something we do is put a little dab of PL construction adhesive on the seat of the hanger where it supports the joist to prevent squeaking

I have to say your content gets better and better Robin. That is a lot more work indeed to sink the steel into the floor, but the P5 sits on it perfecly thanks to all the prep work. I work with joist hangers a lot, and still place my nails with a pneumatic Bostitch nailer. I am waiting for Hikoki's cordless positive placement nailer like kids wait for xmas. There aren't many battery powered joist hanger nailer which can handle 63 mm long 4 mm thick round head nails where I'm working. The end of year 2021 and still fix those hangers with a hose around my legs...

I wondewr how many builders would go to that extent to ensure that the tops of the hangers were recessed?

I think many would but as quite often it's a case of lack of technical skills, the job doesn't pay enough or they simply don't care.... Robin's work is simply fantastic.

Very neat work Robin well done and tend to agree about chipboard floor sticking up or a hump in the floor over hangers (at times) ... Safety glasses a must have for your own protection you only have two eyes...I know someone who lost an eye using the wrong hammer on a formwork contract it was a brick layers hammer a slither of metal came off and right into the Eye ....So it can happen maybe even more so with those guns and nails. Be a shame to put chipboard on that floor and cover up all your good work...Remember my brother arrived in Jersey channel Island first job was design a kidney shaped swimming pool starter shutter /formwork or lay it out from the sketch... The boss arrived and said be a shame to put concreate in that formwork looks like artwork it it so neat and tidy....Good work Robin.

What about the gap between the hanger and the side of the joist. Because if the joist design there is a gap between the hanger and the joist with no fixings. Do these manufactures recommend infiltration pieces so you can fix the sides of the hangers?

A good tip Robin but I think you must appreciate most foreman would not appreciate the chippies wasting time and money doing it. When nailing the sides of the hanger do you put a piece of ply to fill the gap between the hanger and center timber block?

I saw the positive placement paslode on your channel a while back. I have two guns that do that but both air. Looked around to see if available and couldn't find it. Contacted paslode direct. They have no intention of bringing them to Oz no need. We use tons of hangers and straps and supposedly now building code says you can't coil nail them any more. Dewalt did make one but stopped. Not in Oz. Hikoki now make one but we probably won't see it. All very strange.

Always use resilience bars to the underside of floor joists and these give a 25mm space between underside of joist and plasterboard which gets over this issue. Regards Tim

Nice to see a job well done. The amount of looks I've received for doing the very same thing from some, but I carry on as I have always done regardless. I've sometimes received drawings that state the NON use of guns because of the half moon head as opposed to the full round. Has anyone else had such a request ?
@timmargereson332
@timmargereson332 2 года назад
I've had exactly the same. I had to buy the Paslode 360 as it uses full head as opposed to clipped nails for exactly that reason. I was also told to use genuine nails as opposed to generic as they could guarantee specs with genuine only. Regards Tim

Both the Paslode PPN35 & latest PPNXi Positive Placement Nailers use "Full Head" 3.4x35mm Twist/Helical Screw/PPN Electro-Galvanised Nails (Pasload 141189) for installing joist hangers, straps, framing anchors/ties etc. Also in the USA Metabo HPT (aka UK Hikoki) has recently released a 36V Cordless/Gasless Metal Connector Nailer (Metabo HPT NR3665DA). I don't know when the Hikoki version will be available in the UK.

Really surprised the trouble you have gone to rebating beam for a nice flat finish for flooring un yet the underside of the hanger is left to sit proud of the joist this we find creates a bigger problem for the plasterboard and skimming. Really enjoy your videos but dare I say somethings are completely over engineered son is a structural engineer and couldn’t agree more not that that is a bad thing . If the fit and finish are correct firing more and larger nails achieves very little other than cost and time this is by no means a criticism just a observation in over 38 yrs in the industry.
