In this video I'm reviewing the SuperSprings SumoSprings on my 2019 Toyota Tacoma TRD Off Road. Check out the Tacoma bump stop install video here: • HOW TO - SumoSprings ...
SumoSprings are a direct replacement for your factory Toyota Tacoma bump stops. They are designed to reduce sag when hauling or towing and also smooth out the rear suspension when driving over rough terrain. They are a progressive spring rate made of a durable micro-cellular urethane and are virtually maintenance free.
Personally, I think the SuperSprings SumoSprings are the best aftermarket Tacoma bump stops on the market.
Huge shoutout to Adam at SuperSprings for sending me these Tacoma SumoSprings for a review!
If you are interested in buying some SumoSprings for your Toyota, I would suggest reaching out to SuperSprings so they can help you find the best setup for your rig.
Thank you for watching!

I just purchased these and will install soon. I’m running the same lift but I have a lot of added weight. I went with these blue ones to cushion that extra weight vs being bouncy with black ones, especially when I’m out on the trail. Thanks for helping me make my decision!

That's cool how there's a gap between your frame & the sumo spring because whatever you did to your suspenion, my truck is 🦴 stock just a little bit of heavy stuff in it but my frame is about 1/4 of an inch away from the sumo spring. I need to do the front now! But DAMN you are using the shit out of those things you smashed the sumo springs FLAT a couple times lol 👍👍 😳

Yeah I had some upgraded leaf springs for lift in the back. My use case was probably an extreme example with the offroading but hey, they worked as advertised haha

Mine are coming tomorrow, I got the black ones, for 1000 lbs. I have a 2016 Tacoma TRD/Off Road, 3" lift front and back. I do pull a 14' Utility trailer with a Honda 1000 side by side, or 2 zero turn lawnmowers, it does drop the rear end a lot, see what happens, thanks for the great video !

Let's say I wanted more of a budget suspension system lol. I have the old man emu lift kit front and rear but I want this to possibly dampen the jumps and woops I might encounter. Would this definitely act as a super budget suspension that will do slightly better than stock and stiffen it up? Thanks for the video man🙌
@KnightWheelsMedia
@KnightWheelsMedia 3 года назад
I don't think it'll really stiffen up the suspension much. However it will help smooth out the bumps a bit since they're progressive and you won't be be hitting on the stock bumps.

I just bought a 2016 Tundra TRD Pro and have a question for you... I'm planning on buying heavier front and rear bumpers as well as adding my 12k Apex winch on the front bumper. I was watching your excellent footage of these blue Sumosprings and it made me think that maybe I should go with the yellow ones because of the added weight I also plan to occasionally pull a trailer that makes my rear end sag, which is common with our Tundras. Thus, my quest for you is if you would you recommend that I go with the stronger yellow ones, or do you think the yellow ones might be a bit too harsh for an everyday driver?
@KnightWheelsMedia
@KnightWheelsMedia 2 года назад
I would definitely go with a stronger compound. However I’d recommend reaching out to them to ask. Their team is great & will point you in the right direction for your setup 🤙🏼

I have the exact same set up! Eibach+ ICON 3L AAL and before to bolt everything I'm looking for bump stops. Do you carry a constant load in your Taco? I'm not sure if I pull the trigger on the blue or the black...very good review by the way!
@KnightWheelsMedia

My constant load is around 150lbs with the bedrack and about 300-400lbs with the tent and gear all set up. I'd definitely recommend reaching out to SuperSpringsInternational if you have specific questions. They'll get you the right setup!

I will be towing a light camper to Colorado, unhooking, then hitting up some trails. Do you think these lighter duty sumo springs would be the best option or the mid grade ones? I don't want it to affect my suspension articulating.
@KnightWheelsMedia
@KnightWheelsMedia 3 года назад
Honestly if I were you I'd reach out to them for better advice because they're pretty knowledgeable. The black ones (1000lb load I believe) would obviously be better at reducing sag but may be a little stiffer when unloaded. Either way they'll definitely help out!

Does your truck lean with the Eibach and add-a-leaf setup? Which snap rings are you set on up front, and if there was residual lean, did the sumo springs fix it?
@KnightWheelsMedia
@KnightWheelsMedia 3 года назад
Yes the truck still leans, even with a 1/4" spacer on the driver front. I'm set on the lowest setting which gave right at 2" of lift after settling. The SumoSprings didn't help with the lean since I'm lifted & didn't get the spacer for the SumoSprings. So they don't sit on the frame as they're meant to. I wanted to use them more as a bump stop and keep more articulation that's why I didn't get the spacer for them.
@deancole3141
@deancole3141 3 года назад
@@KnightWheelsMedia ok, I was just curious because I have the exact same setup you do but on the middle snap ring still with the spacer and no sumo spring
@deancole3141
@deancole3141 3 года назад
I’m pretty sure if we offset the passenger side coil to the bottom snap ring position, with the driver side in the middle it fixes the lean

Did this do anything for the natural Tacoma lean on the drivers side? Or since you have it lifted the sumo doesn't sit on the frame...?
@KnightWheelsMedia
@KnightWheelsMedia 4 года назад
Yeah since I'm lifted the sumos don't rest on the frame. I'm using them as more of a bump stop. I suppose it could help with the lean if they are touching though! Not quite sure.

Did it limit the flexing more???Since I'm like you, need a better bumpstop than stock ones, upgraded front and still deciding on the rears. My setup is 33s, 2.5" lift and daily driver so no little carrying and towing.
@KnightWheelsMedia
@KnightWheelsMedia 3 года назад
I didn't notice any considerable difference in flexing honestly. I believe under 500lbs of load/force (what these are rated for), the will compress something like 90%, which would make them similar size to the stock bumps. So I don't think you're losing much, if any travel honestly. Especially being lifted, you won't contact the bump for the first 2.5" of travel unless you install them with spacers.
@franciscochongloo1752
@franciscochongloo1752 3 года назад
@@KnightWheelsMedia So it is a good option for ocasional towing or loading and a good bumpstop upgrade for lifted trucks. Thanks dude, nice truck!!

How do they feel say going over speed bumps i dont offroad a whole lot i was looking to upgrade to either timbren or the sumo springs. The sumo springs look like they engage sooner so im a lil worried it would affect ride quality.
@KnightWheelsMedia
@KnightWheelsMedia Год назад
They are progressive so they get firmer the more they are compressed. So they have a relatively soft landing. I've heard good things about both, but either way it's a necessary improvement over stock.
@miguelt.3644

What perch is your eibach set at? Are you using stock or eibach springs on the front? What tire size?
@KnightWheelsMedia
@KnightWheelsMedia 3 года назад
I got the Eibach Stage 1 kit so the suspension is all Eibach. Lowest perch got me about 2" but I'll probably bump it up now that I have a bumper/winch going on Tires are 275/70R17
@GhettoFabulous670
@GhettoFabulous670 3 года назад
How was it without load in the rear? Is it stiff? Can you really feel it at all?
@KnightWheelsMedia
@KnightWheelsMedia 3 года назад
Definitely not stiff. I don't really notice them until I hit bigger bumps (speed bumps or off road). It's hard to explain, but it almost feels like the rear end is getting "caught" by the sumo springs on the way down. Meaning when the frame hits them, it's smooth and then kinda rebounds back to normal. For me this is MUCH better than the jarring feeling/sound when hitting the stock bump stops lol
@GhettoFabulous670
@GhettoFabulous670 3 года назад
@@KnightWheelsMedia glad you reply. Is that the softest you bought? So all in all. Is not stiff, or better than stock. So do you think ill be fine running these without weight in the rear. Bc I plan on keeping the truck light as possible. I don't need no camper, bed rack etc. Maybe sliders, skids, and bed cover. Other Than that, that's it.
@KnightWheelsMedia
@KnightWheelsMedia 3 года назад
@@GhettoFabulous670 yeah I'm running them with an empty bed right now and they're fine. However being lifted there's about 2" between the SumoSprings and the frame. If you're stock height, they'll be touching at rest so they'll be "activated" or hit earlier in the articulation. But yeah the blue ones are rated for 500lbs I believe so they're the "softest"
