I got my Summit fridge about 10 years ago (discontinued model, but about the same size as this one). I love it. I special ordered through Lowe's, who would've covered replacement in case of defect. No problems with my fridge at all, it looks great, energy-efficient, and saves a lot of space in my small kitchen. No weird noises - it just hums every now and then. Maybe I got lucky. The space inside is well organized and holds a lot. I don't know why American fridge sizes are so extreme - floor models are either huge, or tiny dorm fridges. This size is perfect for my place.
Thanks for showing us the fridge! Here's a little more info: This fridge is of Danish design, Vestfrost. There are other brands that use this same design. It has two compressors. One controls the freezer and one the fridge. It's should be very quiet as the compressors are probably only running at 20% capacity. Because it has passive cooling, fridge humidity is high. This is good for most produce and reduces spoilage. However, the freezer needs defrosting once or twice a year.

This appears to be the Summit FFBF285SS. This model is 27 5/8" w. x 24" d. x 75 1/4" h. Cabinet is 21 5/8" d. This is a nice looking fridge that has good reviews but sells at a $4-500.00 price premium due to its special smaller size and people's space issues. For the same money, there are several larger fridges out there that have dual evaporators, humidity controlled crisper bins, digital temperature control and metal shelf borders. Home Depot hasn't put this one on sale like others.
i bought the crazy expensive German version of this, called Liebherr in 2008 and am now in situation of spending prob nearly 600 to repair IT, or buy replacement of same size, and relative appearance/quality.... YOUR review was SO helpful as I had considered the summit as well... Can you tell me how it has held up? Mine was over 3K, and was riddled with problems of major frost on back fridge wall, massive blocks of ice near fridge drainage hole, INCREDIBLY loud (like wake you up in the middle of the night loud) popping sounds.... Would love to know how your fared, if there were major problems, if it is still functioning, and what your thoughts are on your summit 8 years later... Also, is there no accommodation for 1/2 gallon milk container in door compartment, or must those go in main part of fridge... THANKS again; helpful review!
I bought a summit in 2009 when I remodeled. It was nice, could clean front stainless with windex. Sold the house, moved and bought GE stainless. OMG fingerprints, must used something like WD40 to clean it and then its still a mess. I have to remodel the kitchen now and I am going back to summit and give the 4 yr old GE away. GE the company who made the Fukushima reactor.
My 3-year-old expensive Summit refrigerator is rusting on the front door! I never clean it with abrasives and never hang anything damp remotely near it. WHAT A PIECE OF JUNK!!
Thanks, very helpful. Is this Series CP171SS? Online appliance store says it's their Commercial Series. Can't find out what makes this one 'Commercial' over the bigger models.
We bought this fridge from summit and were horrified. It screams and squeaks and from start. Unbearable. Summit sent replacement. It sounds even worse. We do not know what to do at this point...
I had major issues with summit appliance as well :/ . They offered to refund, picked up the refrigeration, and then never issued a refund! If you have a complaint to voice, you can also find them on yelp, google maps, and yp.org
Does your refrigerator door seal shut after you close it? And I mean SEAL! The freezer door literally has dents in it from people's feet when trying to pry it open! It takes at least a minute before it will open again. I'm all for efficiency, but this a bit aggressive. By the way, freezer door works fine....
