This is one of the most emotional songs I've ever had to try and get through. ‪@JamesBlunt‬ Man, you made a hell of a song here buddy. I was trying to push back tears the whole time. It is one of those songs that really puts "family" into perspective. I loved it! If you liked my reaction please comment below and Like and Subscribe.

As a former officer in the British military (same as his dad) James donated all the proceeds from this amazing song to the UK charity 'Help For Heroes' who do so much great work for ex-servicemen & women. God bless him. 🙋‍♂

This man with a "high voice" was in charge of 30,000 NATO troops in Kosovo. When the US General told him to overrun the airport, which was guarded by 300 Russian troops, he refused and likely prevented WWIII. Don't be too quick to judge. Both James and his Father come from a long military tradition. Both are hardcore British stiff-upper-lip military types.

His father’s name is Charles, and after releasing this song, a distant cousin turned out to be a match for a donor, who coincidentally is also named Charles Blount. That’s his father in the video, and the only person in the studio with a dry eye.

I loved your reaction, it mirrored mine. What’s interesting about this song is that you’re listening along…and his story starts to unfold…… And all of us watching begin to crumble. It’s not even a choice. It’s a visceral reaction. I think that this is important song. I agree with what you said, everybody should hear this. Put away your petty crap and re-learn what is important in life. It’s your people. Now go love them.❤

This song and the story behind it made a lot of people sign up to the donor register around the world and because of it his father was saved as were many other people around the world. All the proceeds from this song were donated to the Help the Heroes charity of great Britain which helps take care of our veterans and their families as both Colonol Charles Blunt and Captain James Blunt were both in the British army. The line i am not your son your not my father was something they would say to each other before deployments. Please watch Iam Tongis audition for American Idol singing this as its a truly incredible rendition of this song. Absolutley beautiful. ❤ At the ending of the filming of this video there was not a dry eye in the room apart from Colonol Charles Blunt who turned to everyone and said Why are you all crying? Am not dead yet " to which everyone started to laugh.

James and his Dad Charles are both former British Army officers who both saw active service. (James a Captain, Charles a Colonel) Charles was dying from stage 4 kidney failure at the time of this filming. Thankfully a kidney donor was eventually found for Charles. James sang this as a tribute to his Dad. For a soldier to show such raw emotion and vulnerability is very brave. Charles, was very stoic. (British stiff upper lip, don't show emotion). So for him to put his hand on James' arm was very touching. This song was recorded in one take. All proceeds from this song were donated to veterans charities. So much respect for James.

I lost my Dad in '84 when I was only 23. I didn't get to say goodbye. All these years later my love for him is as full and strong as it ever was...I just adored him. This song hits hard and I can't listen to it without it ending in tears. Btw....he was a proud Navy man and served during WWII and was present at Pearl Harbor when it was attacked.

Charles Blount had donated a kidney in the past, now diagnosed with stage 4 kidney failure this was a tribute to him. After the video release a distant cousin, also Charles Blount came forward to donate. After the single-take taping of this video, the only dry eyes in the room were Mr. Blount's. He asked "why is everyone crying? I'm still here!"

Watching this music video a few days ago I immediately texted my Dad and asked him if the next time he is in town we can drive down to where he grew up and he can drive me around telling stories of what he experienced in different places in the area (down around where he grew up). We don't get that chance forever. He was happy to be asked to do so. I'm excited to learn.

Having someone you love die is absolutely heartbreaking but equally heartbreaking is watching someone you love die. My mom died from Alzheimer’s and watching her forget all of us and slowly die killed us all, at least emotionally. Your loved one becomes a shell of themself and they disappear while we’re here watching and agonizing. Death is almost a relief. Then once they do die you mourn them all over again. I only watched my mom with Alzheimer’s but this happens with many other illnesses. Please don’t think I’m trying to say one illness is worse than another, I’m just using my situation as a reference. Love to all the people who are suffering with terminal illness or any illness and the loved ones who take care of them and love them.❤

This song reminds you not only of loss, but of our own human mortality. When you are young, life seems like it will go on for longer than it really does. All of a sudden you are your parents age and you realize suddenly that your parents have become more fragile to the point to where you feel like the parent to your parents. Your reaction and your own personal story shows you were not afraid to show your own vulnerability. Kudo's to you.

I first heard this song on October 18, 2019, which would have been my mom's 77th birthday but she died at age 43. I cried over this song then and it still makes me cry now, over 4 years later. It's a tough song to listen to, but I'm so glad James Blunt wrote this. He's a former military man, but he's also a man who's not afraid to show his emotions to the people he loves, and I love him for that.

I lost my dad in December of 2018 and then Mom in October of 2021. It's hard to explain how I felt afterwards, other than to say than I felt like an orphan. I do also suffer from depression and anxiety, and I am not scared to say that the loss of my mother sent me into a deep, deep dark hole that it has taken me a LONG time to crawl out of, so I VERY much appreciate you acknowledging that in your reaction to this song. For context, I was my mom's sole caregiver for the 14 years after my dad's death up until hers, so losing her was definitely catastrophic to me, and made it extremely difficult for me to find a new identity beyond caregiver after her death, and also beyond daughter, because I no longer have a living parent. 😢

What you said at 4:30 is so true. I have had 4 major losses in my life since 2020. My 30 year old daughter passed in Jan, 2020 while in prison, my favorite aunt passed away July '21, my grandma Jan. '22 & my mom July '22. The only one expected was my aunt. She was 58 and had terminal COPD. She was in hospice. The way you describe your dad is EXACTLY how I feel about my dad. He has been so lonely, sad, and depressed this past year since mom died. She had an accident at home and fell. She started bleeding out in my dad's arms while waiting on the ambulance. She was 70. My heart is numb all the time. This song is just amazing!

I felt and feel your reaction to the depth of my soul. My parents are my best friends. There has never been a time in my life I felt I couldn't talk to my Dad. Right now my parents are playing a very important role in my life. July 11, 2022 I was in a rollover car accident and suffered a Traumatic Brain Injury. It was not initially seen as the Doctors originally labed it as a concussion, but as the weeks turned to months I struggled more and more. Eventually I was referred to a neurologist who did tests and imaging and found that sections of my brain are dead. I have very little short term memory. I forgot so much and I have relied heavily on my parents to help me with appointments and remembering the doctors instructions. I have sticky notes all over my condo. I have to use check sheets some weeks to even remember to eat and take my medications. If I lost my parents right now I'm not sure I would survive.

Thank you for a very honest and heartfelt reaction. You stopped the video a couple of seconds early. James father was just about to put his hand on James’ arm as a sign of “good his son. And mr. Charles is not a man who shows his emotions easily from what I understand. Both he and James was in the military, and I have read that they used to say “I’m not your son, you’re not my father” and vice versa when one of them were about to go on deployment somewhere. So that phrase is very personal to the two of them.

I've watched at least 80+ reaction videos to this particular song & I think it's because it's just filled with SO MANY emotions that every single person watching relates to at some point in the video if not the entire video & I always try to see when & what is being said that they are just fully showing their emotions. The only thing that bugs me, & many viewers too, is the excessive pausing of the video. I think once is ok or twice if they're very short pauses & that they are not being used just so the person can collect themselves or pull back on the emotions they're feeling & that's because reaction videos are just that, REACTION videos. We WANT to see your true 100% (or at LEAST 90-95%) AUTHENTIC REACTION TO THE WHOLE video. Talking can wait until it's over. I just find that, & in regards to this video especially, that what we're seeing is authenticity that comes WITH emotions, ALL emotions you're feeling, nothing watered down. I can also tell you that I have only seen maybe 5 of these videos (for this song) where no tears were shed....only 5. This song never let's up. It only builds & builds with each word having a greater impact on the person(s) watching as the song goes on. These are obviously just my opinions on the importance of making a very impactful reaction video that shows the authenticity of the person(s) emotions WHILE they are watching it, & afterall THAT REALLY IS the point of these types of videos. TY for the video!❤ (FYI: IF you feel the need to reply &/or send me a message PLEASE make peace with the fact that I do not read or even see them. I just do not care to do the whole back & forth debate thing since I prefer to just watch more videos than spending time reading & responding to past comments that I've left).✌💕

Yea! Tongi is brilliant but.......... He sing a song written by and sung by James Blunt. Only ever can there be one Monsters song because it originally came from the heart and sole of one that had both the words and thoughts put together. James is not a 'copy' of another. His is what he is, within himself. He comes from three generations of families that have been to war. That war-zone deployment included himself. He is not a pretender.

James' dad was only saved a few years ago because his song was released and a very distant relative responded and donated a kidney. JAMES THOUGHT HE WAS GOING TO LOSE HIS FATHER, BUT IAM ACTUALLY lost his. Watch the actual finale American Idol performance of Iam with James. You would know by watching them together that this was not just a performance, but a shared passionate grieving as James hugged and kissed Iam at the conclusion as a father would try to comfort a child. You couldn't fake that. Iam WAS NOT A PRETENDER. By choosing it as his audition song, this young man has touched the world and given comfort to others who are grieving. He developed a worldwide fan base who watched him for months and saw him as a truly gifted communicator. He is himself, choosing his own songs, walking out in his flip flops and shorts--a humble young HS student just loving to sing and trying to make his father proud. This is what his dad wanted him to do.

I’m 63 and now lost both of my parents now. It happens to all of us unfortunately . The pain last forever you just get use to it . The void is ever present . But after a while you Remember only the good and happy things and the scar helps blunt the agony . ❤️‍🩹❤️‍🩹❤️‍🩹
