I don't even think I even bothered to beat the game. I was playing it because everyone was hyped about N64. Mario Kart 64 was the reason to play N64 though.

I bet all of the people getting mad that he said he was a legend are all the people who skipped to the end without truly understanding what it takes to be this good.
"It will be funny WHEN this record is broken to watch this dude call himself a legend." He will still remain legendary. Every runner who has contributed something to this game belongs in the history of speedrunning.
Well, yes and no. I don't think that from a purely gameplay/technique standpoint that the runs are comparable. Take Rikku's inputs in a Japanese ROM and play the back on a real console and we can really see how close it would be on a more equal footing concerning lag, loading, and the intro's time difference. Of course, with the way RNG would be affected by the JROM's opening...seeing the difference is probably unrealistic, and we'd have to compare to the console verification of the US version and hope that the lag isn't different enough in J vs US to really know how this run compares purely on gameplay/technique.
i have never seen mario 64 played at such a level of mastery...so many of these shortcuts and tricks and acrobatics completely stumped me, i could never have thought of them. not once through this nearly 2 hour walkthrough did i get used to it or get bored. the entire time my jaw was dropped. i've been watching this walkthrough slowly for a week
I literally just finished watching the first sub 1:40 run cheese did... And now I am informed it was beaten... AND THEN BEATEN AGAIN?? This is going to far.

Everybody is struggling for months to get better times, then some "random" guy comes along, get super close to sub 140...and then you and puncay shit on the 140 and beat it mutliple times. Incredible. You are awesome!
That's why i wrote "random" guy.(you see the " " ?) He was good, but for a long period of time, he was no where near the top players. Cheese and Puncay battle for years now, changing WR-holders, back and forth. Of course he is not some real random dude, but it was still a big surprise that he got the WR.

Allan, I don't know if you respond to messages, but you are so great. SM64 is the game that got me into gaming, and although it is not my absolute favorite, ever since Dark Souls taught me to hate myself, it definitely holds a spot in my top three. I have recently started learning a lot of the glitches and movement strategies, and plan on trying to get up there with you and puncayshun for tries. I am still a ways away, but maybe someday. Keep shattering expectations, and sub 1:39 will be yours!

i kept saying in the chat that he hated playing the first two levels and right when he beat them he would go far and everyone was making fun of me telling me i knew nothing about speedrunning, well here you go twitch chat, he pushes through the first two levels despite the time lost and we get the next wr.
Your ability to recover from mistakes is amazing. A few times I thought, "How did that not end his run?" only to see you switch gears and claim a star 10 seconds later. Congrats on the WR!
great speedrun sir! i think this speedrun will be world record for at least another 2 years :) i just am so amazed at your skills, the movement in this game is so hard. well done for memorizing where to jump and longjump etc, this is the best speedrun i have ever seen
absolutely if we get some alternate human-constantly-possible BLJ strats and find out, when and how TTC upwarp happenes, then 1:37 wouldn't be a big deal as well

I was really busy this weekend so I wasn't able to go on Twitter or Twitch much.. so one night I finally checked Twitter and found out Puncay took WR. I was like holy shit :o congratz! Then I wake up the next fucking day and find out Cheese got a mid 1:39?!?! Congratz! lol 1:38 seems like it can happen sooner than a lot of people thought 😂 well deserved, Cheese
i actually remember watching him play a while back and he missed 1:39 because he missed the last throw with bowser. He still broke the record but he was hella pissed. It's nice to see him get it
There are some red splits in this, meaning 1:38 is certainly possible. This is amazing, I would even say inspiring even if you aren't into speedrunning! Here's hoping Allan can do this at SGDQ!
Amazing, I remember watching your disappointment when you just barely missed getting sub 1:40 and then when you got sub 1:40 for the 1st time. I look forward to seeing how much more optimization you can squeeze out of the game and honestly believe you will forever hold the world record.

Yrtiop He lost time on BBH, WDW, and WF compared to his past PB. Collectively that's about 30 seconds lost at least. He can save a lot of time on RR and HMC too, his PB now is a lot lower than his SOB for those segments. Still really good run though. His upstairs was amazing generally

Literally every Mario 64 speedrun I watch, I skip the boo house cause I hate watching it, it's just really confusing and I think it is a dumb level and even when I play the game, I never touch it...its gross
Agreed. It was my least favorite level as a kid. Just annoying and confusing and claustrophobic. And when I got killed by a flying book I just wanted to throw my controller at the screen.
i wish I read that after the run... but that noise is a ground noise most likely due to a bad interface or interface setting. in other words it's from his mic which he probably had the input turned way up so he can just talk casually while it's not in screen.
