Funny you should mention Dolphins, because there is precedent there. There have been cases of female researchers being courted and then copulating with Dolphins. After the researcher was arrested for beastiality, the dolphin got super depressed and committed suicide from the loneliness.

That's where it always gets into this weird grey area, the same one Dizzy from Guilty Gear is in. If a character has technically only been alive for 5 or 10 years, but either quickly reached or was created with the body and mind of an adult, is it still bad?
Andriod 21 and Dizzy are literally the same character. Andriod just had her kid a lifetime ago, and we don't interact with her until she has 9 or so years of probably being a fully functional Kirby with sex appeal, while Dizzy shows up at 3 years old and has an egg kid later, and only at Xrd is she 8 years old. There's also status stuff, and she has wing systems.
y'know what's even more fucked up about the Twilight imprinting thing? it's implied that Jacob imprinted on THE EGG, and that's why he was in love with Bella. which means that that author doesn't understand how relationships OR the reproductive cycle work.
3:43 THANK YOU! I went into the movie thinking it would be awesome! But left feeling like a creep because that fish monster was almost infantile in his interactions with Eliza. And I ended up feeling REALLY uncomfortable with the idea that the fish-man wasn't totally mentally capable of consent. I mean Eliza was going to just leave him to sleep, but then didn't and took her clothes off and then cut to next scene. Like did the fish-man know exactly what was happening? Did he encourage it? You sure this lady didn't just take advantage of an unsuspecting fish-monster? Yeah I know I'm probably going too far, but the intelligence displayed by the fish-man left me feeling like he didn't totally know what was going on.
Cristina m not infantile, actually it would be better to deem it like a native to south america in a place it never has been. Natives would be skiddish and scared and quick to attack outsider or something they do not understand. Fishman did that with his abusers because they abused him. When eliza gave him a gift it could be equated to giving food to natives as well because it was said that the natives gave the fishman food as a offering. So it was the only way to gain his trust.

JG JG not stuatory rape, the fishman is aware he just does not know how to convey besides his instincts. I mean gods sake he knew how to speak sign language after a lesson or two.
JG JG yes but thats takes time, in movie it literally took no more than a day or 2 of interaction and he learned egg for gods sake, and by the end he can say a full sentence back.

It would/should be based on physical and mental maturity. If a species lives for 10 days but becomes physically mature on day 4 and mentally mature on day 6 then 6 days old would be the proper age of consent for that species. Or if you go by US standards then day 5 would be the age of consent.
I'm pretty sure the age of consent we put on sex exists to try to prevent immature teenagers from making bad decisions and getting pregnant at 15. Provided that a fish-person is considered sufficiently mature by its own people, I imagine any problems would be irrelevant.
Chris Chen The author specifically worded it as “imprint” which isn’t a sex thing AND the main character is furious toward the werewolf guy bc she had the same thought that everyone outside of twilight thinks, and it’s specifically explained in the book that it isn’t like that.
Jay No I know the kid wasn't Jacob's it was Bella's, I just meant that that was the TYPE of imprint that happened, not like a mating one. It was a connection that was just a guardian for life type of connection. I admit that the familial example I made was a weak one, but it was the closest example I could think of.

idk man most "fantasy crap" sounds pretty awesome to me when you break it down to its base components. And the ones that dont tend to do better when they dont take themselves that seriously. "A woman falls in love with the creature from the black lagoon and everyone but one dude is okay with it" sounds like a Robot Chicken sketch lol. But hey thats just my 2 cents. EbonMaster actually when you say "everyone is ok with it" it ruins the truth when its actually. "Her lesser treated friends and a russian spy want to help and everyone else would see her as a freak for doing such" and I mean my favorite part was when the creature did something pretty wicked. And in the end while it does seem cheesey, del toro can do amazing with cheesey
