Hi Tomlin ---- I've been learning your other Summertime version on C harp starting on 8 and 7 , which has been part of my 28 day challenge. Then I discovered this fabulous version .... Great! But lot's of work now necessary , to perfect that 3 whole step bend. Thanks

i have trouble understanding musical theory, and i can't follow along with a C harp anywhere cuz i don't have a working one, but when i find a 'riff' that works i can get down on it and jazz...err blues it up easily...i have a really hard time finding tabs for a good groove that i can play by which i can learn to improvise but this is a great buncha runs here. thanks Tomlin!!

ok, i think this broke the wall. now i can make other stuff sound aight on my G Hohner, other guys (no chicks so far) have now taught me a couple licks because this broke down whatever wall i had in my brain. many many thank yous Tomlin !!

Tomlin, when you initially play the tune in the video, it sounds far more professional than I could ever make it. Question. When you play -6-5-6, on the last -6 as it's a longer note, are you putting a throat or tongue vibrato on that -6 ? or something else?

Hey there Tomlin. Fantastic lesson. I sing this song in a band. Decided to learn the harmonica part. Got it down. The next time the band meets I say let's give it a go and it's great other than the guitarist says we play the song in G minor. WHAT!! I've been trying to figure it out but somewhat lost. Any assistance would be greatly appreciated. Thanks. James

Hey Tomlin, Thank you. I decided to learn to play this particular tune to the top of my present skill level. I have played it hundreds of times. I have always loved it. To sing. It's juicy. Was wondering if you know where I can get the tabs in this style for the second and final verse? I have scoured the online universe with no luck. Grateful for what you do for the harp community. I love your lessons. As a total beginner at a ripe old age - I am learning a great deal and loving it. One thing: my lips tend to stick and eventually get sore. What am I doing wrong?

your lips should never get sore, unless your soaking an old wooden Blues Harp and they have swelled beyond the comb. I suggest a Golden Melody, lick your lips often, put the harp further into your mouth and don't press so hard. Sounds like your pushing the harp into your lips, play nice and soft, set the harp in quite a ways, its not really lip pursing, that's a bad name for it.

When I look at the music on the screen I want the draws to be up arrows and the blows to be down arrows, but that is not the case. Seems backwards to me. Reminds me of when I was learning guitar tab for the first time. It seemed backward to have the High E string on top. Got to wrap my mind around that for a bit. :)

+Quail Studios Tutorials hi Hal :-) it is a weird convention but I like to think of air coming down towards me and air going up away from me. But yes, exactly the same problem as tab ;-)

for triplets say toodle ooo, for bends, eeaah, draw on one to six, teeyo 7 to ten, blow, dway, dit duuh, waaah,, wow, other syllables for the effects, warble and tongue block like on five and six get, the major chord on four and seven, or one side for one note

If you know it or not, the song Summertime can not be properly played (word for word) in the 1st position. So you need to use the 3rd position. You might not like how it sounds in pos 3, but give it a try anyway. When I first played the song in 3rd, I didn't like it. But as I began to play more, it kind of sounded better and better to me. Now I can play the song in swing or jazz style...3rd position.

I am beginer and have only cheap suzuki folkmaster 1072 harmonica and i am just not able to play the note on the 3th hole :( Nice song thou :)

+skatanchurch I'm sorry to hear that. Everyone struggles with that note. If you are a beginner I would recommend learning how to bend the other holes first.
