Summer Crankbait Trolling Breakdown for Walleye 

Hey Joel, you did an excellent job of communicating how to run lead core line with crankbaits. You've explained what others overlook like the knot and how not to kink leadcore line, no one that I've listened to has ever brought this up, key point 1. You also pointed out that you DO utilize the crankbaits dive curve as well as the lead core for final depth. And #3 key point ; leader length of line because of visibility, again nobody includes this info. Thank you for an Excellent job of communicating very important key points.

I've been doing lead core trolling for the last 25 years. If you want to feel everything that's going on get an interline trolling pole. They are hard to find but worth it. The last few years I've been using the DAIWA Exceler interline trolling pole and there is nothing better, if a fish even touches your bait before the strike you will feel it through the line. Asking how far down your line is will always start a bar fight. I've run 7 blade pop gears and out 2 colors have seen my pop gear spinning behind the boat just below the surface of the water at 1 to 1.5 mph. I've also been out 3 colors in 10 to 12 feet of water and not hit bottom. The diving lure should make a difference though. Typically it takes one color from your reel to the water line so you shouldn't count that in your depth. Basically I just start at 2 colors then keep letting out colors till I start catching fish and don't worry how deep it is

Do you tie lead core directly to the reel, or use a backing line? What knot to tie lead core to the fluoro leader? Thanks!
