hey y'all! When I show my vanity I always get a lot of questions about my NuFace device. The short answer is that I used it for a long time, I do think it works, but I fell off the wagon and haven't used it since August. It's from CurrentBody: rstyle.me/+TZ505sf_x8FgH2oNf_... This actually came at the perfect time because I'm deep cleaning my room today! For the new year, I've also been "decluttering" my RU-vid subscription box so it feels like more of a treat to visit. I noticed this year I spent a lot of time coping by watching excessive makeup hauls and such, so I'm finally mentally deep cleaning my changing these habits. All this to say, your channel of course survived this declutter. It is always such a treat when one of your videos shows up, knowing it will be so mindful and well spoken. Thanks for all your work!

I watched this after watching a Michelle Wang declutter, and it's fascinating to see the way different beauty creators view their makeup collections, what is the right amount of things for them, why they get rid of certain things but not others, etc. Also, my heart was in my throat when you put that Gucci palette to the side. I thought for a minute it was going and I could not believe it, haha. I feel like it needs a little plate easel or something for display!

I watched Michelle’s “declutter” and it sure didn’t seem like one. I like “stuff” but too much (IMO) makes me queasy. That said, my sister couldn’t believe how many lipsticks I own. 😉

I love your declutters because I love hearing you talk through things. So I'd really enjoy you going through the box and telling what is going and why, even briefly. I found it really hard to keep track of what was going and staying and I found at the end I was assuming reasons for things to have gone, which I find stressful! So, I totally get why this way worked for you, keeping you in the zone, but for me I've actually left the video more scattered than I entered it somehow (that could partly be due to working a lot in the Christmas run up and general stress though, why does family drama happen right before Christmas?!)

I started one in 2020 (under a different user name) I made it about 5 months in, and couldn’t keep up after the pandemic was in full force. I highly recommend it - it was super fun while it lasted and forced me to do some deep soul searching work I wouldn’t have normally just to write the scripts.

I have hoarding issues and for a long time makeup was the place where I had the least discipline. I think it's because it's small and easy to squirrel away, I have a tendency to avoid declutters, especially of packaging. I recently did a vicious declutter of my desk and threw away all my packaging. I HAVE SO MUCH MORE SPACE!!! I can't believe I didn't do it sooner. I saved those single shadow cardboard containers especially and I just threw away about 50 of them and it was so liberating. I ordered the rephr makeup organizer and will be getting it for Christmas, so I'm looking forward to encorporating that into my next big declutter/clean up.

This angle is very nice but nothing can hold a candle to the sensation of looking down on a flat plane of beautiful makeup while HLP speaks softly between the clickety clacketies. kinda unrelated to the video but i would like to say a personal thank you for talking about static nails!! i've never found a nail polish that didn't chip on me within three days (including some gel polishes) and was about to give up until i tried static. i can get a full week without chips, which i thought was impossible!! that being said i would love to see a video on your collection of nail polishes (possibly with swatches) and which ones are your favorites!!

these are the new years vibes i'm craving, baby! (shimmies wildly) i'm finally reconnecting with my inner child and have been decluttering my art supplies. i can't believe i have markers from 10 years ago that still work beautifully! an authentic japanese calligraphy set, untouched. almost EVERY color imaginable in crayon form. once my Pat McGrath palettes get too icky yucky to put on my eyes they're gonna be amazing paints. i assume you don't mind if i use your poema photography as references with due accrediting. you're a stunning muse, as always! i hope to have some pieces for sale sometime in the beginning of next year, and use that money for updated supplies like skin tones that aren't AWRNJ, watercolors, gel pens and higher quality paper. i'd like to frame them myself but there will be frameless options so you could do whatever with them-- laminate them, use them as bookmarks maybe. i work small so they'd travel easily & it would be an honor if you found one you like! a new illustrator hath borneth. (; and i've actually decluttered like maybe 40% of my makeup recently too. i have two bags completely full of things i'd like to sell after one last reckoning. i'm having a Scarlet Witch moment and saying "no more powder cheeks" while applying red lipstick to said cheeks & as a wash on the lips with some gloss on top. your battlestation setup ended up so cute but i would have knocked those lipsticks over at least a dozen times if there's no suction cup lmao

Love this! I have a very small makeup collection at this point in my life (I like to keep my makeup separated into 1 every day bag and then 1 additional bag of extras, out of season products, fun glitters, etc). The extra bag lets me hold onto things I don’t necessarily use often so I don’t just declutter for the sake of it and end up rebuying, but this video gave me permission to let go of the “perfectly good” things that I felt like I had to use. Like 3 different tinted lip balms I never reach for. Or the liquid highlighter I was going to eventually use up and recycle, but never actually use. And now I feel like I can see the actual things I might want to add to my collection, like 3-4 single eyeshadows and 1 lip color, but I don’t need anymore glitter toppers; even though I love looking at them and they are beautiful, I hardly ever wear them. And really, I would rather spend money on rounding out my wardrobe and trying to adopt a cat anyway! :)

I don’t have a big makeup collection but I’ve found of the many mini declutter and project pans I’ve attempted the declutter that makes the most difference is lips. I feel your choice in lip products really broadens your horizons or hones you into the look you’re feeling this moment/season/year/forever. I’ve had several blushes that felt like fails because I didn’t like how they looked on me or I fell out of love with and once I cut down my lip collection it’s like a whole new world. LOVED LOVED LOVED seeing the declutter. It reminded me to 🏃‍♀️ through some products I’ve not been leaning into.

This video and your explanation was really really helpful. I don't do RU-vid, but I have amassed an absolutely gigantic collection of makeup, and it just doesn't make me happy anymore. When I tried to declutter, I was only getting rid of products I don't like or expired products, and I was still left with way too much. Then I realized I was going to have to get rid of makeup that I like/love and only keep the stuff I REALLY love, if I want to get my collection down to a size I'm comfortable with. I think you recently mentioned a small palette that had a neutral taupe, a cool-toned dark brown and a jet black in it. Can you recommend something of that kind? I would like a practical palette of neutrals, but they all look so wishy washy, like soft dove greys, mid-toned browns that would just wash across the eye, etc.

I love these videos. A lot of the people I follow on this platform are defluttering their collections, and it feeds my soul. As a Libra, I am not only materialistic but I am also a perfectionist. So seeing people clean and declutter is so calming to me. Seeing you declutter your lipsticks was especially exciting for me personally, because I have done the same thing in the past few days. I currently have braces & I have realized that I am just not comfortable showcasing my mouth/teeth until I have straight teeth. And that’s okay. So I got rid of literally everything in my lip category except for balms. I will need to plan ahead, because the day my braces come off I want to put a GORGEOUS red lipstick on and showcase my new smile! 🥰

I am a bit sad on the Finding Ferdinand lipsticks but it won't be loved as mixh. I totally get your point on comparison to the Gucci lipsticks as well as observing your preference for glosses from 2020 till now.

making those FF lipsticks and using them for a year was a great experience! What I realized is that since I made them, I've been lucky enough to acquire some pretty fancy lipsticks in very similar colors and luxurious formulas that serve the same purposes. That's why they went!

Omg I want to be as sensible as your are! You're ruthless and able to really hone in on what you want and what works for you. I don't know if that's as a result of the no buy year you did or just you in general. I have serious problems parting with stuff. I'm 100% the same with eyeshadow palettes where I use them on and off, sometimes based on season or vibe. The difference is I have an epic crap ton of palettes which is way too many. Sometimes I think I should go on an eyeshadow palette no buy (or low buy?) but worried that I'll just transfer that to another product.

I’m currently working through this process myself but I’m finding it super hard as my no buy doesn’t even start until the end of the month so,for now, I’m drowning in cosmetics. I don’t want to get rid to too much more than I already have so far, just find a home for it all so that I can spend my no buy year getting to know it all. Then I will hopefully know better what I can declutter. You said something about sanitizing and passing on? Can you tell me more about that? I have dozens of lipsticks for example that I’ve literally only worn once and would love to give to family and friends but didn’t know how to sanitize them first. Beautiful declutter and reorganization Miss HLP! ♥♥♥ Thank you for the post work decompress. The breathe easy, the take away, for me anyway ~~ when a major or minor declutter happens, the reorganizing is truly the icing, truly the breath of fresh air, the sigh of relief, the re-embracing of products we truly adore, putting them to the forefront with ease, without the weight of feeling we must use up the products we don't adore, just because they are present in our space, before the ones we do adore and then consider too precious to use! The short of it: Whittle that shit down! Use that shit you adore! Pass that shit on that you do not adore! Life is too short to be consumed by that which we do not want to be consumed by. Thank you HLP for the weekly reminder to remind ourselves to appreciate our stash, ourselves, really, and pardon my exuberant verbiage.

For things like the foundations would it be a good idea to depot a wee bit into an eensy container so you could keep using them for comparisons but declutter the large bottle?

like you, the space i’m in right now is not permanent it is just a transitional space. i’m always trying to monitor what i bring in and take out but it’s gotten a little bananas lately😂 definitely needed this to kick start my motivation to do my declutter and makeup inventory. if the pandemic has taught me anything it’s not to waste time or energy on something that doesn’t make me truly happy, especially makeup

I love your videos- you’re so mindful and peaceful at the same time. I love hearing you talk through things as it helps me to re-evaluate what I’m doing in my own life with stuff. How long did this decluttering take in real life? I’m trying to be more realistic about my time expectations and although I know you condensed it down to 32 minutes, it took a lot longer than that. I’m only about 6 minutes in, so you may have said it later but I’m just curious.

I think it probably took about four hours, but I was very focused because I was filming. I didn't let myself get distracted. However, I also spent extra time moving the camera and the lights for every new angle! I think part of why I was able to speed through is that I wasn't worrying about the destiny of the products-I didn't try to separate them into "donate" and "give away" and "toss" at the same time as I decided to declutter them. Keeping that as a separate process helped this part go faster.

this was so satisfying to watch. i have a question - i've always thought of skincare as a bathroom item - like toothpaste or body wash - since i don't like to touch my face and rub in product unless i have 100% clean hands. how do you manage bringing stuff in and out? do you use a caddy? or do you wash your hands first and then do skincare in your room?

this is so funny because the answer is that I don't touch anything on the way down from the shower, which is upstairs in this house. I use the corner of my robe to turn off the bathroom light and open the bathroom door, and then I come straight down and do skincare at my vanity. If I'm ever worried about my hands I either go wash them or sanitize my fingertips. That's why there's rubbing alcohol on my vanity!

I really like it because it's not too sweet and feels vintage but not fusty. But I can totally see it being divisive!

I really feel this way about decluttering my small collection. Some things just get too old. Even though I loved some of my old old pallets, I don't really want to put them on my eyes after 6 years HAHAHA. If it differs from my routine, it has to be newer in order to stay in my collection PS, my small collection is just that. I have more than the plain Jane, and I have less than the amount you kept. It's basically enough to fill 1.5 large makeup bags

I appreciate you stopping to thoroughly explain why you are decluttering some stuff. I think, as a viewer, when I watch these and I see products being thrown out that I either like or wanted, it makes me feel like they weren’t good products. Like they didn’t perform. It’s nice to know that isn’t necessarily the case here. It almost makes you question your choices I guess? 🤷🏼‍♀️. Anyway, I get it. Love your videos

me too! I think it's because I have both a black shadow and a brown shadow that I like better now. It was such a good palette for so long, but I haven't been using it!
