SUPER CRISPY Tofu Katsu Fingers Recipe you'll FALL IN LOVE WITH!

LEARN HOW TO MAKE A SUPER CRISPY TOFU KATSU RECIPE THAT WILL MAKE YOU FORGET THE TONKATSU!
LAY HO LAY HO! This is hands down one of my favourite recipes ever. It's crispy, visually appetizing, and you get to dip it in something! Join me in this episode and learn how to make this delicious take on the classic Japanese tonkatsu recipe, the amazing tofu katsu fingers. Let's begin
Ingredients:
2 tbsp ketchup
splash toasted sesame oil
1 tbsp soy sauce
1/2 cup all purpose flour
1/2 cup water
salt to taste
3/4 cups panko
350g extra firm tofu
1 cup avocado oil
Directions:
1. Make the quick katsu sauce by mixing together the ketchup, toasted sesame oil, and soy sauce
2. Mix together the flour, water, and a pinch of salt in a bowl
3. Pour the panko into a separate bowl and season with some salt
4. Carefully slice the extra firm tofu into sticks (fingers)
5. Roll the tofu in the flour mixture. Use a fork to transfer the tofu onto the panko and roll the tofu to coat it
6. Set the tofu aside and repeat with the rest of the tofu sticks
7. Heat up a frying pan to medium heat. Add in the avocado oil and let is heat up for a few minutes. Stick a bamboo chopstick in the oil to see if ti's ready, there will be small bubbles when it is
8. Carefully fry the tofu in small batches for about 45 seconds on each side
9. Set the tofu onto a paper towel to rest and absorb the excess oil
10. Serve the tofu katsu fingers with some shredded cabbage, fresh tomatoes, and that delicious katsu sauce

Exactly! That's why I love this channel. I'm culinarily challenged. Wil's recipes are so doable and call for ingredients most of us have at home or are easily shopped. I really like his calm demeanor and gentle sense of humor too. The videos are also very aesthetic, as Wil is an accomplished photographer. Wil is just one of those people who you want to see go from valor to valor.

What I love about this recipe (technique?) is that its so versatile! Bread and fry smaller tofu cubes for salads and stir fry’s or larger ones for an appetizer or main dish! Its the perfect gateway for someone who wants to try tofu but doesn’t know where to start!

I did this today- modified the recipe slightly by adding some hot sauce and.chilli powder to the batter. And.I made the batter with corn starch and rice flour to avoid refined wheat flour. The results simply blew us away. The taste is so much like fish fingers, but much more yummy. Thank you so much for this delicious recipe and idea

Thank you Will, for a delicious recipe ❤ I made these tonight for my husband and I. I made half in oven. Then I fried a few of them in avocado oil. Both were equally crispy. But I preferred the ones in the oven -425F 15 mins. I have an ANOVA precision. Baking it in the oven was easier , faster and cleaner as well. I just arranged majority amount of them on parchment and voila ,done !…with easy clean up.

I was skeptical at first, But wow It's like eating chicken McNuggets, the tofu it's not rubbery but crispy. It's a great way to give tofu to your childrens they will love it!

Just wanted to say I've tried these a couple of times now and they're so good!!! I've never before succeeded in making actually crispy tofu, it always came out lumpy, but your method really works! The sauce was really easy to make too but really tasty and I'm glad I discovered this! :') I'll definitely make these some day for my non-vegan mom to impress her.

For the baked method, if you want it even crispier, in a dry pan, constantly moving, toast the panko to give it the color and crunch of the fried method. You'll still have to worry about water from the tofu coming out in the baking process, but hopefully you've had enough time to dry them fully. Also, I find that Worcestershire sauce and ketchup works better than soy. Tastes more like the bulldog brand in my opinion. Edit: also Cooking with Lau taught me to cut the tofu to the desired shape, then boil it in very lightly salted water to get the 'stale' water out and season the tofu at the same time. Then dry while you prepare the dredge and whatnot.

Your recipes have never failed me, Wil. :) My husband and I like this for when we want to indulge in fast food but we gotta save our money, haha After coating the fingers in panko, I laid them on a sheet pan lined with parchment paper, put it in the freezer, then bagged it the next morning to save for a quick dinner. I deep fried them straight from frozen a few weeks later and they turned out beautifully! I also put black garlic oil in the katsu sauce because we're obsessed with that stuff, haha

Thank you so so much for this recipe. Tonkatsu is one of my favorite dishes, but I like doing "meatless Mondays", so this recipe is really spot on. I made this today for the first time and both my son and I really enjoyed it. For the sauce I mixed Ketchup, soy sauce, rice vinegar and Worcestershire sauace.

It was amazing. I didn’t have extra firm tofu in the fridge, used medium firm and it still came out Delish.

"Chicken katsu, also known as panko chicken, or tori katsu is a Japanese dish of fried chicken made with panko bread crumbs which is also popular in Australia, Hawaii, London, California, and other areas of the world." Why bother commenting if you don't know what you're talking about?

I’m making these for tea, I’m going to bake them though as we are cutting down massively on using oil. Fingers crossed they are as yummy as yours, I think I’m safe with the sauce 😂 thanks Will ☺️

Fantastic recipe as usual! Just a thought though: when you're making a sauce or a dip I like to keep all my little screw top jars so when you put all the ingredients in, you can screw the lid of and give it a good shake. This really mixes it well, especially sauces or dips that contain miso which is hard to blend with other ingredients. Just a thought.

I used a garlic pepper mix that I had; but, the sauce has all the flavor needed..love toasted seseme oil.

This looks yummy. Reminds me of childhood fish sticks my mom made for lunch. She always served with raw baby carrots, sliced apples, and dipping sauces of choice. My 15 year old will love this. Also want to say recieved my new Cookbook in the mail. OMG it is beautiful. Looking forward to more good food. 🥰

JUST MADE THIS!!! I used tomato paste instead of ketchup and regular breadcrumbs because panko is super expensive in Sweden. It turned out great though,, super crispy and the sauce is delicious - the sticks alone are quite flavourless but since they are a mere transport for crunchiness and the sauce, it's better to have them relatively neutral in taste, I think. The whole family loved it, so mgoi for this recipe!!
