Used a 304b for a while until it just started leaking one day. Replaced it with a used fx5 and that one is still going well so far. Of course I probably just cursed it and I'll get home to a flooded living room.

Just about to buy one of these (October 1st 2021 so should be the latest one) to pair up with my fx4 on my 400 litre (about 105US gallons) tank. Should be a good combo I hope. Will probably fit both with booster prefilters too, should save opening them up too often.

I’m gonna get this cannister filter as a backup. $180 here in Oz is pretty cheap. Great review man. Love your aquascaping. I gotta start rescaping my setups.

I own 3 SUNSUN's a 304b, 302 and a 602. They have all been great. I do notice a little. Bypass inside the filters but nothing bad

@Dipak B I haven't looked at the new ones yet. I'm fixing to set up a 135 in a couple weeks and will be doing a little more research. I have a 304b for it just not sure on stocking yet to see how much more I'm gonna need. 304 has been great on my 60 gallon

I got one. Holds a ton of media. Pumps a lot of water. Just treat it gently when servicing, the plastic parts are fragile. Does a great job though.

Long term update on this filter I purchased in Dec2019. Leaks like a screen dor on a sub (no apparent damage to seal. Bypass when dirty is at least 50%.Cleaned and serviced, it flows with media 390gph a fair cry from as advertised. The UV fixture ceased to work about a year ago, a quick test with multimeter shows it is the fixture NOT the 3 bulbs that are tested and working. Did I mention it leaks... So final word (40yrs of fish keeping) it is JUNK

I’ve been using sun sun canisters “same ones I started with” for 4years now. I absolutely love them. I’m currently waiting for the hw 5000 to come back in stock.

HW-3000 has much better flow than the 704b, the reviews are basing the flow on the two way splitter output. If you install the same inlet and outlet from the HW-3000 on a 704b the flow is dramatically better on the HW-3000.

Glad I caught this, as I was about to buy 2 HW3000. Now I must wait for 2.0 Version... FYI, this Video was blocked on green screen all day. I have seen this with other's uploads in last month or so. What is RU-vid doing? I currently have two 703B in my planted 150 (60x25.5x24 Rimless) Discus tank with LW-603 pre-filters on each.

704b leaking , about a year old, replaced the O ring , added that white sealant tape . Leaking less but STILL leaking so there’s a tote under it

I've had a 304 b for about 4 years, loved it, but a piece on the inlet connector cracked and now it's tripping my gfci. I replaced it with an FX6 to team up with my HW3000 on my 180g. I have several sun suns and they run great, but you have to treat them right, the plastic is fragile.

I just set up my first canister, a 704b a couple of weeks ago...still cycling. It's a little noisy so I'm ordering a replacement impeller to see if that changes anything. Other than that, I find it to be a great filter. I couldn't believe how fast it cleared up the first water in the tank that looked like milk with all the suspended white sand in just a couple of days. LOVE those pipes on the HW-3000! Would love to find a set of those to replace the 704b ones. Anyone know where those might be available separately?

I cant complain i run a 150 reef 6ft long on 3 of these.... work perfectly for over a year now. Ps (no leaks) and maintenance numerous times

Wish Fluval came with the same attachments. Never had a problem with fluval leaking. Thinking about the sun sun but I'd rather have the self priming. Will probably watch more vids before the commitment is made. Sorta like buying a car. Thanks for the info.

Can we take out the head and test the uv light by switching on the head? When i try to test for my unit, the uv light doesn't turn on?So i am not sure if the uv ia working.Is this expected? I mean it will turn on only when the head is inserted into the canister and locked?

Thanks for the video Jay! Seems like I waited an eternity for this update. I was planning on getting the 3000 from Ebay for $128 but instead I ran across an used 704b from Facebook Marketplace for $30, just needed an spray bar! I have it running on my 75 gallon now along with an 304b I purchased new. I love sunsun now after having 2 fx6 running on my 150 tall, I feel like sunsun can really give fluval a run for the money just like you said. The cost is good for people that are on a budget!!! You said you didn't like the water flow, well I don't like the ehiem green tubing and think that sunsun should switch to all black to really blend in with the background.

I have 8 302's I run on my 40 breeders. I've had them for 3 years. Only issue was had one leak from a bad o ring. Great cheap filters.

it's a bit shorter than a 704b other wise it's the same as the older 304,404 etc.

Hey, I got a brand new SunSun HW 304B Yesterday. I don't know if it is normal but it is making some noise. Is it supposed to be super quite or it makes some motor noise? I know this is 3 years old but how cheap are FX filters in the USA? I'm in Australia and the FX 6 is $1k whereas the HW 3000 is sub $200

Fx6 is not that expensive here. I just got a hw3000 and the flow is fine better than my 704b.

Don't worry about it being old the HW-3000 is still a relevant filter and a really good one. You can still get the HW-3000 here with no media for 134.99 USD.

it's fine, I get 42 to 43 decibels on mine and they do get even quieter after a bio slime builds up. In a cabinet you can't hear anything. My Tidal 75 makes wayyyyyy more noise than the HW-5000. Plus with the HW-5000 you can reduce the pump speed digitally so you can dial it back if you need it extra silent.

I own it, its hard to trouble shoot. I dont understand the directions for the skimmer. I have to call the turtle tank cleaning guy to come out everytime my Daughters pet Turtle knocks the skimmer and air gets into the darn lines! I wish it was easier to troubleshoot

I own a sun sun been running on my tank for 4 years now before I bought it I did lots of research on you tube for the best canister bought minds on Amazon I have the 302 for my 55 gallon I upgraded to a 75 gallon as my gold fishes are getting bigger and it’s true what they say gold fish are nasty eat & poop a lot and my sun sun is still doing it job keeping my fish tank water crystal clear + I have driftwood & rocks in it when I open my canister every 3 months to rinse the media 🤢 now I’m gonna upgrade my canister filter and use the 302 on another tank for my opinion sun sun is a good affordable canister filter if you have any issues with water leaking from the cover I use plumbers tape wrap it around the edge and it should help the first time I clean it the rubber seal stretch so I been using the plumber tape for the pass 3 yrs with no issues no leaks but I do have it laying inside in a plastic dish container

flow rate is not low on the HW-5000 it's great. remember it's spit two ways with the hw-3000 outlet, if you put the same inlet and outlet on a 704b the HW-3000 is better.

At most with media and head pressure it's 400gph and that's being generous. Even an fx6 is only around 450gph.

Quietest filter I have ever used is a SICCE Whale canister 500.

It's not bad at all, mine shows about 41 to 45 decibels and in a closed door cabinet you hear nothing. I have a sicce whale 500 and it's a bit quieter but in a cabinet it's a moot point.

@@Byron4343 not double, the HW-3000 is 134 on ebay, I would get the HW-3000 the whale 500 is tiny in comparison to the HW-5000 with a vastly smaller media area as the trays are half the size of the HW-5000.

Does it even matter? Sunsun does their flow rating based on a empty canister, i.e. no media installed. Regardless the HW-3000 has great flow and the price is still 134 on ebay and that's not bad 🙂 I installed the inlet and outlet plumbing from a HW-3000 on a 704b and when they are both running the exact same plumbing and media in the trays the HW-3000 has superior flow. The impeller on the HW-3000 is also better with bigger blades and less play in the ceramic shaft.

I have a question? Does the 704b has an light when you turn on the uv? Because the one I have is used and when I press in the button I have no indications that the light is on

Look at the button on the filter. You should see light coming through. That's the UV bulb light. If there is no light. Your bulb is probably bad.

Thanks I figured it out! I didn't have the bulb all the way snapped in. I even purchased new bulbs! Once I got it set the right way, it came on.

I use the Fluval FX6 (x2) on my 220 gallon tank. To be honest, I have never been impressed. The Eheim Classic Series is still outstanding. I am considering replacing the FX6 with an Eheim 2260. As far as the other Eheim Filters go, not a fan...

@@stoneysscapes7544 That’s a great question. When I purchased my 220 gallon aquarium, I bought the (2) two Fluval FX series filters at the same time for adequate filtration. I still maintain my position saying I am not impressed with the FX. Happy fish keeping!

Would have to disagree I have both and the HW-5000 is superior. Has better inlet and outlet plumbing, valve block has double o-rings and independent shut offs and a better impeller that produces less noise and more flow.

Real output of this filter: Filter was located 60 inches down from the head (output) Without media - 290 GPH With media that came with filter - 240 GPH

Sun suns are horse manure. I had 3 of 3 leak water. Exchanged the first one after leaking.. Shortly after ( like 2 months )it leaked. Exchanged it again. And like 2 months after guess what it did!!?? Thank god i kept it in a 10 gallon bucket this time! Very poorly engineered canisters. My 2 fluval fx6 ive had over a year have performed flawlesly. Imo sun suns are low priced for a reason.
