Wide receiver Santonio Holmes made one of the greatest Super Bowl winning catches of all time to lead the Pittsburgh Steelers to victory over the Arizona Cardinals in Super Bowl XLIII.
Patriots Seahawks was more exciting and overall better, after all it was voted the best game of all time. That pick at the end was possibly the clutchest play in super bowl history.
Austin Norton Obviously it is going to be voted best right now because it was fresh in everyones minds. But there are plenty of games that were way better than that game.
even if your not a steelers fan you have to admit bens confidence to throw into triple coverage with under a minute to go in the super bowl and then to put it perfectly on target is pretty amazing
+Spraco Gaming As a giants fan I will say holme's catch was better giving the situation and being in the super bowl, and a good display of athleticism. But based purely on the athleticism of the catch, Odell displays more skill. I mean just think, if holme's catch was regular season, it would still be good but its not as skilled as odell's. If odell completed that catch for the game winner of a super bowl, no one could question that it is the greatest catch in NFL history. So both are better then the other in whatever way you want to look at it. Just my two cents
Not a Steelers fan but I gotta say that is the best super bowl I've ever seen Holmes with a toe tap at the corner of the end zone with three people by him also James Harrison 99 yard pick six definitely one of the greats
As a steelers fan i was so scared when fitzgerald took it to larry land but ben and homes connect. Great game i remeber the day i watched it like it was yesterday
This is my favorite SB of all time. It was so fricken good. So many huge plays that changed everything. Two amazing QB's, and great WR performances. Love watching it every time.
I was there. Decent seats. Best experience of my life. I was there with my entire family. dad, mom, sister, both brothers, both nephews, niece and a close family friend.
One of the greatest hustle plays by Fitzgerald I've ever seen on that pick 6... dashing through blockers, running through the sidelines and actually catching him.. I know he still scored but that will to win is what makes that man so good to me
The catch is phenomenal but no one ever talks about the throw. Ben should’ve never thrown that ball it was triple coverage. Needed to be absolutely perfect and it was. Go Steelers!!!!
@mrghost3601 this comment aged horribly lol. Cardinals are looking to be a bottom 5 team for a loooooooong time. We can't have anything nice in Phoenix. the Coyotes, Diamondbacks, Cardinals, and Suns have had so many troubles over the years.
Pretty Flacko - Is your name supposed to imply that you're a pretty version of Joe Flacco the Quarterback? Or simply that you think Joe Flacco himself is pretty? I can't judge such a thing, as I personally believe that I am the only attractive male on the planet (as all of us guys do, or, well, most of us)... Your channel's handle appears in the comment section of a Super Bowl video, one that features Mr. Flacco himself, so that's why I ask... It's okay to deny the allegation, no one here will throw you under the proverbial bus... I realize you've intentionally misspelled his name, probably in a vain attempt to thwart the geniuses that are Football fans, but unfortunately, I've come across your comment, and I cannot be fooled... I also realize you posted this comment more than three years ago, hopefully you've found a way to survive this long, and are fully able and willing to defend your position. However, if you fail to get notified about this reply, or you're just not interested in explaining to everyone WHY you believe you're so much prettier than Joe Flacco, then your silence gets the allegation confirmed by default... I'm sorry, but the rules of social media are just as vital and serious as our Holy 10 Commandments, and they cannot be ignored, EVER...
IMO James Harrison deserved MVP way more than Holmes. If Holmes didn't make that catch we still had other chances, but if Harrison never returned that INT for a TD we would have lost.
TheCam2125 It wasn't just that he had the game winning catch, the dude had 9 catches for 131 yards PLUS the game winning catch. If Harrison had the INT as well as 3 sacks and a forced fumble, then you'd be on to something.
Having been born in dec 1978, i was to young to remember the glory years of that time. I love the 2008 team. Imo, one of the toughest teams pittsburgh ever produced.
Man you gotta have some massive balls to make the throw that Ben made. Triple coverage and he put it where only his guy could get it. Great throw great catch
The greatest sports day of my life (Steelers fan), even though I watched LSU win a national championship in 2007 and Pittsburgh win a super bowl against the Seahawks. Not only because of the shear excitement of the game, but because I was one of two entire Steelers fans at this guys house that was loaded with people for the game. Had to be around 35-40 people all rooting against the Steelers (me and the house owner were the only Steele fans and people going for Pittsburgh). Shit talking all game until that final drive. Had everybody on hush mouth lol.
this game had the two of the best plays in super bowl history - Harrison's run back and Holmes toe tap TD. both are incredible - and you could add Fitz's TD catch also
Legends Never Die As the Bengals did against the 49ers 20 years before this. Montana drove down the field in under 3 minutes. Both teams left too much time on the clock. Deja Vu much?
They only left 2 and half minutes on the clock. While that is a significant amount of time, If their defense plays well, then they can still win. If 47 hadn't slipped he could have tackled Holmes at about the 35 yard line with 55 seconds left. Time would tick down to about 40-45 second before the Steelers could get to the line and run a play or spike the ball. At this point if Arizona plays Cover 3 up top in a Dime package and have man to man underneath and 3 pass rushers, they should be able to stop the likely plays that the Steelers would run.
@@devantejackson8109 If that guy had not slipped the game could have gone into overtime but homie slipped and was at least partially responsible for their loss
I think this is the best catch ever. Super Bowl, last drive attempt, triple coverage, fully extended arms, toes are in by inches, the amount of skill it took to make this catch is truly incredible
What A Memorable Moment!!! So Happy For Pittsburgh! Even Happier For #Tone10.. Leading Up To This Game Tone Was So Focused, He Didn't let Anything Distract Him.. His Dedication To Pittsburgh Definitely Showed In This Super Bowl Game!!!!!
Arguably, the greatest Super Bowl of all-time. It is, however, rivaled by Rams-Titans, Giants-Patriots (the first one), and even this year's Patriots-Seahawks.
I don't think giants patriots was that great it's just like the last 7 minutes and the fact the patriots were undefeated make it more than was as game imo
jrad410 Well, it's kind of like Super Bowl III (Jets-Colts): Great upset, but lousy game. Giants-Patriots (the first, of course) was most-definitely a better game than Jets-Colts, but was it a greater upset? You can argue that it was--and, all-and-all, I believe Giants-Patriots was a great-one, and that fourth-quarter stood-out the most. So, yes, in my opinion, it does deserve consideration for greatest Super Bowl ever. What's your choice, if you don't mind my asking?
Full disclosure I am a pats fan so a little biased but my favorite Super Bowl would probably Super Bowl 38 just because there was great defense for 2 quarters and then a lot of scoring in the other 2 making it feel like a real balanced game. Not to mention that halftime show
jrad410 I remember telling people in the days following Patriots-Panthers that it was one of the five greatest Super Bowls of all-time, and, looking back, I was right; however, I think it may have fallen from the top-five since then (early-2004), but it's still top-ten, and I'm not barking at you making it A-#1 on your list of Super Bowls. No offense, but you just have the same issue most other sports fans have, and that's putting bias aside. I feel like you need to do that when evaluating the history of the game(s).
I agree with u, it wasn't a game. It was a mistake filled game up till the 4th quarter. This game was much better I would also rank Superbowl 44 & 45 ahead of it.
KingLos 1 foot was down ,the thing that sucks is the refs didn't get a decision really ,I don't care if there is no evidence it's the deciding play of the super bowl ,make it confirmed or reversed
I was rooting for the Cards in this game. It's too bad they lost, but I still have to say this is possibly the best Super Bowl I've seen in my lifetime (42 years). What a great game. Even if the result wasn't what I would have wanted.
This hurt me and I'm a Falcons fan, because you won't see a team like Arizona in the Super Bowl year in & year out. Somebody like me, I like to see franchises win when their not expected to.
I will never forget this :)! This is a catch that will never be recreated. Because of how it happened and when and where it happened!!!! Over 3 other defenders, in the corner of the end zone, in the Super Bowl :)!!!!!!!
+Andre Igoudala Another overlooked thing was 47 for the Cards falling down on that huge gain from midfield before the touchdown. If he makes the tackle there, it may be a different story. But there are so many what ifs in football games that it really doesn't matter. One of the best super bowls I've ever seen (but 42 tops it).
in 1979 the Steelers won the Super Bowl, the Pirates won the World Seies and Pitt won the NCAA football championship....hence, the City of Champions....
+Nicholas Tallent bro I literally am going to my grave saying this. His toe didn't touch. Was off the ground when he gained possession. I respect the call and it stands. But I can't wait for technology in 10-20 years, they would go back and look at this play from multiple angles. Cardinals fans will be super salty.
+Rob Jon you mean the technolgy they already had and used? Yeah their called cameras there was multiple cqmera angles that show both down taht aren't in tje video look it up
+Nicholas Tallent hey don't tell me to look it up. I've watched it thousands of times. And trust me. Technology changes fast over the years. They will use the footage, identify solids and colors and what makes contact. Kinda like a real life madden instant replay if u wanna think of that. If u don't believe me. Did u really think that there was gonna be iPhones in the 90s? Think what you wanna think. I have respect for you and respect for the call (which will always stand) So please don't throw insults my way. It just makes you look bad, people forget that this comment section is for positive discussion. It's not a war zone 😀
This was a great game coming from a Ravens fan.. Larry Fitzgerald deserves a ring 💍 Santonio Holmes was the man on that drive and he capped it off with that game-winning touchdown catch !!
am i still the only one who thinks the right foot just barely missed the grass and that it was like rubbed up against his left cleat. I know i sound like a hater and im being ticky tack but imo i still to this day dont truly belive that secound foot touch iver never seen a clear image or video that shows something to tell me otherwise in every pic and video it looks to me that the right foot barely missed but because it was so close to the other cleat it looks like both of them hit the ground at the same time
www.azcentral.com/story/sports/nfl/cardinals/2016/02/01/arizona-cardinals-steelers-super-bowl-xliii-santonio-holmes-catch/79479602/ Games done, but nice to know they still had a chance if nor the Officials! Video above is not definitive! Check out the link? Nothings gonna change but it's there!
