So many bittersweet memories with this song. I basically listened to this album on repeat when my mom was in the ICU diagnosed with an inoperable malignant brain tumor and given a month at best to live. This song always brings me back to waking up early on the hospital room benches while she was still asleep, putting my headphones in and listening to Diary front to back while walking through the hospital and across the street in the chilly morning weather to buy us both a coffee from a nearby cafe. She's been gone for a while now, and Diary always makes me think of her, but there are a lot of pleasant feelings that come with all the melancholy at the same time. Music is a crazy thing.
It’s crazy to think this song was recorded in 1993! It honestly sounds like something that would have been released by an alternative/emo band in the late 2000s. SDRE was definitely ahead of their time!
They were so good so early in their career and way ahead of their time. Jeremy’s vocals man. Searing, gentle, whatever in between. How these guys don’t have books written about them is beyond me.
@@GunsNBudder Sounds like you suck. 'Emo' as these dudes slow-coring up rites of springs fucking rules. 'Diary' leading to a thousand awful bands leaning into the cringiest parts of the record absolutely sucks.
ah, goths vs. emos, a tale as old as time... (now wait till the goths and gothics start duking it out... [and yes 'goth' and 'gothic' are technically 2 seperate genres])
Shout to my old buddies growing up from 1993 through 2001. RIP Stephen. You were always a good man, heck even a better man than I am now in 2022. RIP brother. This song will always haunt me. Thank for your contribution to society in the 206, 425 and the 253. You will never be forgotten. LOve you Steve.
I hate the fact that the intro was shortened on this. Why does music have to be in a rush? Anyway, this song is simply awesome. This is like a classic to me.
"Seven" Sew it on Face the fool December's tragic drive When time is poetry And stolen the world outside The waiting could crush my heart Sew it on Face the fool The tide breaks a wave of fear And brave songs disappear The secret voice of dawn This last time raise my eyes You'll taste it, you'll taste it In time You'll taste it, you'll taste it In time You'll taste it, you'll taste it In time You'll taste it, you'll taste it In time The right words In time The right words Sew it on Face the fool The mirrors lie those aren't my eyes Destroy them raise my hand Reflected in savage shards A new face, a soul reborn You'll taste it, you'll taste it In time You'll taste it, you'll taste it In time You'll taste it, you'll taste it In time You'll taste it, you'll taste it In time The right words In time The right words
Super Perfect Cell chill out. He just made a point. Ppl like u are buzz kills. Besides, been playing LEGO Star Wars and wanted them to have the emperor be playable while naked. I think the emperor naked in real life would be gross, but his neked body while in LEGO form would make me drool. So, leave Jamie Dawson alone. Some of us just want a neked LEGO emperor
Sew it on. Face the fool. December's tragic drive When time is poetry And stolen the world outside The waiting could crush my heart Sew it on. Face the fool. The tide breaks a wave of fear And brave songs disappear The secret voice of dawn This last time raise my eyes. You'll taste it In time The right words In time Sew it on. Face the fool. The mirrors lie those aren't my eyes Destroy them raise my hand Reflected in savage shards A new face a soul reborn. You'll taste it In time The right words In time
I know the official lyrics says "Sew it on, Face the fool", but it's not it, right?... The official lyrics also suppresses the sentence "A word" before the "In time" part of the chorus. Actually they sing "You'll taste it, You'll taste it, (A word) In time, The right word".
Same, you must be in the “ needs ibuprofen “ phase of your life like me lol … they are amazing and I haven’t honestly heard this in years… tons of memories coming in.
You’re life STOPPED being an emotional rollercoaster??? When I was young it was because of my emotions. Now it’s a rollercoaster because I see so many stupid people everywhere 🤣
Saw this video on Alternative Nation in the early 90s. This band was a profound influence on my musical taste and opened many doors to realizing other great bands.
@@keithpeabt777it was Low’s first album, and I had never heard of them until that night. Mimi Parker’s voice was hypnotic, so sad that we lost her to cancer…
This has got to be one of the best-structured rock songs of all time. Every melody & riff just fits into the whole so well, and it's perfectly cathartic and beautiful.
+The King Of Limbs Emo *subculture. Emo is a branch of post-hardcore, so there's a big hate on putting an image to it, but there are recurring things to its fashion, like sweaters, geeky glasses for the Midwest version and black jackets and assymetrical hair for the more modern version. The Emo subculture is just cringeworthy
Samuel Pearson I would disagree the stereotypes that are involved with it yes it can be but sadly most emission are middle schoolers who express themselves in the stereotypes and that where the “cringe” comes in its kids ruining the subculture it’s actually a real cool subculture if you look into it a bit more
The whole performance by the group especially William Goldsmith the drummer was one hell of a performance. I really appreciated this band and song even though I'm a child of the 70's. The video was also well done, kudos to all involved.
As a long time fan of SDRE, I really don't give a fuck if Onision or South Park or whatever brought you here, as long as you dig this music, that's all that matters.
Goldsmith is a beast! Been on this kick lately listenin to the music I was jammin back when I was 13-15.... and it's definitely got a lot of sdre and dinosaur jr. I remember when this one was released.
Can't wait or believe that I'm going to see these guys again in NY! These guys are one of the most broken up and back together bands I've ever had the pleasure of appreciating. Thank you Sunny Day 😊
When people try to argue that bands like My Chemical Romance are not real emo, while saying that Sunny Day Real Estate is, I can't help not to cringe because they are just as fake emo as My Chemical Romance (plus the pretentiousness).
I been listening to these guys since i saw this video back in 1994.. SDRE & the band curve got me thru some tough times in the 90’s & early 2000’s. I see people are calling them emo but i always just thought they were 90’s indie rock. Call it what you will. I still love this band all these years later
These are the Godfathers of Emo and so much more. Goldsmith is an absolute Badass on drums here. Lp2 is another great album. True unsung heroes in an-undigital, no synth, non laptop age.
This one is for you, Stephen Cassidy. Love and miss you. I am sorry you went out that way. I recall meeting you in 1993 at first pres in Bellevue. We attended different middle and high schools.
Nope, I'm an adult with fond memories of liking awesome bands in college. Besides, considering you seem to like manufactured Korean pop groups, what the fuck would you know?
So I'm seeing a lot of hate down in the comments…I'll admit I came here from the Onision video, but I had heard of them before, and honestly, they're pretty damn good. They're pretty much the epitome of 90s emo/indie or whatever you wanna call it, which was definitely a high point of music. So I'd like to thank Onision for showing me this pretty awesome band.
Back when I was in med school, listen to this always makes me confuse but still attracted to the “vibe” as if this is drew your own conclusion regarding the song ha ha. And I love it even more as I became old and jaded somehow. 👍🏼
Jeremy is incapable of writing a shitty song!!! I'm a huge Zeppelin fan but he's right there with them, unbelievable man Soo much talent and a unique voice, thank you for the beautiful memories 🤘
This is the golden age of emo. Before pop-punk took the name and created "mall emos". Emo belongs to the hardcore scene. Sunny Day Real Estate and Rites of Spring are the true emo gods!!🤘🖤
I believe Sunny Day was the best EMO-INDIE ever, if there is such a genre. If there isn't, these guys just created their own genre. That's how awesome they were and and still are.
I do think that Sunny Day Real Estate was among the post - hardcore movement, change, progression, etc. They helped the development of Emo as did Drive Like Jehu, At The Drive In, and other bands that don't come to mind. However, I never cared for Emo; too "weak" for my tastes; however, to each their own, live and let live. Peace, as it were
Ty Law But the Bauhaus are technically both "Goth" and "emo"... same goes for Cabaret Voltaire. Actually a lot of early goth rock and early emo shared venues and audiences.
After first seeing this video, I looked for it on a family vacation. I found the pink album, thinking "8" was the song I heard. It's a number lol. Been a huge fan ever since!
It was a feature of the genre most of the time in live performances it was typical not to sing into the mic at all. And also to mumble or scream your words.
