That's such interesting word choice! To my brain there is the trip out...and then the return trip. I think what really threw us off was the term we would have used "Round trip" was used just before to describe the distance. -J
You never know! There might be a Cruise Canada RV hiding out in the woods with a dog decal in the window. 😂 (This is funny if you've seen a couple specific previous videos....) -J
You ae my absolutely favorite travelers!! If there was anybody I would wish to meet on the road, it would be you two. I'm hitting the road full time this fall and hoping our paths cross.
Happy Birthday, Kalyn! 🎂 Too bad you couldn't enjoy those cinnamon rolls, but that treat that Joe prepared looked scrumptious as well! That was a close call with the drone and the rabbit! Baby sheep! 🐑 That was a really interesting boondocking spot! 😮 The waterfall was epic! Glad things are working out for you guys! We are enjoying watching the trip! 😀
Since you guys are traveling with Victoria and Craig we started following you too. Great videos and thanks. We do realize the need to stay safe on videos but one thing we would love to know is the time or dates tour guys are in Alaska to understand the best times to go. Stay safe up there you four 😂.
We entered Alaska on June 16th and then worked our way around clockwise (which seems to be the opposite direction of most) Going to Valdez, Seward, Homer, Now around the greater Anchorage area, then we'll be ending with Fairbanks and Denali before exiting in late August. I don't know if there is a "bad time" because your biggest hurdle will always be the weather which is unpredictable. ☁️☀️ -J
Thanks for the tips. Using your advice to set up my track up the Alcan highway. Hope the weather keeps in your favor. Great pics of the bears. They are cute until they knock your back door. But you have the dog for protection.
I'm more worried that Trinity will instigate a bear to be honest! 👀 She's afraid of stickers but I wouldn't put it past her to think she could take on a bear. -J
And thank you thank you so much for you generosity!! I forget if you are in the Anchorage area or not but we are having a meetup in August! more info on the community page! -J
The cinnamon bun place also makes fabulous home made bologna! It is one place my husband and I full on treat ourselves. 😁 What an awesome birthday pie! Happy belated birthday!
Happy Birthday! After going through tall grass or brush/bushes be sure to check yourselves and Trinity for ticks, once you get home. I imagine it's still early in the season there but it never hurts to be safe.
We do! Interestingly Alaska doesn't have deer ticks. We got worried for a bit because Trinity kept getting target shaped bites outside one of our spots in Alaska but it turns out it was an odd reaction to mosquito bites. (We were able to observe a mosquito bite her and then watched the spot). It was freaky to see over a dozen "bullseye" bites on her!!! She apparently doesn't like the blood suckers up here (although not once did she itch or chafe at them.) -J
@Floating Village nailed it. You make a junk area seem interesting. I am so glad you gave RU-vid another shot and returned to creating some of the most entertaining and “real” content. Your sincerity and honesty come through on each video post! Safe travels and belated Happy Birthday Kaylin🎂
The waterfall was spectacular! Great shots of Joseph in front of it. Really showed how big it is! I noticed in your video the graffiti on that trailer said NOLA 2 Alaska above “yard”. I’m from NOLA ( New Orleans LA). Wasn’t me, 😂. Glad everyone is feeling better! Those cinnamon rolls though!! Wow!
@@OpenRoading oh no! I hope both of you feel better soon. Ouch, with your back. Soft tissue hurt is the worst because it's complicated. NSAIDS, Ice and stretching along with rest but you never know what combo you need to help with it. Glad you are traveling with @wildrvlife.Try to take it easy. Prayers and good thoughts to Kalyn and you.
@@maureencarrigg3795 All is good! Sickness happens and I've had some back issues before so hopefully it wraps up over time! 😁 I just couldn't help but laugh when you were like "Stay healthy" whoops... messed that one up. lol -J
You bring such vividness and humor to your adventures, turning eerie experiences into engaging tales that keep us on the edge of our seats. And I am a floating village life from Vietnam.
Thank you! I just skimmed through one of your videos! Super interesting!! Are all of them "natural sound" videos or are there any with any sort of narration? -J
Guys, you just make the road trip so fun dropping all the facts for all the newbies thinking of making the same road trip, so we don't look like amateurs on the road. Thanks for Sharing the adventure to the falls it was it was absolutely incredible at one point thought you copied paste yourself in front of the falls, lol. Good job Joe making your main squeeze some dinner and may add baking her a cake that for sure bought you some points. Safe travels and watch your six...
Please be careful. Grizzly bears are so violent, one swing, and they can actually decapitate a full-grown man. Sometimes even bear spray doesn't stop a charge from a angry bear. Do not hesitate to spray if a bear gets anywhere close send it down wind toward them. Great views 👏 the falls where gorgeous. 😊
@@OpenRoading I've found your channel via 'WildRVLife'. It is nice to see the both of you traveling together, but yet staying 'independent'. Nice video. I'm sure there are many places along the Alaska Hwy that are kind of 'creepy'.
@@natei3518 Awesome! Thanks so much for watching! And I appreciate this comment since we've had many people who have wished we'd do more stuff together in our videos. Usually our time spent doing stuff as a group is off camera so we can be off the clock so to speak. -J
Hi guys , as a full-time nomad off-grid guy. I can give you some potentially life-saving advice when you're in the Alaskan bush . Carry a whistle & bear spray , don't let your pup too far off-leash, God forbid you should startle a Mama bear & cubs . But there are other unforseen dangers lurking , those trash piles and landfill are a host to animals , rodents , snakes etc... be safe out there 😅.
Happy Birthday! Nomadic Introvert is just ahead of you, I believe, on her trip to Alaska. Two of my favorite content creators sharing the same trip, loving it! Much ❤
Oh...I was hoping you would not go in that building! Be careful! There could be rats, or other rodents, spiders, crazy people... Glad you're safe! Trinity is a good furry family! Always listen to her. My dog barked in the middle of the night once which was out if character. I told him to be quiet but he persisted. Turned out there was an attempted car thief in the parking lot of my gated condo community!
Interesting. That is very interesting wording. I could see it if it hadn't already said "1.4 Km Round Trip." Why not just then say "Allow one hour" or "Allow 1 hour for 1.4KM round trip." I'm always intrigued on differences like this in how people translate even the same language! Thanks! -J
You are such a good husband; I would probably die of a heart attack if I ever saw my husband making me a dessert. All he could do is probably cut some fruit (might be a stretch) or open the box of a ready-made pie or cake. Beautiful waterfalls. Love watching bears... we live in northern MN in the middle of a pine forest and last week a bear walked along our picture window. The bear was about 3 feet from us, but we did have the walls and windows between us.
So cool with the bear! From my experience we husbands are OK in the kitchen once we take the time to learn. One thing Kalyn is so awesome about is laughing at the mess I make rather than trying to manage my chaotic workflow. 😂 She just embraces me and enjoys the delicious results. (And of course I clean up after myself). -J
Love your channel. Also so glad you guys are traveling with Craig and Victoria. We love watching them as well. The Birthday dessert looked awesome. Happy Belated Birthday.
I felt your pain missing the yummy cinnamon rolls. My big sensitivity is soy so I experience missing out too. I can see that you take it in stride for the most part BUT there are still times…🤤 Glad you had a great birthday 🥳
As others have said, 1 hour to return means get there and return. Must be a west coast thing because I caught it right away. Sounds ‘right’ to my ears lol. Hope y’all have some bear spray! I remember a fishing trip where the hike in was about 45 minutes and the guides made us sing LOUDLY the entire way. It was excruciating in so many ways… 😉 Thanks for sharing a your trip and keep doing what brings you joy.
I bet those guides sit down every now and then for coffee and are like "Do you believe they actually did that?!" 😁 (I kid I kid!) Bear spray is on the shopping list! We just keep forgetting to pick it up! I know! Shame shame! We'll try to remember when we go to town tomorrow! -J
A little sketchy stop, but cool things to see in the area. You should look into the Andersen Levelers, pull onto them until level and done. No more stacking or unstacking lever blocks. Happy Birthday!! Safe Travels
Ahh! Cool with the Andersen Levelers. Last time I saw some that style they weren't rated for the weight of my rig. I would like to find all black ones though....one of my 2024-2025 goals is to get rid of all the exterior red, yellow, and orange. 😂 -J
Happy Birthday Kalyn! WOW!! Y’all’s waterfall capture was amazing!! Jaw dropping gorgeous and you captured them in a way that gave perspective to their size.
Awesome! We are too. The cut in was a very accurate representation of me. I recommend not paying for a course for the 107 exam. There are a lot of free resources out there to help (including a full course by Attitude, I think, that should help you pass it. Also there are several free practice tests out there that will quickly help you get an idea as to what part you might be weak on. -J
Happy Birthday Kalyn! 🎂 I'm very curious as to what was scaring Trinity?!? Something had her attention! I really enjoyed the bears. Speaking of which, have you guys invested in any bear spray?!?!
There was probably a CruiseCanada RV back there with an unattended dog sticker. 😂 We keep forgetting to buy bear spray! We know we need it...we literally forget every time we go to town. 👀 -J
Thanks for the heads up on the Falls. We will add that to our timeline. We are about 5 days away from that in Hinton. And......no kidding on weather reports!!!
The drone footage and music choice, when trying to park at the sketchy dump site!😂😂😂! I ❤ your humor! PS: That was more like a cinnamon cake. That thing was huge!
That was super brave of Joseph to go into that structure. Beautiful a shots! Maybe because you’re there so early in season the growth hasn’t quite gotten full yet and that’s why they said you need bushwhacking. Also 1 hour return on hike maps means for whole loop, not just up the stairway. Although it shouldn’t take 1hr to do a 1.4Km loop!
We stopped at Testa River Lodge and tried their cinnamon buns. To us they were the best and we tried many places that claimed they had the best cinnamon buns. They all were good but the Testa River Lodge were the best to us. When you hike, please have Bear spray in your hand ready to go. Unless I missed it I did not see that you had some. Also, Trinity warned you that there was something not right. I really think she sensed bear or moose. Heed her warnings. Can’t wait for your next video adventure. God bless you and stay safe.❤️🐾🙏
We honestly keep forgetting to pick up bear spray!!! 🐻 Every time we stop we're like "remember bear spray!" then we forget. Sigh! We'll get it soon!!! And I'm glad we got the BEST buns on the whole trip! Lucky us!! -J
Happy Birthday Kaylen, y’all need to be careful when walking through those trails. Great video five days is a rather long time to be in a junkyard, how long to Alaska? Can’t wait until next week! Victoria sent me a message but I didn’t understand what it was, oh well my two favorite couples take care of each other.
Wow! Amazing. Thank you for showing this to me. I will never see it in person. I’ll bet that water was cold. I walked in a creek in the White Mountains in May. I’ll bet that trek is the stairs was major. It would have taken me an hour or more on the way back. lol
@@OpenRoadingthere is no doubt in my mind the accuracy of that statement. I had no concept of what a mountain stream could be like on an 80° day in May until then. It is just so deceiving. We are all enjoying the videos so much. And Trinity seems to be doing well outside. Boy I hope you weren’t around any fireworks, just thinking she has never heard them before. Our baby has been unable to go outside after dark for a couple of days.
Sony A7III and the zoom lens is (I think...this belongs to WildRVLife) a Sigma 150-600mm telephoto: I will say that I was VERY impressed with the stabilization of the lens. Kalyn and I haven't been too impressed with the stabilization of the A7III but I was shocked at how smooth we were able to shoot with that lens zoomed in 3/4 of the way. I expected most of the video to be unusable simply because I do not have a steady hand. 😂 -J
@@OpenRoading I am unsubscribed to everyone I used to follow You're the only ones I follow now for RV life I enjoy you guys you guys are funny you know how to make a good entertainment I enjoy it My wife even enjoys watching you thank you so much we really do appreciate it and will you appreciate you guys God bless and stay safe
I subscribe to both you and wild rv life. I don’t know if you or them are open to requests but I’d like to see more interactions with them and they show diff interactions with you on their channel. I was excited when both of you guys decided to take the journey to Alaska together because I thought I’d see more of you guys on both channels. Thanks
I so appreciate the feedback. You'll see us pop in and out of each others channels throughout the summer - but there are a few reasons you won't see a LOT of long segments with each of us in them. - Our goal of traveling together was to hang out as friends. We haven't had the opportunity to just hang out with really good friends a lot while we are on the road so the primary goal of traveling together was to enjoy our friendship. - We have 2 separate channels to maintain with unique content. If we collaborate hard on videos we are doubling our shooting work (Example, Craig and Victoria would have to make time to shoot large segments with us and us with them). This is on top of our normal workload. Not impossible, but not as practical. This also comes with technical hurdles (4 mics instead of 2 for good clean audio...which is what our mic receivers max out at) - While there is crossover but we also have different itineraries. Today Craig and Victoria went (redacted because I didn't ask permission to share) 😂 while we went to a wildlife center. A couple weeks ago Kalyn and I explored a glacier while WildRVLife jumped ahead to explore a different city. The beauty of this for RU-vid is that you'll see far more Alaska content between the two channels than if we all did the same things each week. I hope you're still excited to watch - and keep your eyes open because we of course will be including our friends in on videos and I'm sure we'll be making appearances in some of theirs. 🙂 -J
The waterfall was such a huge bonus for me! I'm a sucker for pretty waterfalls. 😂 Kalyn knows that so when she saw they were around there she planned an extra hike. ❤️ -J
Well, that waterfall is amazing, but I must have been missed the name if it. Strangely I noticed your gray hair for the first time. It reminds me of the wisdom gained as men like us get older. Fortunately most of my hair left early in life so that i lived long enough to subscribectoi this channel eventually. 🤔👍 Why isn't Kalyn's hair grey? 😅
You JUST noticed my gray hair?! You are my friend now. Kalyn doesn't have gray hair because she's so much younger than me. 😁 *Edit* I forgot to add - Smith River Falls! -J
So sad indeed! I'm sure it has wrecked a lot of people's plans. We're not planning on being up there till late August so there is still time for us but I feel bad for everyone who had that lined up as their June highlight. -J
Your vehicle is not yet dirty at all. It will see far worse as you go. The bears and moose are always cool. When we did the Alcan within a 15 minute drive, I saw bear, moose and a wolf. That was very cool.
@@OpenRoading Sounds like you took my advice and have accepted things will be filthy. That is Canada and Alaska as far as what the areas do to vehicles. Just enjoy the treasures you find while there. I just hope the wildfires are like normal this year and you have a great trip. Take care and I will keep watching.
Happy Birthday and you look lovely in lavender! Your content is addictive because of your genuineness and cute commentary. I would watch you guys do nothing but make peanut butter sandwiches and talk!
Could be! I'm not sure why it would n't have said "round trip" or "allow one hour for hike" or something like that. But they didn't ask me for help with wording. 😂 -J
