#FreeGameFridays - The NFL presents the Super Bowl XI full game between the Oakland Raiders and the Minnesota Vikings. January 9, 1977.
00:00 - Start
19:50 Vikings Block Punt
21:23 Vikings fumble, Raiders recover at the goal line
24:10 C. Davis 35-yard Run
41:51 Stabler 1-yard TD Pass to Casper
49:00 P. Banaszak 1-yard TD Run
1:30:38 F. Tarkenton 8-yard TD Pass to S. White
1:41:25 Willie Hall Picks Off Tarkenton
1:43:09 Biletnikoff 48-yard catch from Stabler
1:45:11 Banaszak 2-yard TD Run
1:49:35 Willie Brown 75-yard pick six off Tarkenton
1:55:06 Raiders Stop Vikings on 4th Down
2:05:40 Lee 13-yard TD Pass to Voigt
The Minnesota Vikings of the '70s were commonly known as the Purple People Eaters for their suffocating defense that swallowed run games whole. Their trip to the Super Bowl was supposed to be the icing on the cake, but the Raiders had other ideas searing the vaunted Vikes' defense with a balance of running an passing with both quarterback Ken Stabler and running back Clarence Davis having excellent games. The Raiders set a then Super Bowl record 429 offensive yards on their way to a dominant 32-14 victory.

@@GeorgeFitness-yo8bl Yeah...that team would beat most teams that had come before or after them. They were LOADED!!! And they would've smacked the 49ers if they had beaten Washington in that year's NFC title game. The sad travesty from that era of Raiders football was: The Raiders should have had at least one more Super Bowl title from '83 through '86, at least another SB appearance. Al Davis's undying love for the horrific Marc Wilson, doomed the Raiders on many occasions during that time period.

I've watched just about every Super Bowl since 1973. Super Bowl XI is my most memorable. I grew up in Santa Rosa, California, which is where the Raiders had their training camp. This was in the 1960s and 1970s, so I was a major Raider fan. In January of 1977, I was stationed as a young US Army soldier in Germany. I was extremely disappointed when my 1st Seargent ordered me to perform guard duty on the same day the Raiders were playing in Super Bowl XI. My plan was ruined to watch the game on Armed Forces TV. that night. My platoon was taken out to the NATO 12 ammo facility near Erlangen Germany to guard. I had a plan not to miss the game. Around 10 p.m. I smuggled a small transistor radio up into the guard tower with my weapon. I tuned to Armed Forces Radio and listened to my Raiders win the Super Bowl. Up there in that guard tower, I was screaming and yelling in the dark, and no one could hear me! What a great memory.

@jack brandt The first Patriot Super Bowl winner got there via the absurd call, famously called "the tuck rule game." No one, in the history of football, has been the victim of more officiating mistakes than The Raiders. The blown call on the Lytle fumble cost the country a chance to see The Raiders matched up against the Cowboys, in 78. Imagine that, Snake versus Roger the Dodger. The best Superbowl that never happened...

Love how all the Pats fan complain about a call that was conclusively an elbow to the the quarterback's head. When you ask them why it should not have been called, all they have is because they are SAD. I've watched it 20 times and Papa Bear slams Stabler in the head. Still couldn't stop the Raiders after that and all they had to do was hold them to a field goal......

In the 1970's, the Steelers and the Raiders played each other 14 times and had a 7-7 record. They met in the playoffs 5 times during the '70's and the Steelers had a 3-2 record although the Steeler wins were very close (immaculate reception, 24-13 and 16-10) and the Raider wins were blowouts (33-14 and 24-7). 1:39:15 Jack Tatum demonstrates the difference between football then and football now. That hit on Sammy White would probably get him ejected, fined, and possibly placed under arrest today. All it drew back in 1977 was an instant replay. Also, Sammy White hangs onto the ball despite being decapitated and being named “Sammy.”

This was the last Afternoon SB. We Saw Joe Namath at a 7/11 about 30 mins before kick off. My Father asked? "Who do Like Joe?" Joe said "My ❤️ is with the Vikings. But Theirs "No Way!" They are Beating the Raiders!" 🏴‍☠️

I'm a lifelong Raider fan! Pete Banaszak was a neighbor Ken Stabler lived near my elementary school. Back in the day when most players had a job during the off-season! John Madden was my first coach. My first game memory was SB XI. I remember the players carrying him on their shoulders i was 6yrs old! I hate the 9ers and the Cowboys but I watched the games because coach was covering the game. RIP Coach!.....Rest in Pea....... BOOM!!

Severely underrated. I would love to find some compilation of his calls. Saw some greats and even complete games, really liked him with Raider great Todd Christensen

This is the game that really woke me up to the NFL and to love the Oakland Raiders, I lived in San Jose and watched it at a friends house just to be close to his sister. I don’t think I payed much attention to here at all during the whole game.
