Cheap riding mowers don`t last long because of the thin mower decks, but the motors last a long time, so converting them to fun riding machines is a great idea!
I think they make the deck cheap on purpose to sell more mowers. I would like a thick stainless steel deck, but good luck on that. Thanks for watching and yes they are great fun.
@@chud327 I just now replaced a 2003 Kabota diesel lawn tractor with 1800 hours on it, and I only did it because I wanted a zero turn, but that thing is built like a tank all over including the mower deck. Of course I did pay $6300 for it 20 years ago.
Everyone is different and enjoy doing different things. Every kid should get a childhood that they want, be it video games, or stuff like in the video.
@@eliforbes4842 Lmao, sure. You base that on what you think is fun. Times are different, technology has improved immensely compared to what you had during your childhood. What you think is better isn't a fact, it's just an opinion that is less valuable than today's children's.
Awesome man! Me and my boy are building a Murray and I think this is gonna be our pulley swap method. Thanks, great to see you and your guys spinning wrenches and having fun.
We love wrenching and fun! I have already swapped the back on my Poulan, but I am thinking of flopping the front pulley too now. Thanks for watching and good luck.
Definitely do this to your dads mower without permission. Me as my brothers did it to my dad when we were kids. Put the deck back on with the pins but didn’t connect anything. Dad went to move it out from the shed and put the back wheel through the sheet metal wall
Just got a Murray with a shot deck free on Facebook. I am probably going to use this method to speed it up a bit just need to figure out the pulley sizes to figure out belt size needed. Thanks for the video!
Purchased this to replace a guide pulley ru-vid.comUgkxO9seYZjlnuP5UvMkb7osQW3WxPVeSnPk on our John Deere x304 snowblower. As I stated in the title, it is just about perfect. The stock pulley has a spacer at the bottom. I used four washers to emulate said spacer, and it works perfectly now. Great product, and great price especially if compared to typical JD prices.
great video sir, I bought a large pully and Installed it but i had to move the motor back 1inch on my old Cad Cadet Hydro 1320 runs well for an old beast. I would love to get a set of the rear wheels you have. I'm in Australia and parts are just so expansive for old lawn tractors. soon i will try sprocket and chain and gear it down a bit via a Jackshaft or just Install a CB250 engine as i only use the Cad Cadet to check the mail-box 1.5 km drive-way it a long walk from the house.
I have an older Craftsman that's doing no good but it runs and drives. Looks like something to do eh? Dude is having one hell of a time with it! Good job!
This will be very helpful because I wanted to do a pulley swap on my 2006 Troy bilt super bronco. I took the mower deck off and I am planning on lifting it and making it dually. Thanks for these amazing videos!
That video of pulley flipped over smart idea, Now how do I fix broken axle shaft inside transmission right at spline, crappy it broke there I'm pulling 6' x 4' trl on back with wood etc, using class 2- hitch on the original heavy plate, I had regular 38" cut rider by craftsman 12 hp
My uncle used to do this for us back in the 80s with some old lawn mowers we would also put accelerator pedal on and bypass the governor sometimes he would open up the transmission and weld the limited-slip to posi rear.
question does the size of the matter because I have a bolt that I wanna use it's just a bit longer sticks out like a extra inch and I run a 3 inch pully on the transmission
Oh i know thats right, backwoods hik is giving me all his mower stuff for free, i started a video on picking it up and it all went wrong, so i look fwd to the video that goes quick and easy. Thanks for keeping the videos coming.
My ih cub does 16...it's a hydrostat....I swore when I put things back together when I painted it, I'd done something wrong with the linkage...but nope. It could of been the replacement valves I had to get for it. No idea though. Manual says it should do 8.
@@chud327 ha ha i caught it! i saw lil Junior flip that gov. coming in the driveway lol nothing but fun, nothing but fun i also live in the deep South, im in SC and watching this brings back so many memories of my childhood riding go karts, 4 wheelers, 3 wheelers, mopeds etc.but this is a new kind of fun, and something you can do with everybody, (family friends), man i remember me and a buddy of mine we used work at this campground on the beach and we use to take the John deere gators in our leisure time to scour the camp ground for misc. you know (tv's, grills, radios, etc etc.) and sometimes they would tell us to check the storage yard, man that storage was massive! there was a road about 3/4 mile long a straight road at that... perfect dirt drag! and we would take them gators and cut loose with them, i pass him up then he'd pass me up, we had dirt and dust kicking up and flying everywhere we race them gators most of that summer of '99 chud until one day our supervisor pulled up on us.. some employees ratted us out of jealousy, and they banned us from the storage yd.after that so whenever i watch videos like this it just takes me back to those days, and not to mention hopefully one day soon in the future, as im thinking bout taking the deck off of my 2007 Troy built super bronco w/19.5 hp Kohler "courage" and go this route with her it's easier and cheaper plus i keep me about 1 ft. of chord in my pocket like i used to back in the day riding in them gators lol.
I timed it in the next video of doing the same thing to a troy bilt and it took about 7 minutes including flimming it too. I believe it was a 5/16 inch bolt and bit. thanks for watching.
Watch my latest pulley swap on my Troy #6. It would fall off every time I pushed the clutch, but I made a sweet belt keeper and it stay on great now. Thanks for watching.
Hopefully the mower makers have already experimented for us and picked the ideal blade speed, but I would love to know how it turns out if you try it. thanks for watching.
Do you knoe what is causing the troybuilt to have the biuncing type sound come from the engine im asking because i have the same kind with the same problem
I had to put a 12.5 carb on and it is a 17.5 engine, I think that is causing it. I found a 16.5 horse carb that I am going to try on it, we will see if that fixes it. I doubt that helps you, but stay tuned in case the next carb doesn't work. thanks for watching.
If you are talking about where the rear tires go on the axle, then no keys. The FNR's have flat spots on the axle and wheel that get rid of the keys. Thanks for watching.
Just wondering if it is bad will it break it do you think or is it ok. Also I took the blade deck off and it has quite a big belt so I am using the belt of it then cutting and drilling holes to sow together. Also I watched a second time cause forgot what size bolt to use and couldn’t find it does anyone know what size bolt?
@chud327 How did you get 17mph out if the poulan? Did you flip the pulley? How'd Mower cut qirh the pulley fipped.? It be nice to keep the speed and have it cut as is.
I usually do pulley swaps to get speed, just recently I hit 44mph on a different poulan. Once I pulley swap them, I don't mow with them any more. You could do it as long as the grass is not too thick and the swap is not too extreme. Good luck and thanks for watching.
You should try to take the small pully of and replace it with one the same size as the other pully then you can go fast and have your PTO still be the same speed.
I tried doing this with my lt1000, the deck belt side has a washer welded to it, and the hole is smaller inside on that side. I don't know if I should try and drill it out, but it looks pretty weird.
Do you think i could do this pulley flip method on a craftsman? I have an 03 LT2000 and am just getting into this stuff so trying to find an easy way to do things 😅
I drilled through it and there is a bolt that runs through the crankshaft. I have done it again on my Troy Bilt and the video will be out soon. Thanks for watching.
Wish you shown how you pulled the pully off i cant get mine off my roper ride on with a briggs and straton 8.5hp motor an i locked my 3 speed gearbox on it from mowing grrr got to pull it apart to see if I can fix it
@@chud327 no worries i wasnt being rude to you i just want to find some tricks cos the clutch isn't working thats why i locked up my gearbox. I cleaned the gearbox pully cos it was rusty but that didn't help then the next day as i was mowing long grass the box locked up on me. But was a great video cheers for posting it up mate.
Well hell yeah. Great father sons project here. Glad RU-vid brought it to my attention. For that I shall subscribe. And jeez better watch out for the little fearless youngest there. Quick little on the go governor speed boost both intuitively smart and dangerous as frig. And you filmed it...awesome.
So I tried this but my pulley didn’t have the same size hole on the other side and it won’t slip over the shaft did you have to drill yours out or do I need to try and find one with a big hole on the other side
Been tinkering with mowers. I have a Murray 10 42 it's not hydro. Also a Husqvarna with a 25 Kohler command. The Murray has a neat low profile but no frame. I guess I will know soon enough if it can handle the larger engine and a pulley swap . Lol
can you do that to a 15 HP JOHN DEER LAWN TRACTOR do you know if its the same? Thanks other videos said they won't run if you do gov- or piston fall out or you have to do more work on it. never did it.
when ever i got to take my pulley of it spins the motor and its just a never ending loop. I tried to get a wrench and stop it of the the top but just doesnt work so please help. Thanks
Had the same problem. There’s two small wholes in the pulley, I just tied some wire through the wholes an onto the axle, then I was able to undo the bolt.
