I seen only one rust free Nova in my life, and it was parked by the road in my town with a "for sale" sign, I stopped and looked at it, (this was in 1995), it was a 1968, L6/3sp on the tree/bench/beige paint, no VT, 60k miles, they wanted 5k for it, so...out of my price range. My personal 68' Nova was not that bad on rust but all the common spots where still growing, mine was silver/blk VT, deluxe interior (same as SS) bucket seats, non a/c, it was originally ash gold with a black VT from factory, my family bought in 1981 and I started driving it in 1986, and sold it in 2004. I had a 350, Muncie 4 sp, 9" w 3.50 gears. It was fun, but I hated the rust. It was an orig. L6/powerglide. I had an 1986 Monte Carlo SS I was restoring, so I pulled the engine I built that was in the Nova and put it in my MCSS. I sold the Nova body w/4speed (minus engine) for $1k in 2004, to a friend.
Dang. That was kinda high priced back then. I’ve never owned a 68. Yet. Yeah. Rust sucks but I can live with some as long as I can drive and enjoy the car. Thanks for watching.
@@Shop209 Something good to know is that a 9" from a late 60's Cougar/Mustang will practically bolt in place. I did this in my 68 Nova, I used traction bars for the lower u bolt plate/shock mount, the only real difference is the u joint, and wheel bolt pattern. Brake lines bolt up, e-brake cable fit, flange to flange was less than an inch difference overall, and the spring perch mount hole on the housing needs to be enlarged just a little bit and it will drop right on the orig. mono leaf, just change the u-joint to fit the Nova driveshaft. It's like the FORD engineers and GM engineers where working on the same drafting table!
Cant wait to this build go done the track looks very similar to my 73 my tail pan and fire wall little better but everything else about the same I’m not 100% sure what to for inside rocker if you have any advice on that would be highly appreciated love the content keep it up👌🏼
I am glad to tee your reaction to demoing the interior with all that mouse poop in it. I see a lot of u tubers some of my favorites that attack that stuff breathing through their mouth and acting like it is normal. No precautions needed. Thanks for reassuring me that I’m not germaphobic. 😷🤮 Hey, guys look up hantavirus. I’m liking the Nova. It’ll make a good drag car.
I know what you mean about mouse poop 💩 I helped clean out my dad's garage and there was plenty of it I wore a mask most of the time I was really worried about getting sick from all that dust. But we got cleaned out.
Always happy to see a new video ! And really appreciate how you take the time to show us the clean out and point out the good, bad etc too. Hope you’re doing better John. Take care bud
Hi John, by chance you have any rocker moulding clips from any of your projects? I’m in search of them for my 68’ Any suggestions would be appreciated. Great channel always enjoy watching!
@@Shop209 Sweet if you did your subscriptions I would guess would probably double if you did the conversion? Can't wait to hear what you have to say about it.
Nope. Not the worst . There is a man here in NC that has several. The front and rear window channels rotten out . Windows sitting in the package tray frame and the dash frame . That’s a cream puff compared to these I see that he wants 3500 a pop.
@@Shop209 nope , as I stated , he’s just trying to make a buck off them . I asked what the deal was for them because I knew the answer already , he wants 3500 a piece for them . They are barely enough to take to scrap, lol.
Make a circle track street car out of it. cut out the dash and put in a aluminum panel for you gages and switches, pair of poly seats, roll bar, fuel cell, replace all the rubber body and suspension mounts with polyurethane, add a rear sway bar, upgrade the front sway bar, set of bassett D hole wheels with 305 50 15 tires. And last, a healthy sbc in front of a super t10. O yea, paint it black and call it the intimidator.
Well at least it's well on its way to being weight deleted. How many years back would you have gone and said this thing no way 😤? It amazes me now what is a builder, even for the track. I would go back and say 10 years ago. This car will not even been a parts car. I'm just amazed. But I realize that these cars are getting older like us humans are everyday. Look up couple more your videos and see what you have
I'm a fairly new subscriber to your channel and really enjoy your content.I i recently purchased the 1971 nova roller. It has been upgraded to 4 wheel disc brakes and has been upgraded to tubular A arms, the rest is pretty much a turd but I'm loving it. My question is, how do I know if my car was an a/c car? Their isn't alot that came with it. Thanks
Another challenging project haha love it! Quick question sir? I'm in Alberta Canada 🇨🇦 Needing a trustworthy supplier for my '74 Nova Hatchback project. Looking for mini tubs, rear half quarter, fenders, hood (induction) preferred, and definitely '72 style bumpers.... Any expert recommendations for my project? Thanks for the great content 👍🏼
