion to include worldwide numbers going forward. Thanks for watching! - Dan Murrell (@murrelldan)

+The place for Me to post stuff You miss the point. How fair is it to compare two movies worldwide box office when one of them may not have released in the same amount of countries. It's simple and logical to only use the domestic to be fair and partial.
@JoshBlanksby
@JoshBlanksby 8 лет назад
+The place for Me to post stuff Erm yes exactly, you just proved the point? They chose to go with domestic which means there is no disputing anything, but if they chose to do international so many movies wouldn't have made the cut so what would be the point?
@JoshBlanksby
@JoshBlanksby 8 лет назад
+The place for Me to post stuff But those indie films still opened domestically, that's different from not at all.
@sjshoker

It's just about choosing an arbitrary measuring point that is easy for them to use.
@JoshBlanksby
@JoshBlanksby 8 лет назад
+Hebl von Heblowitz Because it's the ONLY way to be fair and partial. They have to choose one or the other, domestic which is a fair comparison to compare for that area, or worldwide where some films have a clear advantage. There's a reason why any time a debate like this happens they only compare domestic, because it's fair plain and simple.

I think it's pretty good as well although I'll admit upon rewatching I definitely saw a lot more problems, neglected characters, plot holes some rather awkwardly done scenes. Still it is enjoyable I'm not going to hate on it but that is probably the kind of things that critics were picking up on and disliking
@Nebuchadnezzar31
@Nebuchadnezzar31 8 лет назад
I admit the movie has flaws, but Fassbender's scene with his wife and daughter were very strong. Was Apocalypse himself one note? Maybe. But I still enjoyed the film and it was far better than Last Stand and both solo Wolverine movies. My only complaint was that the Quicksilver scene felt like fan service.
@nemesis3587
@nemesis3587 8 лет назад
Apocalypse look weak? Did we really see same movie? He nearly destroyed half the world, He fight against most powerful mutants (Magneto, Storm, Xavier, Jean Grey) and none of them could hurt him, the only thing destroyed him is one of the most powerful force in Marvel universe. If it looks weak what look strong?

This is easily the biggest complement the internet has ever paid me. It is a true honor to be recognized for winning something with the Screen Junkies after arguing to my screen during so many Movie Fights. It is particularly touching to beat Hal in the one year he finally wins. I mainly entered to compete against my wife and had no illusions that my eventual triumph would be forthcoming. Thank you for providing this opportunity for everyone who got to participate and for giving us great content every week. - Adam

The biggest surprise this summer is just how many tentpole blockbusters either underperformed or flat out BOMBED. I think this year will be a wake-up call to a lot of movie studios that JUST b/c it's a sequel does not mean it'll perform like they hoped. Civil War, Finding Dory, and Secret Life of Pets are the only smash-hits as far as box-office goes. I'm not sure what's the "breaking even" point for Suicide Squad but that's a close runner up as well.
@sarasamaletdin4574
@sarasamaletdin4574 8 лет назад
That has happened in many summers really. It just makes studios want to take less risks and make more sequels when they can not be sure marketing will save films. It is something that does not nessecarily make sense but that is the way it is. They should have smaller budgets and focus more on quality but it is the way it is. But some franchises like TMNT, Alice and Independence Day died this summer too.
@tamelo
@tamelo 8 лет назад
Considering how everybody put Suicide Squad low on the BOX predictions, it's really surprising it end up close to $700mi WW, without China that gave X-Men Apocalypse $120mi. I don't see how WB might lose money wit it.

I too enjoyed it, though I also liked Tim Burton's first take. I think Tim Burton's brand of nonsense is pretty close to Lewis Carroll's - taking absurd ideas seriously but with a twinkle in the eye that says they know it's nonsense, and isn't it wonderful as they invite you to share the joke. It's something that I don't remember being in the Disney animated version at all. Looking Glass isn't a perfect film, but what it does well are things I value in a movie - it has a moral core, clear affection and respect for the source material (something BvS could have done with more of), and some cool ideas.

+LaughingWolf Metacritic is horrible. If there is one opinion by a popular critic or famous, that review weighs out all the other reviews and counts as the most of the score.
@remliqa
@remliqa 8 лет назад
Disagree on Metarcritic.I have seen multiple times that the aggregate can swing rather easily by just one 0/100 score.That doesn't even take into account that it's Metacritics that determined whether this review is a 39/100 or 0/100 instead of the reviewer.Unlike RT , it can be fair to say that Metacritic actually rates the movie (instead of just collecting the scores). As for the snooty factor, I find Metacritic to be just as snooty.They do use the same reviewers after all.

Don't play smart, you didn't have one to begin with. Acting as if your movie opinion is more valuable than someone else's puts you in the same category as fanboys who tried to shut down RT. Congrats.

Schuky9 No you didn't have to write to me , and you certainly didn't have to be insulting when you did. But that does clearly say that i struck a nerve with my comment. I hurt your feeling which wouldn't happen if you weren't a fanboy. So writing to me as a butthurt fanboy does make my point for me.

I found civil War to be quite overrated. I mean it's still a good film but it wasn't as good as I was hoping it to be. The airport fight was ruined with all those one liners. The Winter Soldier was a lot better IMO

Definitely torn with it. I was hoping for a more intense and involving story, but it felt like they played it way too safe. Nothing changed from this movie and everyone was definitely pulling their punches On the other hand, it's definitely a super fun movie, and one of the better times I had at the theater this year. But yeah, pretty disappointed overall
@misaelbarrientos4922
@misaelbarrientos4922 8 лет назад
+TastyDash I mean I guess, but is it actually gonna mean anything? Film ended with cap telling tony if he needs him he's always gonna be there to help. I bet once infinity wars comes around, all of these splits and superheroes that are criminals aren't really gonna mean anything and everyone's gonna team up anyway. Captain America not being captain America anymore I don't really buy at all. And I'll grant you that I wouldn't wanna see them murdering each other, but then again that takes away all stakes and tension, I enjoy the airport scene a lot, but we all knew no one was actually gonna get hurt. They even chickened out of getting rid of war machine (which I thought would've been a bold move, I love war machine, think he's underrated, but I would've given marvel props for that). So it wasn't as investing as it shoulda been. I get it, but can't help but think this movie shoulda been more emotionally investing.

Yes people enjoyed it but that doesn't mean the structure of the movie worked as a whole. It was a mess and kept shifting tones, I didn't know if I was watching a serious villain movie or just a wacky group of weirdos. There are people who love the movie "Minions", but we can all agree it's a garbage movie.

+shaan imtiaz Because of Deadpool's fidelity to the source material, unlike X-Men Origins. The humor was also perfect and not out of place. And the plot, although generic, wasn't overstuffed and wasn't trying to set up too much movies (it only sets up the sequel with Cable), Suicide Squad was setting up/teasing the solo Harley Quinn, Flash and Batman films, the Justice League, and Katana's backstory will be explained on the sequel.
