Last week we dealt with crazy high wind speeds. This week we’re bracing the bitter cold. Join us as we prepare for single degree temps in the hopes that our hoses and pipes don’t freeze! Add this into the Trinity fund for treato's and toys. We have rescued 8 dogs, and seeing how you couldn't leave her warmed my soul!! Some advice would be to be careful with that style of leash as dogs can pull those out of your hands really quickly if you're not ready. I'd also train her to stay at the door until you release her, then you dont have to worry about her bolting out when you open it.

Our very first pet after marriage wasn't allowed on the furniture or bed. She died suddenly two years later and we realized not having that snuggle time for those two years was a mistake. Since then (45 years) all our pets have been allowed to be most places they want. We now have three indoor rescue cats that rule the house and lounge anywhere they want :-)

Totally understandable. We spend tons of time with her on the floor and she has a super plush dog bed that she LOVES that we bring around the RV so she can continue to live in extreme comfort and still be around her best buds. -J

I rescued two young dogs years ago and had to have my buddy with cancer put to sleep last October after his long battle with cancer but a pittbull having cancer removed and living 14 years he lived a great life and actively looking at shelters to rescue another dog to help out. You two having a large dog in an RV is amazing and you two being proactive to check that she's ok I love about your channel.

Thanks so much and I am so sorry for your loss. We also lost a pet this past summer and Cody our Rabbit has cancer so I absolutely know the pain that comes with losing such a big part of your life and family. 💔 Even when they live a long life...it still hurts when they move on. -J

Our pups HAVE to have slow bowls but still eat that too fast, but those bowls do help.

Poor Trinity! I did the same ER run in the middle of the night. The ER doc came out laughing and told us when they were positioning my dog for the x-ray, she passed gas that was so bad they all left the room 😂

1) wear a wool hat and knee high wool socks even indoors. Much of your body heat is lost through your head. 2. Check out Nora Dunn’s video on traveling with merino wool clothing. Used by hikers and backpackers, you will be surprised at the difference it makes. 3. Outdoors cover your head (and maybe face)with more than a hoodie that the wind blows straight through. Get tightly woven wind breakers! (Not expensive.)

You did the right thing to take Trinity to the vet. If they don't act as they normally do then better to get it checked. Its so great that you guys took her with you instead of leaving her as others have done. She is a sweet girl. We just love they way she acts especially around the bunny. You guys are very caring souls. Thank you.

We honestly couldn't imagine our lives without her...although at the moment we can confirm she's not pregnant or fixed...because she's leaving the RV looking like a crime scene (if you know what I mean) 😂. But we love her! And we'll get her fixed as soon as we can once she's through this...erm....cycle. -J

It's so scary when the pups are sick and can't tell us what's wrong. You were very lucky with a 55.00 bill. We use a slow feed dish because Rusty would gulp down his food then throw it up. The slow feeder has worked well. I'm also glad you like the harness, a collar can be rough on their trachea. Rusty wears a collar for his tags and to be dressy, but we use the harness for walking & traveling.😂 We also feed him at least an hour before riding or playing so he doesn't get sick often now. Seeing Trinity follow your instructions, wanting to please you shows she has accepted & adopted you both! She's a beautiful girl! I'm so glad you're going to get her spayed, so many people don't. Stay warm out there, hopefully the wind doesn't rock you too much!

Thanks so much for the dog tips and advice! We were shocked with the bill. Over the phone we were quoted the minimum price of $100 - so I don't know why it was less. Maybe they felt bad for making us sit in the waiting room for 3ish hours. 🤷🏼 -J

If you can’t get a slow feeder bowl quickly, put a tennis ball in with the food. Trinity is probably smart enough to fish it out, but if not, it should slow her down. Bigger dogs should always eat slowly, because they are more prone to gastric torsion (don’t google that). Another option is a dog puzzle. The dogs have to figure out how to push a pull bits of the puzzle to get to the kibble. It’s great for mental stimulation and slow feeding. I’m glad she’s fine. I can’t wait for the next update.

If you haven't taught Trinity to "drop it", please do so. Where you guys are you never know when she will come across something you don't want Trinity eating or bringing into the RV. I have a rescue who I'm very thankful her foster mom taught her to drop it. Nothing like a stinky rotting hog hoof being brought into my house. I instinctively yelled drop it and my rescue dropped it in front of the door.

Trinity is smart, she will understand very quickly that furniture is off limits. I love my dogs, but they aren't allowed on furniture. They have comfy beds and they love their spots. Our dogs just want to be where we are....keep up the good work with her, just invest in a fixed leash, not those expandable ones you are currently using

She really is. We haven't had too much of an issue with the furniture but I did find it hilarious that day. She did it again about 20 minutes later but I wasn't filming. She was just in a mood apparently. 😂 I don't think we're going to go away from our extending leash...since we are often out in the middle of nowhere but aren't always comfortable for her to "roam" leash-less while we're on a walk yet, I like her to have the ability to be more than 6 feet from me while still being tethered. We've also found it really helpful to be able to easily bring the leash in and lock it within 2-3 feet when training her to stay by our side. I know that is a "controversial stance" (didn't think I would ever be saying that about a leash...) but it's what is working best for us. -J

Okay, so dogs (pets) are smarter than you realize. The bunny allowed on couches is training her it is okay for her as well. I would either allow both or none at all. I allow mine on there, but with my husky, I just make sure her paws and fur are clean first. She even makes me aware when it's time to clean her so she can climb up and lay down. 😊❤

It's amazing how fast a dog becomes your family . We took our dog to the vet because he just wasn't himself and almost $300 later he had depression because our youngest went away to college lol. He's 13 years old and is over his depression . Happy to hear Trinty is fine .

This girl...is perfection for us. She is so chill. On the warm days we've been going on 2-3 mile runs and she loves them! But when we're in the RV she's always chilling in her bed or under Kalyn's desk. Only once has she ever acted like she really needed to get out and run and that was after we had been stuck inside because of the wind for a couple of days. -J

Aww, I'm so glad Trinity is okay. I'm an experienced dog owner and I think I would have made the same choice you did. It is so hard to know what's really going on since they can't tell you. Glad you made it through the cold. It really is different in an RV.

To me what explains an RV in the cold so well is walking 15 feet and losing 7 degrees in temperature. 😂 Thanks so much for the kindness with regard to how we handled Trinity. I was really holding my breath today because I half expected to be laughed at for taking her 2 hours to a vet for...gas. It is funny in retrospect, but at the time I still think we made the right call. -J

Dogs get sick just like people do. Generally nothing to worry about. If they eat food too quickly get a slow feed bowl. I know how terrifying it can be the first time it happens but I tend to give it everything a full day to see it works itself out.

We are also FT RVers, gate guards, and in TX for the great chill last week! The coldest night we put our slides in (Class A w/4 slides) to keep the cold air drafts to a minimum. That was crazy cold!! Reflectix to the rescue as well. Safe travels and I'm glad to hear Trinity is OK. ~Lynette

A Suggestion: Get an electric blanket. Wrap your water tank on those cold temperatures. Set to a reasonable temperature and your tanks will be fine. I wrap my exposed tanks with them and ropes. I remove when not needed. I found 3 at a Salvation Army store and paid like $15 each. Stay warm.

Great tip! My tank is pretty buried in the chassis of my trailer. I can see the fresh tank though....due to a broken panel that is being held on by a ratchet strap until I can find a replacement at a junk yard someday. -J

@@OpenRoading for your pipes from freezing up the insulation tubing in home depot are great , but expensive, so what i used was the swimming pools noodles on the cold water lines ( note if you put the noodles on the hot side they could start a fire due to heat, ) so only on the cold side, for hot side , homedepot insulation tubing , before that install , wrap that black tape that is use when putting pipes underground wrap twice, its make for breaking if someone steps on it, but then install the insulation black tubing over it, for the tanbks i used a 2 part foam top , sides and bottom thick to insulate to tank from freezing up too. all tanks grey/black/fresh. hope tat help you in the future

It's good to wait an hour between feeding and exercise for your baby girl, but better exercise before feeding as exercise too soon after feeding can cause major issues in doggos. Thank you for taking good care of Trinity. ♥

You can keep the -47 and we'll stay here till ya'll start ordering some reasonable weather. 😂 Our first year RVing we were in Utah and hadn't looked at a weather report. We woke up to 8" of snow on the RV. It wasn't crazy cold and it was all gone by the end of the day but...it was a surprise for sure. -J

DOG TIP. Maybe look into soaking her dry food with water. Fill her bowl with food then add water till the food starts to float. This prevents "bloat" also i agree with waiting at least 1hour after she eats for any activity. (Longer the better) good luck guy's. Better safe than sorry.

We have a class A 38ft , we went to home depot and just bought installation, thin board, and velcro, it was $$$ cheaper than buying winter installation from a box office store, very foldable, and we just store it flat under the motorhome.

That's awesome. Yeah, our problem is storage due to the fact that we move often. We don't have room for that much insulation without getting rid of a bunch of other things. So we generally just try to avoid weather that would require it. 🙂 -J

@OpenRoading Dido we travel with 2 teenagers, so we folded it and put it under the couch cushions under our matteress... so far, we don't really feel a difference. But we are in the military, so we are used to the nomad lifestyle with shifty sleeping arrangements...lol.... I love the gate guarding videos.... We were in Houston for the freeze last month...

No exercise 1 hr. Before or after eating. Not a lot of water at once. Moisten dry food. Big long bodied dogs are prone to bloat. If their stomach flips, death is only hours away without surgery. Prevention is key.

Kudos for taking on the cold with little prep! We’re in Michigan, so we were super prepared for winter ahead of time: skirting, laid rugs down where there is no carpet, and replaced all window treatments with blackout/energy efficient cellular blinds and blackout/ energy efficient curtains to keep all the chill from the windows out.

Just watched your video. When you found Trinity and were wondering what to do with her. I commented to keep her and why. In the following episode fate was on Trinity's side. That dog will be loyal to it's end. You will be safe against people or animals who have less than good intentions. Good Choice.

So glad you gave Trinity a home and care about her. You cannot have to many dogs in your life, ever. The cold snap gave you some idea what you will see in Alaska, it is not uncommon to snow in June. You may want to get 12 volt heat pads on your tank and upgrade your batteries before the trip, if you can, so you have more amp hours.

Is it common for it to go to 9 degrees that late in the year? I’m fine with snow and 30s and even upper 20s at night…but 9? -J

If you stay at places with power and get a heat lamp for the water bay and heat pads on the tanks you will be fine. Snow and 20s in summer are not uncommon, not every year but not an uncommon happening. Most parks will require you to disconnect water at night if the weather shows it could drop into the 30s just to be careful. I know you say you do not have space for a space heater but there is always space behind the wall to set one with enough distance from things, the oil heaters do not have open heat wires if they bother you. May through August the lows are below freezing often. @@OpenRoading

Great job making it through the cold snap. We got 8" of snow and down to -7. Briefly froze up. Then nearly set my water hose on fire lol. Glad Trinity is ok! We had a very similar $100 donut (red velvet) moment. SMH live and learn! Wife recommends a stop by Balmorhea State Park when it warms up.

Lol I had placed my propane buddy heater in front of my wet bay with the door open . The hose had a heat tracing on it up to the door but the extra hose inside the bay froze solid. Anyway I had unhooked the hose and figured the hose could gently warm up in the glow of the heater... Was working until I went inside briefly and came back out to find the hose fell out and was resting on the face of the buddy heater.

I’ve been enjoying your channel and looking forward to your Alaska videos! We took our Motorhome to Alaska and spent 87 days away from our home in the Texas Hill Country in 2022. I do have a couple of suggestions that might help y’all. 1) We saw a number of travel trailers/5th wheels along the AlCan Highway that had been disabled due to suspension issues (on their trailers). That road is ROUGH and can really do some damage. My suggestion would be to give your rig’s suspension a really good examination. Check that the shock absorbers are in good condition and their mounts are tight. Also check for any cracked welds, springs, spring hangers or any other metal or bolts. Not only prior to embarking on the trip its self but also during. Make it part of your pre-trip checks. 2) Get some Canadian cash and carry it with you. We were never not able to use our credit cards but, some parts of Canada are pretty isolated and if there is any hiccup in their internet service you’ll be glad you had enough cash to fill your gas tank or pay for groceries, etc. We just stopped at an ATM after crossing the border and made a withdrawal from our account. I think we had about $350CA and had no trouble spending it by the time we exited Canada on our way home. 3)There is a very useful facebook group called RVing to Alaska - the Original that y’all should consider joining. We used it and found it to be a valuable resource for traveling with an RV to/thru Alaska and Canada. Good luck and if we can be any help just reach out…👍🏼

Word of advice, which I do not give very often. Do not feed Trinity anything containing cabage, unless you guys want to be sleeping outside. I would also avoid giving her chicken bones, or fish that has bones in it as they are potential chocking hazards. Oh and you can buy something called Dog Bones, from any local butcher that you can give her. Which is nothing more then old bone in country ribs that was on display in a meat cooler a bit too long to sale as country ribs.

You will want to boil bones to make sure there's no bacteria. You can use broth to can for yourself or to pour over her food. Our dogs think their living in high cotton. Learning so much and will tell husband about it

I’ve done a few winters in New England states because of work and it can just be a brutal thing. But one thing I found out, it seems to be worse if your traveling or a sudden weather event that drops the temps. I’ve tried all kinds of heat sources and for me what worked best is a couple of radiator style heaters and a diesel heater now available much cheaper than when I needed it. Hopefully you don’t have to suffer through a long term freezing spell. Oh, for underneath areas I found a 100w light bulb in the lower area in the water compartment worked good for me.

I'm 100% with you on the fast drop being the worst. We grew up in NY so we are used to winters...in sticks and bricks. If we have multi-days of below freezing temps we'd either move or come up with a better solution for sure for sure. Thanks so much for the light bulb tip! If it's getting cold enough consistently, I definitely like a diesel heater with some heater socks. Warp a tarp around the trailer and you'll be pretty good for heating the plumbing. You can have a diesel "jet" heater for a few hundred bucks easy.

If the road is mostly washboarding bumps, driving 40-50mph is actually smoother for you. You do work your shocks and struts rapidly but they travel less distance down and up.

Yeah..... I grew up on dirt. This road will kill your vehicle speeding up. Far beyond just washboards. It's hard to show but you can see in some of the clips how one side of the vehicle goes up while the other side goes down. The road is very, unevenly, rough, and goes from washboard to rocks pushing upward out of the road, to deeper and bigger than washboard potholes. The only people going at any speed above 10mph are driving company vehicles. -J

Probably one of our biggest questions was always "Why isn't Kalyn working the beet harvest with you??" or "what does Kalyn do all day!?" A friend that had sheep in Eastern Oregon did a study to see which froze faster in the sheep water containers, hot water or cold water. The hot water froze faster than the cold water did. Do with that what you will, I think it has something to do with oxygen in the warm water, but I'm not a scientist. So glad it wasn't something terrible for your dog. :) Get Trinity a slow eating food bowl, they have channels in them so she can't eat the food too fast. Great that you are half way to your Alaska goal.

A lot of people have brought this up. The thing I think is being missed is all those studies take hot and cold water and let them sit whereas I am actively warming the water from let's say 34 degrees back up to 38 degrees (estimations). If I let 34 degree water sit...it's going to freeze eventually if I do nothing. Active vs. Passive. These studies also start with super hot water vs cold. I can't find a comparison anywhere where the test subjects are cold and slightly less cold. -J

Freezing weather in an RV is no joke. We got caught in Texas a couple years back in our RV with two nights in a row at 4°. Because we were without power and limited fuel to run generator (all fuel ran out in town) we were cold and some pipes froze. Nothing broke. First time I almost thought the 3 of us (we travel with a beagle) we’re going to have to find a shelter. We were not able to leave for 8 days due to ice and roads. We were in Kerrville TX at the time. You did a great job surviving! So glad Trinity’s health scare worked out. Looking forward to your future travels.

It's more than a washboard unfortunately. I grew up on dirt roads so this was my thought as well. Unfortunately this road is also full of deep ruts and rocks pushing upward...so you get up to 30mph and then slam into something...(speaking from experience). I've observed the only people driving fast on these roads are driving company trucks. -J

I know how you feel. We have a full service dog for our daughter and a two year old being trained, if something happened to either one them girls I would go nuts, but here’s a hint Trinity goes like that again. Kind of treat it like a little baby rubber belly and pat her back

Larger dogs are prone to gastric torsion. I know you all exercise her by running so as a X veterinary technician I would suggest that you re-search gastric torsion, do not feed her a large meal before she does heavy exercise, such as running. It may save you a very long trip to the vet, and it would definitely save Trinity’s life. Love your channel, you make my heart happy every time I watch!❤

So glad Trinity is ok. We have 2 German Shepherds we Travel with. Use the hour rule hour before eating hour after eating. No strenuous exercise. Also I noticed your use of hand signals with commands good job. We use 2 hands up to our chest, for sit, to mimic people or children who may panic at the approach of a large dog. Mainly children seem to bring both hands up in a panic. Our Dogs will react by calmly sitting and diffusing the situation . Hope this helps. 9°F brrr. Glad nothing froze. Thanks for sharing. 🥺🐕💛🤔😊💙😮‼️🐕 Trinity might be a piggy when eating. Who knows her past? We have lost a beautiful dog (Bassett hound) to bloat! They have slow feeder dishes that can really help. Also: look up rolling kibble in a old bath or beach towel. I do this a couple times a week. It helps with boredom and keeps their mind busy! Give a little 💦 at a time after running etc. you guys have been so awesome giving her a wonderful home! So excited to see your 1/2 way on your goal for Alaska!!😊😊😊 Hang in there with the crazy weather 🌡️🌡️☁️🤪💨🌬️🐰🐶❤🐰🐶❤

Trinity was found by the right people. This time it wasn't anything serious but it could have been. Unfortunately, few people would have done all that for a stay dog. We would have and we actually have. Our emergency Vet bill was $400 for after hours servive. So God was watching out for all of you. I have a feeling that if anything were to happens to either of you out there. Trinity would get involved to protect you. We've had afew Ranch dogs like her. They're very loyal to their family.

Oh my gosh…I did not plan to be this cold in Texas! It was crazy. We are thankful that they supply our propane. We were running through it so fast. Our lines did freeze. We ended up putting our tiny heater out under the belly to help the forced air. That helped. I mean it's better than Mackinaw for sure, but I want warmth. Loved the video. Keep it going. in the cold if your burning diesel #2 and the temperture drops below 0degs, there are 2 things to do, either, use a product lucus oil anti-gel good to minus 40, or a product called HOT SHOT which is second in line its good till minus 32 degs, . when i was in alaska there they use #1 diesel in the mix of #2 diesel to stop the 2 diesel from gelling up, #1 diesel gelles up at near 65 below zero. if you tank is say, 50 gals of diesel and there 30 gals in the tank, put 25% of diesel #1 in the mix or fill up the tank with diesel#!. the truck will smoke a little more, but better then not going anywhere, ?

We generally don't mind heating the RV when it's dipping into the 40's and even 30's. When we get into the teens that's when it gets "fun." We've thought about the plastic but haven't tried it out. It could save us a little bit of propane... -J

When not towing, you can lower your tire pressure to like 50 psi in front and 45 psi in back and should be a better ride. But kills about 2 mpg. Anyway good vid U2. God bless, Bob and Deb

Spent 4 nights in a row at -18’ Only problem was. The doors were frozen shut // or then open Keep ALL. your lines off the ground electric and water lines. Or they will melt in to the ice. Till summer. We also use heat tape on our dump valves.

Double pane windows in an RV are a misnomer. Single pane is a bit under .5 R value. Double pane bring that up to 1. Twice nothing is still nothing. The reflective panels were a good idea. Really enjoying your videos and have subscribed. Keep up the great work!

My first year in my rv after the fire in Montana (I lost everything in the fire) i tried to stay in Montana it got down to -36 and everything froze in the trailer ice in the kitchen sink, and the toilet. My two cats stayed real close, like under the covers with me. That is cold.

Aww, poor Trinity. I had to start using a slow feeder bowl with my current dog because wolfing down kibble, which expands in the belly, after exercise or a lot of water can cause a gastric volvulus, which IS a surgical emergency. Ask me how I know..Glad it was just gas. A couple of good long tooot-tooots and she’s all better! 🙃

She kept getting better as we sat in the waiting room. She was probably sneaking the gas out 😂 The vet told me we were probably smart to bring her in because of her symptoms though, especially since we don't know her crazy well yet (This was the first time we had seen her not happy and healthy). We were so glad it was just gas...even if it was a 4 hour trip to diagnose. -J

@@OpenRoading yeah, I was concerned when she wouldn’t eat or drink. That’s always a huge red flag with animals. Also, the breathing was scary. I travel with my dog, which is HARD because of inconsistent veterinary care across the nation. We’ve had a few late night/middle of the night emergency visits and I never regretted taking her in. It hurts the wallet, but it’s worth it to keep them happy and healthy. Hope you get sunshine, warm temps, and NO wind! 👍

I carry 3 extra propane tanks, and i normally have them full, because have weather like we had a couple of weeks ago herein Texas I am doing what you are doing too. In that cold of weather we go through a tank in a Dayton day and a half.

Wow! We've never gone through a tank in less than 3 days I think. I've been tempted to buy a blue rhino just to have for emergency since they can be easily exchanged even after hours. But.....space. 😂😂 -J

We carry the tank on the back of the truck,i do have a flat bed, so i do have more room.

I just love you two and your style. You're so real and fun. As someone who could be your mom, I'm SO proud of you for how you're managing money and working so hard for your trip. I think it will be full of many blessings! Have you thought about doing a meet-up at a pet-friendly place in Alaska and let the "Trinity Tribe" meet her and us "Open Roadies" meet you guys? We're going to be IN Alaska in Aug & early Sept and with my luck, you'll be there way earlier in the summer. I've never been to a meet-up but follow a number of other fulltime RVers and their meet-ups seem like such fun. Anyway, keep up the good work and I'll see you next week!

Thanks so much for this sweet encouragement. You have no idea how much I appreciate comments like this. This is our third "crack" at youtube and part of the reason we flamed out the second time was that it felt like we were just putting hours into content and tossing it into a trash can where no one saw it. 😂 To have people so kind like you this time around has provided so much fuel and motivation for us. Thank you. As to a meet up...first, we're so humbled that people have even asked although we both know that the real reason for the meetup is to love on Trinity...and we're here for it! 🤗 As we plan our trip we are working at carving out the right place and time for a meetup. Stay tuned because if we do one we will be sure to make the channel aware as far in advance as we can since Alaska is a big state and all...although I can't imagine anyone shifting their plans for a meetup with us. -J

In answer to your answer to me, LOL, don't be surprised that people do want to meet you guys (even without Trinity). People want to meet you, but in doing so, they also want to meet your community of followers. Think of yourselves as being hosts to others making new friends- that takes the focus off of you guys and puts it on your being of service to others. I think you both are service oriented so maybe providing that service to your followers would make the concept easier. What's your timetable for Alaska? We're going to be in the state of AK from mid-Aug thru Labor Day. Hope we cross paths.

@@paulab984 I like how you worded that. Hanging out over common interests as well. So it's all weather dependent but at the moment we're looking at crossing into Canada early to mid May and into Alaska early to mid June. All this could get pushed back if it's a particularly long push of cold into spring which of course isn't uncommon. Then we'll be working out way back in September crossing back into the US as late as October. But... all in pencil and all very much not sketched out at the moment. -J

I'm in southern MS and we had temps down to 14 which in my home state of 34 years I'm used to so know what to do I hated it. In ohio they have freezer lines for water lines and basements so freezing of lines are less of an issue unless you have continued low temps. So I took the low temps seriously and lucked out with no frozen pipes when a lot of my neighbors did. Diesel gels in low temps. I'm a truck driver and if you don't add additives when it's that cold you will gel and the pump will stop. Northern states add things to gas and diesel to prevent this but when it's cold if a region isn't used to cold they won't add additives and it can gel up.

Yeah. The company is in charge of their generator so I couldn't do anything about it, although he said he put an additive in it but...It only died when it hit 9....so I think whatever additive he used didn't do it's job. We grew up in Central NY and then moved to Florida. Seeing exposed plumbing in yards and on the sides of houses took a little bit for me to get used to 😂 -J

Apparently i should have been using an additive in my truck all along not for freezing temps but for the injectors. I've been using one and I think I'm already feeling a difference. Should have gone with that before I cut my dang fuel lines. 😂 -J

I lived in my camper year round in Massachusetts and winter was just all in preparation. I did this: 1.) Roll of black construction plastic and box of stainless washers and would attach to bottom of the camper using the molding bolts on the bottom and would have folded several times and use rocks and logs etc. to hold to the ground. 2.) Duck Brand window insulation film on ALL windows and Vent windows. Worked great and clear as glass. ( clean windows first ) attach the tape to the wall not the molding. Comes off easy with a hair dryer when done. 3.) That silver insulation for the AC. 4.) I used my furnace 100% to keep everything heated. 5.) I would pack snow around the plastic nice and hard and keep a bunch of snow on top of the camper as well ( free insulation ). 6.) I used my fresh water tank 100% as water was shut off at the campground. They had a shower building that I could get water. I filled a 55 gallon plastic drum ( sanitized ) and would pump into the camper using a camper pump I plugged into the trailer plug of my truck. An area heater will not do anything to keep the pipes and tanks warm ( like your fireplace ) When temps were well below zero I had a coleman propane catalytic camping heater in case the tanks froze up and I needed to dump.

You need to look into window tint. They make a solar tint that blocks the heat in the summer and holds in the heat when it cold ou5. Easy to apply. Applied it to our camper windows and it made a big difference in keeping tzhe summer heat out and retaining the heat in cold weather. Box stores used to sell it in rolls. Cut to fit your windows. We also used heated water hoses along with tank heaters.

Drive between thirty five and forty miles an hour when you're towing your trailer or when you're just driving your truck on the washboard it will smooth out your ride Many years driving off road in the Marine corps and civilian life drive safe if you have to Put it in 4 wheel drive for the dirt road. Washboard sections Safer that way

I'm with you! I grew up on dirt. However.....this road is so much more than washboard. We haven't done a good job showing it but it has big rocks sticking up, sections of washboard that are very uneven and sections where the holes are just too wide or deep to gloss over with speed. I know...because I tried it once. It was "glide glide glide SLAM into part of the road that thrusts up instead of down. This road is just bad. The only people driving fast on it are the people in company vehicles. -J

Ohhhb. Too bad. Forgive/ignore my previous comment. I drive 30-40 for 1.5 miles on my access dirt road, which receives the watershed from the mountains to the west. Washboard, mini arroyos, rocks, little hills and valleys, you name it. A lot of fun😁🧓

11:30 Hot water freezes faster than cold water. Add salt to keep your water from freezing, just boil it if you don’t like soft water.

Actively warming water prevents water from freezing. The effect you are talking about is under much debate but all the studies compare very hot water to cold water. I was taking water that was probably around 36 degrees and maybe warming it up to 38 degrees. If you actively warm something it won’t freeze. If you leave a tank it will freeze eventually. If you warm up the water every hour or two…it won’t freeze. Poor man’s version of putting a heating blanket on it. -J
