SunSun HW-3000 Aquarium Filter Unboxing 

Great info and review on this. You spoke the truth like you always do! I’ve never messed with any canister filters but I do want to get into them in the future for sure!

I love my hw 3000, we put a flow meter on it with media and it still pumps out over 740gph, and I love the intake and out take caps it makes it very easy to clean the inside of the hoses, no complaints at all,

I’m glad you did this video. I saw this on amazon a couple of weeks ago, and looked around for info. The only videos I could find at the time where in Chinese. I think I may pick one up, but I may wait for a “install and running” follow up 😂🤣

On my 120g Aquarium, I'm running three 302 SunSun canister filter with a Fluval FX6. May look into getting the HW-3000 for my other Aquariums.

It's all about balancing what you need with what you can afford. I need a car to get to work. Can I afford the Porsche? No, but I can afford the Lincoln and it still does the job satisfactorily and will last with proper maintenance and I dont have to use the Plymouth anymore. Lol

I've had mine for around 4 months and I really like it. It is running on my 6ft long DIY 90 gallon acrylic tank with the intake and return on opposite sides of the tank and I have it set on 2 as far as motor speed. Like you I rarely if ever use the UV light.

Yesss that's a great, honest review! Thank you so much for that. I myself have a cute, inexpensive Tetra Ex 800 Plus - otherwise sold as a Marineland Magniflow 220, I believe - and it does its job just fine. HOWEVER...... as with all cheap(er) stuff: just be more careful!!!

im glad to see the mounting hardware comes off. my tank has a THICK rim around the top and the 304b never fit right without me breaking the mounting hardware. just ordered a 3000 to replace my dead 304b. (i killed it, it was my fault. filter worked flawlessly for 3+ years)

If the handles on your trays break after 3 or 4 yers then you need to be more careful i have a sunsun now for 10 years and the handles have never broke nor do they show signs of breaking. So be more careful i bet your fluval fx 6 has broke parts to and sunsuns are not a back up filter to a fluval they can be yes but as a primary they are really good id use a fx6 as a back up to my hw3000

Hello in your video you mentioned that you don’t use the uv light. Will HW 3000 work without using the uv light?

Is the hose size 3/4 inch on the HW-3000 ? I am looking for a pre-filter that fits. Seems like all the prefilters are 1/2 inch

I've use to have a 120$ canister filter and I switched to the 50$ version of this company and I was very surprised and skeptical of price but I was surprised by how much easier it was to use set up and how quiet. The tubing and plastic parts do seem cheap but you can replace those with other parts for cheap if you want to. So overall unless you want to spend 300$ and get a filter that possibly does I dunno 25% better then not for you but if you are okay paying a 1/3 of the price and have a great filter go for it

If not purchased directly in China i believe most of the Sunsun, All Pond Solutions UK etc are actually refurbished units, make sure to check for repair lines inside etc, for a tad more you can get a better well known make.

I prefer the SunSun/Ehiem tubing. It’s clear which makes it easier to see if it needs cleaning or clogged. The Fluval hose with groves just causes turbulence in the water flow. The Fluval Fox 4/5/6 are nothing more than high flow filters with too much mechanical filtration for me. I run two Ehiem prefilters connected to two sun sun 603b’s (non pump) which those are connected to two SunSun 702b’s. I’d rather have more biological filtration than mechanical filtration. Just my two cents. But good review though.

I have this filter and had an FX6 in the past...the HW3000 is far better overall. You can adjust flowrate and it has a UV light. The best setup would be to use two if these...one should have all bio media while the other focuses on mechanical filtration. The bio filtration filter should be run at the lowest flowrate and you should put a pre-filter on the intake. That will give you the possibility of colonizing anaerobic bacteria and thus nitrate reduction. Run the mechanical filter canister at Max flow to pull all detritus out of the tank.

Need some help with this filter. If you have a 3D background can anyone tell me how they get the intake tube over the aquarium edge and the background? Any extension tubes or work around available?

Idk what your doing the the tray handles but iv had a ssunsun for 4 years and none of the handles are broke. Also the sunsun hw-3000 is not self priming. You have to prime it.

huh they didn't give me bio balls or carbon. I only got filter pads, which i prefer anyway. Carbon doesn't do much and in a tank you typically have enough bio media, if not you can find other ways to get bio media in there other than bio balls in a filter. Still though that's pretty weird.

So why does the thumbnail state, "I do not like this" when you give it a favourable review overall? This seems to happen regularly with SunSun reviews and it rubs me the wrong way. You get a dislike for that.

A comment worth leaving; watch out when servicing and assembling for the ball media. If one ends up in the cylinder in the corner it’ll sound like a broken Honda.

Hello I live in Germany and I am seriously considering buying a SunSun model HW-704B to install it in my 240-Liter Amazonian planted aquarium (63.40 US gallons) So far I have an Eheim Professionel 4+ 600 of 1250 liters per hour (330'22 US gallons per hour) The truth is that Eheim has greatly reduced its quality in its latest versions, especially after the Professionel 2 series, I'm sick of that Eheim filter with small baskets of poor quality plastic, with little capacity for material, it is also an excessively noisy filter (It seems that I have a tractor in the living room of my house, even though the filter is inside the aquarium cabinet) I would really appreciate it if you would give me your opinion based on your experience with SunSun filters, I really read opinions that scare me, there is no middle ground, it happens, from very good opinions, to extremely bad opinions. I would also like you to give me your opinion on the usefulness of UV lamp, I have never used one, I do not know how long it is appropriate to remain lit, but I have been told that it is a great solution for seaweed and germs, is it really a good option to buy this filter equipped with a UV lamp? Sun Sun? Yeah no thanx I will stick with my FX6. Had a Sun Sun four three months and hated it. I threw it in the garbage after three months, I have now been running FX6 for a couple of years and love it. Using Sun Sun saved me nothing, remember you get what you pay for. Sometimes a savings is but an illusion.

I once used sunsun, with UV, I did not get flow rate, and water movement, like that of eheim 2217, these filter's are very lazy, I am not using any of the Chinese brands, prefer eheim or JBL crystal profi.
