I loved this game as a kid, the music, the characters, the atmosphere..I loved everything about it. It's so nostalgic to see the intro after all these years
@@tzarnick1507 this game did introduce some common things that stayed throughout the series, like Mario's ability to pick things up, throw turtle shells, etc, the Babombs we're first introduced here I think
I was just playing this game yesterday. That proves just how much of a nostalgia-holic I am. I play these old school games a lot and I'd always be happy to play these classics.
It’s NOT a Mario game. Nintendo America just took a Japanese only game called Doki Doki Panic and replaced the playable characters with Mario and his 3 friends and slapped the Mario name on it. This game has nothing to do with Mario.
@@trevorbayers2175 even though the same development team made both games, even the same lead developer Shigeru Miyamoto? Even he considered USA SMB 2 canon to the main series. Many of the NES flagship games sequels of that era were radically different from their predecessors Zelda II: The Adventure of Link looked and played totally different from the first game, even though the same team made both games and considers it canon. So did Castlevania II: Simon's Quest from the original Castlevania. Yes, made by Konami but was and still is considered a NES/Nintendo flagship franchise to the point they even got Konami's permission to include it in Super Smash Bros. All three main franchises did go back to the old engines or made new versions of their old engines to many fans demands while most liked the newer engines, the vast majority liked the old engines or would accept new versions of the old engines. Hence why Super Mario Bros 3, LoZ: A Link to the Past and Castlevania III were new versions or even 16-bit versions of the original engines
@@trevorbayers2175the game was actually originally pitched as a new entry to super mario bros before the lost levels was even out, so doki doki panic was developed with mario in mind. it came full circle when they realised it would be a bad idea to release lost levels outside japan, so they took the game that was originally meant for mario and actually made it mario
@@chrismc410 Either way, I hate SMB2 West édition for being so darn difficult, that was meant to be SMB2 East's quirk. I used less save states on The Lost levels than the DDP makeup, which was used because The Lost Levels was apparently too difficult for western audiences.
2 is always the love hate one. When I was a kid I never got close to ever beating it but I loved the game so much i remember playing it like it was yesterday.
If you subscribe to the nintendo switch online service then you can play this. Plus a library of many other nes snes n64 game boy and sega games. As a 6 year old i could never beat this game. However i recently finished it.
@@Yoshihelicopteryou make it sound so basic. Smb2 added onto music, updated several graphics, changed physics, redid menus, and some bosses changed too.
Thats because its NOT a Mario game. The REAL Super Mario Bros 2 was never released in North America, only Japan. The real Super Mario 2 was a carbon copy of the original Super Mario Bros game in terms of graphics, music and character design. The only difference was the level layouts and it was MUCH harder than the first game. Nintendo America thought the real Super Mario 2 was too difficult for American’s because, well, American’s are kinda stupid, so they never released SM2 in North America. This game in the video is actually called Doki Doki Panic, a game that has nothing to do whatsoever with the Mario series. Nintendo just took that game, and changed the 4 playable characters from Japanese Anime type characters into Mario, Peach, Luigi and Toad, then slapped the Mario name on it, and fooled American players into thinking this was actually Super Mario Bros 2.
You went through all of that just to see a man sleeping in his bed at the end of the game. lol It was funny to me to think that it was all a dream. This by far is one of the best Mario games ever made.
I use to come home every day after school and conquer this game using all the warps. I did play it through the first few times and it was fun. I love part 2.
The potions in this game are probably part of the reason why the Super Mario Bros. Super Show involved magic, and there's also a Birdo in the first episode, as well as pigeons in the episode Mario's Magic Carpet, which could be the same birds in this game. Even the music from the main theme of this game is played very often in the show. This game itself is actually very interesting also, because it was not made into the typical formula of a Mario game.
Thats because it was not a Mario game. This game is a Japanese only game called Doki Doki Panic. In Japan it had other playable characters that were not Mario and friends but totally different characters. It has nothing to do with the Mario series at all. Nintendo America took this game and replaced the actual playable characters with Mario, Luigi, Peach and Toad and slapped the Mario name on it. Thats why its so different than Mario games, because its NOT a Mario game at all.
This game was so weird. I remember playing part 1 then part 3 which seemed to be a natural progression, but then i played this, man, it was super weird....
This was personally my least favorite because this game is just a reskin of Yume Kōjō: Doki Doki Panic. The true Part 2 will always be Super Mario Bros. 2: The Lost Levels.
Like many, I absolutely love SMB2. To me it is one of the perfect examples of how a platform game should be done. Since I'm an adult, I was kinda shocked to discover some people dislike it. Sorry but, this is head and shoulders better than the Japanese one. Is not even a contest. The controls alone leave the other in the dust, let alone graphics, music and the gameplay.
Idk why but those ice levels with the vases? Hella nostalgia!! And the rocket ship. Oh yeah and the lil ninja star guys and throwing bombs at the walls.
This is the american one, the actual super mario bros 2 is japan exclusive and much more like the first super mario bros. Japans super mario bros 2 is also called super mario bros the lost levels.
The Japanese version of Super Mario Brothers was so much harder than the original that companies worried other gamers wouldn't be able to handle it. So they for the sequel took an existing game and inserted the SMB characters and elements into it. That's why it is WAY different from the first one.
I was a BIG Super Mario Bros fan growing up. Mario 3 is my favorite video game of all time and Super Mario Bros is in my top 5. This was my least favorite of the 3 but still a fun game. I didn't beat it until 2007 on Gameboy Advance. I played earlier this year and it took 2 WEEKS to beat it! It was so hard. Much respect to this fun game.
Ragtime and Dixieland and HOT MUSIC all over this soundtrack make the entire experience absolutely American/Global and absolutely amazing. One of the goats.
@@TypicalVole2437 No, I only see Shy Guy. Mario 64 doesn't have little jumping pterodactyls, black ninja stars, Birdo, winged masked things with spears, magic carpet things, jumping cobras, flying masks, jumping fish, porcupines, fast white blob things...
@@koopatroopa6882 Bob-omb could be one, but those were also in Super Mario Bros 3 and Super Mario World, which were before Super Mario 64. Anyway, I wouldn't say Shy Guy and Bob-omb is "a lot."
We used to call it the "LSD"-Mario, cause for us as kids it looked as if someone would be on a strange trip or these kind of fever-dreams you have when being ill....at least we imagined it to be like that...😅😮❤
So cool thanks for a great walk through. I just bought this game for $17 and I can’t wait to play it again for the first time in at least 25 years. So cool
Loved this game as much as the other Mario games. Btw, I can see why they decided not to release the "original" SMB 2 here as it was more difficult and too similar to Mario 1. I am glad they did release Japan's SMB2 as "Lost Levels" on All Stars for SNES.
Did McDonald's inspire this game? You have the Flurries which are called FLURRIES and look like Grimace. Then there are the Fryguys, also another McDonalds characters
They were the days weren’t they. I remember seeing the Mario sleeping cartoon at the end after beating the game and thinking how good the animation was. Great times.
Fun Fact About Super Mario Bros 2 Did You Know That If You Grab The Potion Throw It And Enter The Door, You Can See The World Is Reversed Compared To The Normal World Maybe Its The "Reversed World Door"
That was a good walkthrough typhloson4president and you haven't died really in the game and you took damage and you are really doing good on that game then me
Hi, I was wondering if I could use your video for a Gameplay Compilation I'm working on putting together. I will give you credit in the description of the video.
During the level you can get coins (which you can only get by opening a portal with the magic potion then digging up plants in the opposite world). The number of coins you get during the level, you get that same number of “spins” on the slot machine after you beat the level.
