The eyedrop tool is probably one of the greatest tools for digital artists, but at the same time, yeah it's absolutely brought about so much annoyance. I'm a graphic designer / illustrator and I am constantly using the eyedrop tool to make sure assets are all consistent with the materials provided by a client. Cause otherwise, you'd have to open up the color wheel and input the RGB or CMYK color code or the even the hex code for the specific color (and that's if they provide you with color codes and not just color sample jpgs.) And if you're working fast, that does take longer than just holding down [alt] and clicking the color. That said, it can be so annoying to make any type of fanart and use your own colors. Cause even if you based it off of the official model sheet and then apply your own saturation and brightness based off of the lighting, people will IMMEDIATELY jump at you and say something like "It's not that hard to just use the eyedrop tool dumbass, watch me do it in 2 seconds right now!" There's sticking to official colors so that the art is recognizable, and then there's complete ignorance of things like lighting or stylistic coloring. The eyedrop tool is meant to be a convenience, but by god it's used more as a tool to try and callout artists and make them feel like their work is wrong. And yes, if an artist is wrong, constructive criticism is much more helpful than creating callout posts, campaigns to end their careers, or death threats. On the subject of the whole "I can't relate if it's not my skin color", like that's such a touchy subjects in even art departments. When I was in a digital art class, people were constantly calling each other out on how their pieces didn't have enough diversity or that they couldn't relate because it didn't include "_______" race. And my all time favorite argument was when a student, who was caucasian / white, did a Sailor Moon piece and changed all of the Sailor Scouts into different races, with their stereotypical cultural garments. Their presentation was them talking for like 10 minutes about how whitewashed Sailor Moon is and that the show never had any "real women of color", so they took it upon themselves to change that so the show would be more relatable to different races. When someone asked "But isn't Sailor Moon already a woman of color?" and the student replied "I dunno, how am I supposed to know what race she is?" To which they were told "If you google Sailor Moon, you'll immediately learn it's a Japanese show and the characters are Japanese." With the student's response being "Oh well, how was I supposed to know? They could have been Korean or Chinese or I dunno, don't blame me!" I'm sure at the core, there's good intentions from some people. But for others, it seems to more about trying to prove their right and justify their ego, then providing helpful and constructive criticism to artists. Alright thank you, art rant over. Gotta get back to designing a Christian Punisher who wears a vest made from the cross Jesus was crucified on and shoots bibles at sinners.
That's a bit of the reason I don't like person of color as a phrase, because people super need to understand that ethnic minorities in the US aren't just based on skin tone

the "black" octopus girl from splatoon since she's black (or, well, has a skintone that black people have), there are nutty people who take it upon themselves to harass any artist that they think drew her too light... 90% of the time, said accusations are completely false and she's actually either a) in lighting that'd make her skin lighter, b) in a style/picture mood that'd make her skin lighter, or (most infuriatingly) c) not ACTUALLY lighter than canon and is only seen as lighter than the colour sample that the accuser has because they used the eyedrop tool on the darkest part of the shadows on her model.

I really don't understand the need for people to look like you to relate to them. I hear it every now and then from all kinds of people, but I just don't get it. People feel fucking empathy for animals, fuck, I planted a lupin in my garden a while ago and ended up crafting a fucking fence around it because I felt sorry for how often it got knocked around but kept coming back and trying to grow. I don't know if I'm just a huge sap or something but it baffles me that people struggle to relate based on fucking skin tone or hair.
