this is how a youtube lesson supposed to be. no bullshit no talking this fret that note... just amazing step by step approach, with all the theory you need showing at the same time.. its just perfect. other channels should take this as an example. 24 min lesson not a single second wasted. you can always rewatch, slow it down.

Couldn't agree more. One of the most well structured lessons I've ever come across. It doesn't just teach you the song. it helps you understand how it is structured, which for jazz is SO important. Thank you!

Exactly. People who are complaining about not enough explanation don’t realize they can just rewatch or google the other stuff

Hi folks, now it's summer time here in europe, a good reason to practice this famous jazz standard from George Gershwin. After over 460 000 views of my original "Summertime" jazz solo here on RU-vid and so many questions from you how I've done this, here is my lesson. You will learn something about chord subtitution and the magic of 8th note triplets in swing jazz. I hope you will enjoy the lesson! All the best for you and don't forget to practice . . .

Hi Guys, o.k. once again if I call a lesson "easy", it's easy for all of you who can play some jazz and blues guitar, it doesn't mean it's easy if know three chords and know nothing about music theory. To play jazz guitar is an art and you need some effort to learn this. It's a hard road by the way . . .
@RaduFunk
@RaduFunk 4 года назад
It's a much easier road for us thanks to amazing lessons like yours! Thank you!

This is a brilliant, crystal clear lesson and approach, and your playing is so smooth and melodic. You have greatly helped take away the intimidation factor i used to feel about trying to learn jazz on the guitar. You are right - it is not an easy road, but it is well worth it. Thank you!

Subbed after second video. I was poking through some sunny lessons and landed on you. These videos are killer. Don't have to spend 10 minutes talking about how to build chords and other nonsense you should prolly have a handle on before trying to dig into these. Get in / lay down layers you need to understand / groove those layers / get out. Big fan of this style.

Great lesson thanks. I’m just starting my jazz guitar trip & I love this logical, progressive approach. I’ve learned all but the last level so that’s next week’s challenge! Would you say this is the way experienced, competent, jazzers think about constructing a complete solo over a given chord progression?
@AchimKohl-JazzGuitar
@AchimKohl-JazzGuitar 3 года назад
Yes, that's the way advanced jazz players think during improvisation, maybe they use more different concepts and mix the whole thing up, but that's the way it goes. You need a plan for a good solo btw . . .

Great lesson thank you! Does anyone know where I can find a recorded version of Summertime in this key (Dm) that I can play along with? I’ve listened to a bunch of them, and the only ones in Dm are either Colitrane on my favorite things (too “out” and advanced for me), or an aggressive vocal version.

If you play the chords with fingerstyle you don't to use your ringfinger, that's correct

If you are playing with trumpet or the saxophon players they all play Summertime in D like Miles Davis.

Great lesson but can you tell me what kind of guitar and amp your using, thanks.
@AchimKohl-JazzGuitar
@AchimKohl-JazzGuitar 5 лет назад
It's a Gibson ES-137 Custom, I don't use an amp for my jazz sound here on RU-vid, I play directly in my audio interface, adding just a little EQ, compression and reverb, that's all . . .

Hi, what is the difference between natural D Minor and E Locrian ?
@AchimKohl-JazzGuitar
@AchimKohl-JazzGuitar 4 года назад
E locrian is the second mode of the D minor scale, it has the same notes as D minor, the root is different, it starts with the "E". E locrian fits perfect over a Em7b5 chord.

I like your channel, but so much pentatonic scale not enough m7b5 arpeggio and jazz pentatonic, with added 7th.
