Don't you think its rude to ask for help, use the goodwill and time of others, and then waste it because "it was a prank"? Does time and goodwill not mean anything at all to you? I'd think it's bad to cry wolf for something so pointless too. And was everyone was smiling though? They certainly weren't smiling from getting it open due to their effort. I think they were smiling because they got a chance to talk and gather for a purpose, but surely there are more meaningful things out there that do the same thing but better. It's not a harmful prank, just a useless one that gives nobody any value other than wastes their time. That's probably why the guy stopped it.
