Fun fact: for the robot transformation they used the actual toy that was being selled A technique that was used for other series until the cgi came out
He should've had a spider based mecha, but Leopardon is pretty bad ass. It was pretty cool seeing Miles Morales use Sword Vigor in the Spider-Geddon comic
Marvel: ok so adapt Spiderman with his original story, but add a little bit Japan reference so Japan people can watch it Toei: flying car, a robot, and a super evil alien organization , ok got it 👍🏻
What's the problem with you viewers? This aired in 1979 and Zyuranger (or the original Americanized Power Rangers) aired in the early 90s. Both were done by Toei Company, but with permission from Marvel for Spider-Man. History is more important than what comes to you first. And this also has elements borrowed from Kamen Rider (remember Masked Rider on Fox Kids?) because of being a one-man army. Get your facts straight viewers!
Well... technically, they are right: Spiderman was the FIRST costumed hero to fight growing monsters in both human and giant size by using a robot. Leopardon actually PREDATES all the sentai mechas and could be even said to be the first Megazord EVER (if we take the term "Megazord" somewhat loosely to use it on any mecha from a costumed hero that fights giant monsters after fighting regular version s of said monsters on land... that term englobes both sentai and PR and also Supai-chan here)
@@irrespondible People don't even mention other Zords and prefer "MegaZord" over simply "Zord"? WTF!? Reminds me of this link below. UGH! 😡 tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/Main/FirstInstallmentWins
Okay, lemme explain a bit: If it weren't for this thing, there wouldn't be no Power Rangers nor Megazords. STAT. The Sentai project was CANCELLED after JAKQ, and this series and the first two Super Sentai (NOT Goranger) were made thanks to Marvel's money (In fact, Battle Fever J was meant to be Captain Japan, a Japanese version of Captain America). AND thanks to Spidey's Leopardon, we got the giant Mechas rode by super heroes instead of either super heroes or giant mechas (SuperHero Robot series is what these are), that eventually gave us Power Ranger and the Megazords. So yeah, Leopardon is the grand-daddy of all Megazords and Spiderman (no hyphen here, they never romanized it with the hyphen) is the main precurser of SUPER Sentai (to difference from the original solely Sentai, who didn't have a giant robot). Before you ask: Goranger and JAKQ were never Super Sentai until Ohranger, where Toei and Ichinomori's state got to an agreement, leading to both Ichinomori's series to become Super Sentai retroactively. And the only thing this borrows from Kamen Rider is... well, NOTHING. This is just a Japanese version of Spidey. Ever since the dawn of tokusatsu that one-man armies had been in Japan, teams of heroes were RARE. Hell, the only reason Sentai existed is because GORANGER was based on the fact that Kamen Rider Crossovers sold well. In other words: YOU get your facts straight! This is the true history.
Also the guy who forgets he has a little brother and makes some random kid that got hurt his little brother (it was only like two episodes but I hated that subplot)!
Hmm…… That kinda makes sense, considering the first Super Sentai robo is Battle Fever Robo, which has multiple weapons, but is not a combiner like the ones common for Super Sentai nowadays, and such design kinda resembles Japanese Spiderman’s robot. And another fun fact is: The way Spiderman’s car connects to Marveller, is actually similar to Daimos, one of the very classic fighting robots in Japanese anime.
@@J_Lee712 Based on size and weight, yes. But based on power, maybe not, because some megazords have special powers, and some of them are even featured as gods.
@@primusvsunicron1 yep, in fact, originally, Battle Fever J was develop as the Japanese Version of the Avengers, with Battle Japan's original name being Captain Japan, of course, we all know how it ended up
Fun fact: When filming the scenes where the Marveller transforms into the Leopardon, they used an actual Leopardon toy that was being sold at that time to achieve the transformation sequence
I doubt it was done this early… but Marveller did appear quite toy-like later in the show, then going to the less toy-like transformation model(due to the transformation being stock footage filmed for the first episode which was *BEFORE* the toy was released)
@@HanniSeidenba0525 I actually don't know why it was designed that way, it just did.. Also Leopardon is the robot form, the ship was called Marveller. But it still doesn't make sense why it's a Leopard
The fact that the robot suit was stolen mid production and they still managed to finish it using the same footage and it didn't get cancelled is amazing in of itself.
Apparently, the Leopardon suit wasn't stolen. Rather, it was repurposed into Daidezin, the main robot from Denshi Sentai Denjiman. They reused stock footages because it was simply cheaper to do so
Imagine if Japanese Spiderman was in Civil War... Antman becomes a giant. Iron Man: Ok anybody on our side hiding any shocking and fantastic abilities they'd like to disclose? I'm open to suggestions Spiderman: I do. MARVELLER!!! Marveller change Leopardon
pandemonstrosity that's hilarious XD especially as that's what happens in virtually every episode of Japanese Spider-Man, he fights a bad guy at his regular size and then the bad guy turns giant for some reason so he summons his mech. Antman would be a very standard enemy for this Spider-Man lol
Alright. No kidding. Sword Vigor is actually acknowledged in the comic to be so powerful of a move that every Spiderman felt dishonorable to use it in battle. It basically can one shot anything and using it seems like cheating lmao. Hell, the villain in the comic felt so threatened that he need to come and get rid of Takuya first so that Leopardon can't be used against him
@@logicaltips4107 Takuya/SUPAIDAMAN doesn't die, but the vampire bad guy breaks Leopardon when he enters the fight. //Spoiler// Later, Leopardon gets restored and reunites with Takuya. The main Spider-Man (Peter Parker) eventually defeats the bad guy using his own version of Sword Vigor.
Hey, they are just regular bad guys, not some kind of psychos without remorse, they have families and do what they do for them. Some even do charity and help their communities in their free time.
God, this Spidey is intense! His mask means serious business. His costume gets magically worn instantly, except for the zipper. His voice is older and mature than the 3 recent guys. And he's got his own vehicles and mecha.
After finally reading Ready Player One, I wasn't expecting Supaidaman's mecha to look like that! Still, I do thank the book for making me look for clips like this.
Sorry, Timelord675, but they are right: It was a hero that faced size-changing monsters he had to destroy in small size and then he had to ride a giant humanoid robot to destroy them again in giant size. THAT is what makes Leopardon the precursor if not the first Megazord (also, he was made by the same company, Toei, so he fits).
Nope. It's basically a Super Robot, just like Mazinger, Getter Robo, Voltes V and others. The only difference is that those are from anime, and this comes from a toku show, nbut the overall premise is the same. Supaidaman and Super Sentai shall be considered Super Robot shows too.
@@mdo7 okay i just checked it, tony was definitely a severed head due to a disease that ate 80% percent of his body. and has a sister who took on the role as iron man. but wasp call's her the Iron-Bitch for some reason.
in the comics, all Spiderman could get was an accident-prone Mobile that would be the laughingstock of his Universe. In Japan, he got a pimped out car, a jet and the first FRICKING MEGAZORD ever. how times can change, dont you think?
@@LOLMAN9538 most likely false, leopardon was the first use of the giant robots in live action, the true inspiration already came from several mangas or comics in japan which inspired the use of the giant robots aka mega zords.
Just to add to the amusing idea of Spider Man using a giant robot, years after this show aired, Marvel would help create the Transformers franchise and even write the first Transformers comics. And Spider Man actually made an appearance in the G1 Marvel comics, which you won't find in reprints because the comic rights to Transformers are currently owned by IDW. Still, it's a fun coincidence. I have seen lots of people complain about terminology used. Yes this was not the first case of giant robot getting used in Japanese media, in fact the entire reason the show had this robot was because transforming robot toys were really popular in Japan at the time. Still calling it the "first Megazord" does kinda fit seeing as the success of this show is what led to Super Sentai using giant robots, along with helping save the franchise, which eventually gave us Power Rangers. Plus I have seen Super Sentai fans still refer to sixth member of a team as a "sixth ranger" even when the word "ranger" isn't the team's name, so let things be.
gokaiger standardized ranger for all super sentai member as an individual, referring to their ranger keys. But the one I recall questioning the standardization to ranger was Akiba Blue from that unofficial series when she noticed even teams not using rangers in their name nor ones with awkward portmanteau usage like with hurricanger, etc.
Through all of my childhood, i've seen commercials promoting toy cars for Spider-Man that never appeared in the cartoons or in the movies and now, finally, i get to see Spider-Man driving one. I can finally die in peace * shoots himself *
+Chris Hero except in those comics it makes zero sense given his location. Yamashiro, on the other hand, not only lives in Japan (where the number of swingable buildings per mile is far lower than in New York or Hong Kong), but the GP7 is able to fly up to Marveller. Dan Scott is just a moron who thinks every one needs a toyetic car and muh feminism.
Is painful but Japanese make everything better the USA is reality is the reason everything is blocked to usa you can see all video from another country are blocked is painful
I love how as a north american 90's kid I lived my whole life joking "If Spiderman was ever produced in Japan, the poor guy would get a morphing sequence, a robot and a voiceover whenever he did anything relevant". Now what's next? Sentai will someday be produced by Americans into a racialized color schemed to ... wait.
Is he strong? Listen bud. He's got alien spider blood. Spider String, thick ass thread. Grabs a Machine Gun, you are dead. Hey, there, there goes the Supaidaman!
Fun Fact, the Leopardon was the first Super Robo that inspired the Super Sentai to introduce it in their next series. Without Leopardon Spiderman maybe it would have not been Power Rangers.
Unfortunately my friend you cant explain that to the brain-dead slapping fans of Supercenter and what would later go on to become the Power Ranger you know fighting around and giant robots and all that s*** you can't convince them that what they see now it's not new? Electric cars hell we had that back in the 1800s? Elon Musk ain't the only motherfuker to invent electric car are you going to do go to the US patent office and the watch History unfold in front of your eyes of people who had the same idea hundred years ago. It's the Millennials who born 20 years ago who don't know any damn thing. In this case the Power Rangers and all the so-called enemy clones inspired by Spider-Man the Japanese Spider-Man which is a better Spider-Man any damn way I like to see McGuire and that two British guys try to figure it out that they owe their income to the Japanese Spider-Man. Besides how can anybody not dance to Boogie Woogie Spider-Man..
Fun fact: Leopardon suit was stolen amidst the series production and Toei didn't want to run out of budget by asking the costume designers to do another suit, so the last third of the series' giant mecha battles was just stock footage of Leopardon attacks.
iron giant was changed for ultraman ....since they didnt give rights to him disney has approved the rights for using marvel characters ...so leopardon might be in the movie because spidermam and hulk was refrenced firstly in the new trailer
I love how it seems the writers actually watched the show because his entrance phrase is a big shout out to his signature one when he introduced to his enemies ("I am the emissary of hell!")
Turns out the super Sentai rangers are not the only ones with kick butt fighting machines Japanese Spider-Man also has a fighting machine of his own named marveller leopardon
For all of you who are unfamiliar with Japanese Super Sentai or Power Rangers in America. The Super Sentai was 5 Motorcycle Hero's with no Zords, but, the monsters of the week started to grow into giants, so, a Zord called Battle Fever J was the first Zord or Super Robot created. Toei Animations Super Robot shows, which, was also in production with Super Sentai and the toy company Bandai influenced this Power Rangers version of Spider-Man. There were no robot animals in Anime or Super Sentai, until, Daltanious came out in 1979, it had a mechanical lion's head on his chest, after which, Super Sentai and Yuusha Brave started to incorporate the design into their shows. The toy sales is what fuelled the ideals and the designers were always borrowing from Mecha Designers that they admired.
literally a mix of Kamen Rider and Sentai. kamen rider cause he fights alone. sentai cause he's the first to have a fricking mecha! best. spiderman. ever.
For what I've read this Spiderman foreshadowed the Super Sentai (and therefore, Power Rangers) series. Although there were similar "tokusatsu" shows way before it (like Ultraman), Spiderman was the first one where the hero had a combat mecha to fight monsters which could increase their size.
Sextus70 not really a foreshadow cause this Spiderman aired in 1979 or so.. some time before Battle Fever aired. This series indeed is the precursor to the combat mecha which Battle Fever would use and followed by the next Sentai onwards
Daitetsujin 17 was the first toku with mecha combats. However, Supaidaman was the 1st henshin hero with actual combat mecha. In fact, this series was quite succesful that made Toei resurrect the Sentai franchise after JAKQ's big failure, but adding the Super Robot vibes from this toku.
