The people believed that the bubble would again come to save them... But the bubble did not appear. Faced by an onslaught of Chuggaa's bad puns, bad camera angles and an extremely hard stage in a Mario game, the people could do nothing but appeal to the Gods. In their last hour, as doom drew nigh, they left their future in the hands of fate.
The worst part of this level is the lack of checkpoints. Because the level itself is a good challenge and well designed, but without a checkpoint it becomes tedious and it becomes a test of physical endurance instead of skill because you are going to mess up at some point regardless of skill because of the strict timing, but are then forced to start the very long level from the start, which is extremely tiring. I've become quite good at the level, but because of the length I've not gotten enough chances to practice the final segment with the boost pads, so every time I get there I die at some point and am too exhausted to get there without dieing to small mistakes in earlier parts which just makes me more likely to die even more until I give up, I only beat the level because I played with someone else which acted as a sorta checkpoint. If they wanted to go with a no-checkpoint challenge then they should've made a shorter level like in Galaxy 1. Or added one checkpoint and made the level harder, it would at least be more fair then.
Zum1UDontNo yeah, but its shorter, and only the last two segments are actually difficult. Particularly the Hammer Bros. which I could never get past. But you can always get a second player to freeze them. They both need at least one checkpoint though.
GBDupree Well, the first 3 you can get down easily. The 4th is pretty darn hard, especially if you have no clouds left. 5th is difficult, but you can cheese it pretty easily. Last section with the hammer bros is rectal bleeding.
Zum1UDontNo I remember having found a way to get through the cloud section with an extra cloud so I found a way to cheese the next section, and then imediately dieing to the hammer bros. and then was too tired to go through the whole level, which wasn't even hard just time consuming, only to have to do it again because there was hammers flying everywhere and I would die. So I honestly think the Champion's Road is better designed just because of the lack of Hammer Bros.
If nothing else, the camera should at least be consistent. Focus on player 1, focus on the player in front, focus on the biggest group, SOMETHING consistent.
+Tuss what I'm saying is that no matter what they pick, someone will have a reason to complain, so it's hard to satisfy a fan base so multi sided in this case. Biting the bullet as they say.
+ak47rocks1337 JoshJepson holds the award for worst guest in a TRG LP/Collab for his efforts in NSMB U because he didn't appear in that LP. Nope they didn't have Josh as a guest for NSMB U. All they had for a guest was that horrible Jon 2.0
I really like that we've had two full videos of fails so far. Really hammers in how difficult this final level is. I do think it'll become tedious if it continues for too much longer, though. Maybe the next part should be a montage of the rest of your fails and your successful attempt.

To the people who say why 3D Mario games don't have multiplayers like this... This and several other stages alone is why... Should've just stuck with taking turns like in SMW imo.

I'm starting to think THIS is the true anti co op game. bad camera, bouncing off head physics, 100% collecting problems, button's that can do two things at once and cheap shots all around. God, Matt was right about miyamoto being pure evil to all gamers

11:30 There's this one game I played for the Wii called "Lego Indiana Jones 2: The Adventure Continues." While that game is 2-player focused and is more about puzzles than platforming, it has a good camera system. When the 2 players go far enough from each other, the camera transitions into split-screen. If this system was adopted into Mario 3D World, the camera would have to zoom out a little so that players can still see stage obstacles coming. But I think it could work.
I quite like actually seeing how these guys showing how truly dragging and challenging this level is...removing most of the failed attempts would make it feel less gripping IMO.
In our playthrough we HAD to use Rosalina. We also made sure one person was bubbled and using the gamepad to stop certain obstacles. It really helped on those "laser" portions.
After many episodes of being given a break in favor of Mario, Rosalina had finally been summoned once again to being Chuggaaconroy's character....for Champion's Road. With great determination, Rosalina happily jumps back into the fray...only to land in a bottomless pit...several times...with several Game Overs... Rosalina is beginning to question if Chuggaa still has his marbles. She had failed to understand this when the others were trying to tell her the truth in that regard and now she is starting to get it. Despite this, however, Rosalina is still happy to be back in the thick of it to contribute herself to the cause of...wait, why are they playing this level again?
I'm so glad I'm not the only person with troubles in this stage. It's the only thing I haven't done in this game yet (besides playing every stage with every character but I'm actually honing in on that excepting this stage as well)
Am I the only one who want's 3D World to be over with? Don't get me wrong, this LP is definitely in my Top 10 Best TRG Let's Plays, but it's just dragging on at this point. I want to see Mario Party 5, or another game they already have recorded. Not them failing at the same thing over and over.
+Alex LPS (everything24778) this stage is the reason i have never gone back to 3D world. After 12 non stop hours of doing this stage with every character one after another i will probably never return to 3d world for solo gameplay again. So yes i want to see this game over.
+LiogerZero You could've beaten the stage, and then used 3 other controllers to spawn in other players to grab the flagpole. That's what I did. You only gotta beat the stage twice. Hell, that's how I "beat" every other stage with all the characters. I'm not fuckin' playing the whole game 5 times.

I totally understand why many people may be annoyed that they're splitting up Champion's Road; I don't blame you at all. But I actually kind of like it because there's some suspense in not knowing whether they're going to actually beat the level in a particular episode. It makes watching it more engaging. Maybe that's just me. On top of that, keep in mind that they can only meet up to record so many times over the course of time. It's not like they all live next door to eachother. So it's understandable why they would spread out content like this.
They did fix the 3D platforming multiplayer camera problem. Of all games the Lego games did. They split the screen when the camera got too far apart. Now the platforming in Lego games is much easier but it could probably be adapted to work well in a 3D platformer like Super Mario 3D World.
Man, 21:37-21:46 gets me every time! How are there so many funny moments in this LP, even if TRG's on the same course in the last few episodes? Also, you're not alone at 21:38, Emile, I thought that was the airhorn too...
Trust me, if the right person was looking at that apartment they'd think it was the best apartment ever because you guys record next door. :) Wonder what it'd be like listening to that and wondering what craziness would make its way onto the internet next. :D
I would like to point out that, in the beginning of the game when they're trying to kill each other, no one dies. Late game, when they try to work together, they get game over... repeatedly.
The only way to have a functional 3D platformer camera is for everyone to have their own screen, but to prevent it from just one person rushing through, they have to maintain a certain distance apart or else they can't progress. This would not be a practical solution though since making 3 extra screens is costly. The gamepad alone is $150.
wearing a cat suit is not enough,wearing a cat suit while bringing a tanooki suit is the best. tanooki suit CAN be useful in the later part of champion's road.
ok, that enough fun for myself to be enjoying this. the 1st ep was delightful to me in failures but now its getting sad on the second one. so if everyone can just share some possitivity to them, we'll getting back to dokapon kingdom much faster.
9:00 - 9:06 I can't tell if calling a failed run "practice" is a thinly veiled attempt to explain away your failure or an ingenious form of reasoning to explain that what happened wasn't actually a failure. I'm leaning toward the first one.
+Chris Cecena (CallMeCmoney) Honestly after the first 3 failed attempts in the last episode, i skipped to the final one hoping they made it, no, so then i watched the first one on this, planning to watch the rest, got too bored, skipped to the end thinking they made it, nope, like, it's not really all to do with commentary, i just have a horrible attention span and seeing the same thing over and over has no entertainment value to me, and yeah, kinda getting annoyed with this whole showing every failure, if there's like, 5 parts, I'll go crazy XD It's one thing to drag it out, but damn :')
+shinydiglett I like GameGrumps too. The thing is and you can take this as good or bad, i kind of expect different kinds of LP from the grumps and the guys. GameGrumps are more centred on the making the commentary good over beating the game. TRG is more so on making progress in the game over commentary. In both cases we see some self-awareness in both sides. When everyone goes in to concentration mode and nobody talks, someone like Jon says "great commentary guys" On the grumps sometimes they'll make a video as long as it takes to complete 1 objective. Danny would say "we're not ending the episode in till we beat this".
Without giving anything away, is there anything else after this that would need its own video for? Because if not, there's a possibility that the next one will have "Finale" in the title if they're not careful w/ the title/ if they beat it; either way it seems like that'd be a spoiler in general.
Certain web browsers have the ability to play sound when you slow the videos down to 0.25x speed (you'd just have to rewind and then go forward again for it to play sound). I did that a few times.
Y'know, it's levels like this where it becomes REALLY obvious that the devs just said, "and add multiplayer" without giving a thought as to how that actually works. Because every single thing they complain about is a result of four people being on screen, cluttering it. Head-bouncing, bad camera, popping each others' bubbles, and especially the pausing. And the weird thing is, none of those problems need to be there. Head-bouncing allows for unintended shortcuts, and in this game, they can pop their own bubbles, so why not make popping yourself the ONLY way out of a bubble? It would certainly stop people from popping over death-pits. Pausing doesn't need to happen either. Just give them a few invincibility frames and let them run through a couple of hits. You'd be really surprised how not-actually-broken that is. Which would leave the only problem being the bad camera, which seems to do whatever the hell it wants. I freely acknowledge that 3D cameras can be bad in single-player mode, especially when they try to move on their own to a position where you don't want them, and it leaves me wondering why it's so hard to make a good camera. And honestly, the best camera I think I've ever seen is the NSMB2 multiplayer's camera, of all things. Focus on one player and let them trade it off if they feel the need. Because at LEAST half of these deaths are on account of the camera just refusing to focus on a player who isn't...y'know, dead. I'm not trying to say this is a bad game, not by any means, but WOW that multiplayer looks really uncooperative. Hats off to you guys for finishing this LP dealing with that camera...and the other broken mechanics too, but mostly the camera.
Easy Multiplayer platformer camera solution: Main screen stays the same for people watching, controllers become handheld systems(in this case 3ds)/wii u game pads and show a less graphically intense version of the game(at least on the 3ds) with the camera focused on you, and your own screen will warn you when you get too far ahead/behind allies just because I know with that system chuggaa would always go too far ahead of everyone
Hey, just saying, if you wanted extra hits, you could use the WRTP tactic, where you jump of the ledge regaining the extra hit thing. It only works with atleast four or five lives, though :P
