So, about the light blue for mockingjay. I think it’s to represent freedom. There’s a line somewhere in the first book where Katniss is watching some birds flying through the sky, and she mentions that they are free and she is not. By becoming the mockingjay she is working to free the districts from Capitol rule, so the blue represents a bright blue sky of freedom for her to fly in. As for the purple it’s often a color indicative of royalty. It’s a very plush, very expensive color. So maybe it’s to do with the promise of luxury that is given that is then as we know rescinded for haymitch. He gets money, but they kill everyone he might share it with. I think the horse shoe shape will be an indicator that luck is going to play a big part in Haymitch’s survival.

Wait, but PURPLE is the Plutarch's color. I still think that he will be very-very present in the book or even that the POV will be his. Plus, looking at the cover, it is a snake and a mockingjay and they are connected, they are one. Which again makes me think of Plutarch and his potential story : being from the capitol but eventually deciding to join/organise from the inside the Rebellion. He is THE two-faced character in my opinion. Yes, the quote we got is from Haymitch, but i am still not letting go of the Plutarch theory.
Plutarch is definitely two-faced and just because this book might not be from his pov doesn't mean he won't be a significant character. I wouldn't rule out Plutarch entirely either. Thanks for sharing your theories! :)
YES As soon as I saw Purple I thought of the game makers. It's their color. And Plutarch is the only gamemaker in the books we really get to know in any capacity (Seneca doesn't count bc he's only mentioned like two, three times in CF. He's more a character in the movie)

Ok hear me out, its a double meaning. First, its a victors crown and the snake represents snow in haymitch’s ear/killing his family and the bird probably a mockingjay, represents the rebels in his ear/saving lives. Second, its a sunrise in panam one side is the capitol and the other is are rebels? Also the purple represents royalty, perhaps haymitch will be bribed with riches and almost gives in?

I think it'll be written in third person perspective like TBOSAS was, I take it more as the og trilogy and Katniss we got the first person, but these prequels, which this is a part of, will all be third person. If I were to guess. This cover looks more in the style of TBosas too, like on a shelf together they will look more like a series than this one and the original. Just my thoughts, can't wait 4 March!
Serious question: does Haymitch take out anyone in his games? Because he is not the one who threw the axe at the force field that was the competitor who was taken out by it in the end, Haymitch drops to the ground and she throws her axe over the edge, he knows it will come back she does not.... Because that's an entirely different form of defiance....... the games are designed to show that in certain circumstances everyone is capable and will commit the act. Is Haymitch the only Victor without a count of his own?

I think some people answered this for you already but I think a part of his defiance against the Capitol included how he didn't *technically* kill the final tribute in the final battle. The Capitol always wanted a show and Haymitch didn't deliver the final blow like they wanted him to
Hi there, Rose from the discord here ;) Haven’t watched the full video yet, but I’d just like to tell you I read an article where they interview David Levithan, vice president of Scholastic. He said the spikes represent a rising sun, and the almost horse-shoe symbol resembles something that will gain meaning in the book itself. You can read the article on TODAY. However, I also first thought it resembled a victor’s crown, and I think it might have a double meaning. In fact, it makes me think the story will connect the concept of sunrises with the idea of the victor’s crown (or the victory in general) Either way, I do like the cover. It took me some getting used to, as it is different from the circle shaped symbols we’ve seen so far (all mockingjay pin- ish), but with the knowledge this particular shape will gain meaning as we read the book, I am so very excited and think the cover is once again perfect. edit: Omg I just realised this means I can order my bookbinding fabric! Purple it is then, it’ll look great on my shelf :D Another edit: THE QUOTE!! Goodness it’s so good already. And also, the theory of messing with the tapes… that’s so clever. The coming up with the theory part, of course, not the messing with the tapes bit xD Especially knowing Dr Gaul got rid of the 10th games’ tapes (and her manipulating the footage when Coryo was in the arena), it seems very plausible. Another other edit: first person!! I just love first person the most. As someone who’s native language isn’t English, third person gets really confusing sometimes. It took me so long to read tbosas because of this exact reason. First person basically means I can binge read the entire thing, which is just what I want to do xD Okay last edit: the yellow throw is so cute, very sun-like. How perfect ;)

i definitely think there was some more seditious treason-y stuff on haymitch's part that we weren't shown in the CF recap scene, esp. since this is going to be about themes of propaganda-- what did they cut out of the broadcast and not show? i can't wait to learn more. march is too far 😿
Noooo 😭 I was so deep into my theory about Plutarch's backstory. But the purple on the cover still makes me hope he will have some importance in the novel (color worn by the game makers). I'm still happy to follow Haymitch even though I don't really see the interest of following another district 12 tribute whose games we know everything about. Guess we'll just wait and see

Thanks for letting me know you commented about Haymitch's punishment. I do remember reading about an 'overreaction' and talking about feeling like something was missing. But yeah, total surprise that it is from Haymitch's pov but that only further confirms the theory that we've been missing something this whole time
