@@robbie192 I saw the game, and in the beginning Pittsburgh was like a deer in headlights. But once they settled in, they outplayed Dallas with the exception of Neil's two interceptions which gave Dallas 14 free points. Pittsburgh had more first downs, more passing yards. and more rushing yards.
@@deadeye4520 The Cowboys were clearly the better team. Between 1991 and 1997 the Cowboys and the Steelers played each other four times, the Steelers lost all four times, each time by double digits. That onside kick in the 4th quarter was indicative of an inferior opponent scratching for every possible advantage they could muster. No way would a more talented team make a roll of the dice like that. You have to hand it to that Steelers team though, they played their hearts out and caught the Cowboys sleep walking through the second half, but ultimately the superior team prevailed.
The Steelers had this game and Neil O'Donnell just gift wrapped that Lombardi trophy to them. The Cowboy offense was stopped in the second half and Neil O'Donnell just threw two intercepted straight to Larry Brown.
Yeah that’s for sure. I’m from Louisiana and up until the saints won their first, and only superbowl… everybody, and I mean everybody except me was a huge Dallas or Niners fan lol. That’s all people could talk about back then, now they hate Dallas with a passion lmao 🤣
@@sodica81Yes he did! Steelers shut Smith down and owned the second half while Morris was runnin on the Cowboys left and right. O' Donnell gave it away.
This was the 1st ever Superbowl ive ever watched. Emmitt Smith is the 1st player ive ever watched played football that got me hooked vs the New York Giants. IM GETTING OLD LOLOLOL🤣🤣😂✊🏿 RIP My Mom & Brother ⚰
I'm only 40 years old soon to be 41, I became a Steelers fan in the early 90's and still is to this day, that was a lifetime commitment I made but anyway. This is the 1st Steelers SuperBowl memory for me, and when they lost this game I cried my eyes out no lie. Being a Steelers fan being born and raised in Chicago actually wasn't as bad as one would think, we are everywhere "wink" but I knew and always had faith that I'd live to see a Steelers SuperBowl victory and sho nuff I did... When we beat Seattle I remember I was working for the city of Chicago @ O'Hare Airport and I remember being at work that SuperBowl Sunday and when we won... I remember crying tears of joy I was so happy... So I can honestly say that we are (2-2) in the SuperBowl since I've been alive. Oh man I feel like crying now typing this 🤣🤣🤣 #PS4L
@@spukersonmerlosk1661 Keep handing the ball to that bruising running back and mix in a Play Action pass here and there because you to limit how much O'Donnell was throwing and turn him into a game manager
Steelers offense choked ... I was 11 years old and remember watching this superbowl, those dallas cowboys from the 90s man were they good and probably should have won atleast 2 more superbowls ...
@6:36 that wasn't a touchdown by Emmitt Smith. I remember watching that play so long ago. That was memorable along with those 2 easy ints by Larry Brown. Right time right place I could have intercepted Neil O'Donnell 🤣
This was a tough one as a Steeler fan. You had the Cowboys at the tail end of their dynasty with 4 future Hall of Famers on offense versus an overachieving Steeler team with no stars on offense at all. The Steeler defense was very good though (2nd in the NFL) with a great LB corps (Kevin Greene, Greg Lloyd, Levon Kirkland, Chad Brown/Jerry O) + Rod Woodson (recovering from ACL tear) and Carnell Lake in the secondary. This was a classic "strength on strength" matchup (Dallas Offense vs Steelers Defense), which meant the other side of the ball (Dallas Defense vs Steelers Offense) would likely determine the game --- and boy did it. Two crushing unforced error interceptions when they had the momentum and had worn down the Dallas team on both sides of the ball ended up deciding it.
@@davidpollard4051 True, but Levon Kirkland and others more than stepped up I think. If someone would have told me that Troy Aikman would have a pedestrian day and Emmitt Smith (during the best season of his career with 1773 rushing yards and 25 td's) would be held to 49 total yards on 25 carries, I would have said they were crazy. The Steelers shut down their offense the entire second half. It's just the interceptions + talent disparity between the Steelers O and Dallas D was a bit too much to overcome. But Dallas was the better team overall, there's no denying that. Better talent top to bottom and deserved to win. I can't be too salty because the Steelers would go on to win 2 more SB's in the next 13 years; while Dallas would *implode* and become a laughing stock in the NFC lol.
This game was the final chapter to the Dallas dynasty. Yes they won, but hardly in dominant fashion and a couple of great breaks. But you could clearly see they had come back to the rest of the NFL
Neil o'donnell 2 picks were the deciding factor. BUT....why didn't they keep pounding Morris???? They had nearly 5 minutes to go and Dallas was sucking wind. They power running game put them back in the game.... I love Cowher but DAMN...one time he needed to Marty ball it!!!!!
i do remember my uncle would always be talking shit about t the refs lol. Now I'm doing the same things even more so, but you are right this league today is softer and I will never forget this Superbowl it was my childhood dream team with Emmit Irving Troy Novacek Deion, but I do remember this year being nervous about them for the first time on offense
@@ryanr20091 Yeah, those were good teams back in the day. Today's corrupt NFL is about pushing narratives & they use the refs to help that out. The Patriots owner was the main person who got Goodell in & look what has done for the Patriots the last 20 years. Think back to all those breaks those teams got from the refs time after time. It's no coincidence. Oh & the Pat's owner allegedly got caught with underage girls at a massage parlor & notice how all that got swept under the rug. Last year was so obvious where the NFL is desperate to win over the 2nd biggest market with Los Angeles. It was a no-brainer they spent all that money for LA teams, you knew one of them was going to win the Super Bowl. Way too much corruption in the NFL these days of something I very much used to enjoy.
An underrated Super bowl. The Steelers nearly came back from 20-7, but Neil O'Donnell threw his 2nd interception right to Larry Brown again, which caused Emmit Smith to punch it in and seal the game. By the way, Emmitt Smith should have won MVP of this, not Larry Brown. Brown won this award for doing nothing
@@Davidjon1946 To much criticism his way. He played an okay game with two huge mistakes. The TD drive before half was huge or once again it probably turns into a run away.
@@Davidjon1946 Too bad Jim Kelly got hurt in his last game in the 96 WC pksypffs against the Jags. Might have drove the Bill's down the field for a clutch win.

Falta de comunicacion dentro O'Donnell y el receptor ancho ... Tambien O"Donnell anduvo juegando con la cola entre las patas los ultimos minutos, cuando mas cuenta ...
O’Donnell threw this game…..the Steelers had told him they were releasing him….at some point in the game when he’s walking off to the sideline even the coach asks if the the ball just sailed on him……
Neil said " I will make some money as a player but if I bet against myself & throw a couple of picks, I will be filthy rich" That is the ultimate F U to the game. It uses these men up,their bodies & minds(just like any job) so you might as well make as much money as you can. He took the money and ran.
Cowboys lost a Super Bowl very similar to this one with Craig Morton throwing two late interceptions against the Colts That game was far more winnable than this one was for Pittsburgh. A devastating loss.
This was a dog fight . I see why Big Ben went 15-1 his rookie year with the Steelers . Great defense . If Baltimore had Flacco 2001 to 2007 they would have made atleast 2 more SuperBowls
In 1995, the Steelers really stepped up because they scored 407 points after averaging just over 300 points in Bill Cowher's 1st 3 seasons as HC. They could've beaten the Cowboys if not for O'Donnell INT throws.
If the cowboys went ahead and gotten warren sapp, Derrick brooks instead of the bucs in 95. And later they drafted mike alstott to replace moose in 96? And instead of David lafleur, they get tony g? And later moss in 98 with Irvin entering the twilight? They would own the nfl like the New England patriots of the 2000s
I grew up hearing Odonell took a dive. NO WAY the Steelers we’re playing catch up the whole game. They couldn’t stop Dallas when it mattered. Good game but typical Steelers getting into a hole early.
Neil O Donnell gifted that Super Bowl with 2 INTs to Larry Brown. 28 + Years later, how Cowboys look now, CHOKE ARTISTS with 3 straight Playoff Losses, 2 to 49ers and Home loss to 9-8 Packers! Yuck!
@@marcusjohnson5420 It was more like a break in replay rather than before it. They had instant replay from 1986-91 then dropped it until it came back again in 1999.
That thumbnail has the coach looking like an 80’s Villain who people eventually come to understand why he’s doing what he’s doing, but you still have to take him out because he’s trying to kill people lmao 🤣
Dam now I see why my dad hated Neil O’Donnell so much this my first time really looking at this game I wasn’t born I was born a year later in 1997 and a steelers fan but they didn’t even play bad could of won that game just bad qb play smh
By looking at these highlights particularly those 2 picks and that run at the goalline saying smith was in and clearly he was not maybe I got watch the whole thing but those plays alone something fishy about this game I mean he just straight up threw the ball to him twice and no steeler in sight.
To think the next counted game they played after this they lost 22-6 to the Bears on a Monday night season opener, to lose by that much to one of the worse teams in football, that was the begining of their downfall, their 96 season was awkward to say the least!
The 2 INT's from O'Donnell, there's not a Steeler within 5yds of those passes. If you're gonna line your pockets Neil, at least make it look like you didn't take a dive for monetary gain. How do you not once but TWICE attempt those throws?? SURVEY SAYS...MONEY 💰 MONEY 💰 MONEY 💰!! I'm not a conspiracy theorist, but EVERYTHING points to Neil throwin' the game (no pun intended). WHY??? I'm glad you asked. Neil's career was over. Barry Switzer just took over the reigns from Johnson & needed to qualify that move. What better way than a SB win?? If it only happened once ok, mistakes happen. But O'Donnell did it TWICE, IDENTICALLY!! No way that was just a matter of a QB havin' a BAD DAY. YOU DID IT TWICE NEIL!!! NO WONDER YOU'RE NO LONGER WELCOME IN THIS CITY!! If you played the game straight, FINE, THE FANS OF PGH. WOULD'VE FORGIVEN YOU...but to take a bribe to lose the SB?!? Maybe you can be bestie's w/Pete Rose since you both clearly attempted to profit off of your own teams' woes P.O.S!!
@Jon Brahms yup, & I'm on a 1st name basis with Bigfoot & the Kraken as well. I'm not sayin' O'Donnell took a dive on purpose for $$ 💰. HOWEVER, I'M ABSOLUTELY suggesting it as a possibility. He knew his time in the 'burgh was over. Why not go out w/an extra check JIC?? I'm not a conspiracy theorist, but c'mon now. 2 PASSES, SAME PLAYS/AREA'S OF THE FIELD, THAT JUST HAPPENED TO LAND IN LARRY BROWN'S HANDS WITH A BIG BLACK & GOLD TERRIBLE TOWEL FOR A BOW ON IT, W/OUT A STEELERS WR IN SIGHT?!? Neil hadn't thrown passes that well all season, yet he did it in less than 30min of play in SB XXX...TWICE!?! If it looks, walks & quacks like a duck, IT'S A DUCK!! We had 'em on the ropes after the onside kick. Dallas was goin' DAHN!!! But it's as if O'Donnell said, "guess I gotta do it again." Is it any coincidence that he left Pgh. for good, THE VERY NEXT DAY?!? I'm serious. He BOUNCED w/the quickness (& possibly a hefty check). There was a story back in '95 that when he was packing up his clan to leave Pgh. for good, people were driving past his home, yelling things like, "You suck Neil!! Don't come back!!" Someone even dumped their garbage on his lawn. Sad, but if that's not a sign of loyalty to all things '412,' I dunno what is, ha.🤔🖤💛✌️
@@dodoubleg2356 I have analyzed it. Go to the video of the complete game because that's what my time stamps refer to. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-VaREL8LSN-s.html. Watch the Steelers play at 1:55:09. This play occurs after the 2nd interception and the Cowboys going up 27-17. This is a completion to Corey Holliday who replaced Ernie Mills who was knocked out of the game by Larry Brown earlier in the 4th quarter. Compare this play to the 2nd interception by Larry Brown (at 1:49:08). It is the exact same play call by Pittsburgh. Corey Holliday (the replacement) RAN THE WRONG ROUTE on the interception play but got it right on the next series (at 1:55:09). There was no fix and nobody paying off O'Donnell.
