I think you under rated Mystic ark very badly. You left out they used Pokemon elements like catching monsters in a cube turning them into statues and fighting them agasint each other plus the game according to massive fan belief says its a Prequel and NOT A sequel to The 7th saga because Ragnor is King Lemme before he was born into the Original game as a king. He has to learn 8 lessions before being reborn. A part 2 showed his teenage years on PS1. Mystic ark has the catch em angle 1 year before Pokemon went west and a far better storyline as Pokemon sucks

Live A Live is absolutely freakin' mind-blowing and an absolute MUST play for any hardcore RPG fan! The graphics might not be anything too impressing, but the music, the stories, and the innovative and varied gameplay of each story make up for it several times over. Once you've played it you'll be very, very angry that it was never released here. Thank God for reproductions! I've played only a little of Gunman's Proof. It's a huge Zelda: A Link to the Past knock-off, even stealing many of it's graphics, but it seems to be a really, really good one. Treasure of the Rudras looks incredible, and that Mantras system sounds super cool and fun. I gotta get that one. Alcahest appeals to me as well. Here's the deal with Mystic Ark: It is made by the same people who made The 7th Saga, and it shares similarities, but it is not actually related to it in any way. However, despite that fact, it was originally going to be released here under the title "The 7th Saga II".
@ShamanNoodles
@ShamanNoodles 6 лет назад
Is Mystic Ark as insanely hard as 7th saga? i love the style of art and stuff but i dont wanna die every battle -.-
@kekeke8988
@kekeke8988 4 года назад
@JMF It is related, it has recurring characters. Lux, the robot from 7th Saga, at the very least. @A E The Japanese version of 7th Saga (Elnard) isn't even that hard. Enix America did that to it.
@JMFSpike
@JMFSpike 4 года назад
@@kekeke8988 Ah, I stand corrected. Sounds sort of similar to the Soul Blazer series then. None of those games were connected, but each shared the same sort of theme, had very similar gameplay, and had a dog named Turbo (who some idiot decided to drastically redesign in the 3rd game for some reason.)
@kekeke8988
@kekeke8988 4 года назад
@@JMFSpike Looking deeper into it, the "runes" in Elnard (JP version of 7th Saga) are actually called "arks", not "runes". So Mystic Ark is very obviously related to it. They both revolve around gathering "arks", have similar looking battles and the crystal ball thingy, as well as a recurring character. Never played far into it so not sure what other things in common there might be.

Hey mr Snesdrunk - Live A Live is currently one of the best selling games on the Switch right now. I thought it was really interesting that a game that was overlooked among its contemporaries can be re-released and be so well regarded today - do you think it might be worth revisiting games like this in this context? I'd think they'd make for some interesting discussions! What other games do you think might have been overlooked that people today would enjoy if they liked Live A Live?

i loved treasure of rudras, graphically the game was amazing for snes and the music is great, i also like how the enemies and characters are animated during the fight, its amazing what some consoles can do towards the end of their generation, I liked the story and seems like a lengthy game i still havnt beat it. I wouldnt call it a final fantasy clone cuz well it was also made by squaresoft anyway lol. I wont lie there is just something about the squaresoft rpgs around this time they were soo good and other rpgs came close but just didnt have that feeling squaresoft always did, snes - ps1 square rpgs were the best!

@@kekeke8988 I think it was. The structure was alot more unique , the villain was one of square's most developed villains even more so than kefka , the gameplay whilst not the best resembles the trails series with a unique twist where you have to manipulate the grid to your advantage as opposed to "ultima , ultima , doublecast." The thing that ffvi excels in is the characters which are the best in any jrpg however in terms of gameplay , villain , plot twists/ story it falls short. Dont get me wrong it's not that ffvi doesn't have any plot twists it has a substantial one (you know what I'm talking about) but live a live in my opinion had an even better one

Min Lungelow The combat in Ys 4 is terrible, it's why I quit after not long playing it. "Run at everything like a madman and pray that you got lucky and hit the angle perfectly" is not a feature, it's a really broken combat mechanic.

It's not nearly as broken as you seem to think it is, there's a strategy to ramming things and it's not hard to figure out how it works after a few minutes of playing. Ys 5 is just incredibly boring, because you can block any attack and enemies usually die in only a few hits, with a handful of weak bosses thrown in that barely liven things up.

I always hated combat system in ys. You're telling me you'd rather bumb into enemies indiscriminately then have a sword and shield and actually fight enemy?

Gorram. As opposed to the first list, I honestly wasn't familiar with a single one of these titles! How did so many good SNES games escape NA releases?? The NA library is pretty good as it stands, but it's a shame the market didn't have a place for these niche RPGs.

+Skidonti The Europe library was so pitiful. None of the big ones like FFIII, Earthbound, Mario RPG and Chrono Trigger. Amazing thing was we got stuff like lagoon and equinox. But then again, back then if it was not action rpg it would have had trouble selling well.

I don't remember in which order but Mystic Ark and Brain lord they are sequels one is a sequel to the 7th Saga, 7th Saga was the first in the series but I could never remember which one was the the second one and which one is the third one it either goes (7th Saga, Mystic Ark, Brain Lord) OR (7th Saga, Brain Lord, Mystic Ark) it's one of the two I just can't remember.

It's just 7th Saga with Mystic Ark as a sequel. I'm reasonably sure that a character in Brain Lord has the same name as a main character in 7th Saga is just a coincidence. A quick check at Hardcore Gaming 101 also says this

***** well I OWN Brain Lord and I just looked at the back of the box and it says it's the third game within the series, so yeah it's a sequel. Me and my brother bought it back in the day when it came out here in Canada and us we don't like selling our games so yeah we still own it.

So do you have the PAL version or something? I don't see anything on this NTSC box scan that says it's in a series: ocremix.org/files/images/games/snes/6/brain-lord-snes-cover-back-33627.jpg There's also no mention of a series in the manual: gamesdbase.com/Media/SYSTEM/Nintendo_SNES//Manual/formated/Brain_Lord_-_1994_-_Enix_Corporation.pdf

that's not the box that I have, normally we take from the US for our video games but here in Canada for Brain Lord we took from Europe, the box is not the same, close to it but the description on the back is a bit more than this, but seeing the back of this one that you just gave me makes me think maybe Europe got it wrong, I don't know. I just know MINE says it is the third one in the series.

"If you like 7th Saga you'll like Mystic Ark"? So, it's horrifically, sadistically difficult to the point of being actually unbalanced as well, is it?
@SNESdrunk

Maybe not horrifically, but it's a bit sadistic yes

Good video, but one thing: Japanese isn't pronounced like German. "ei" is pronounced more like a long A sound (as in "bake"), not a long I (like in "stein").

Thank for watching, that gets corrected in later videos.

SNES drunk I appreciate that you understand the difference between a jrpg and an action RPG. I tell people that Final Fantasy is a action RPG and not a jrpg anymore and you would think I kicked a puppy. Subbed to your channel brother.
