What puzzles me, is the Super Boy games were for Master System, which allowed up to 15(16 if you count transparent) colours per sprite, which is considerably higher than a NES' 3(4 incl transparent), yet they downgraded the number colours used...

Hey Darby. I just thought of it, this isn't a bootleg or pirate or anything, but another fan game made in Super Mario Bros. X. It's called Super Mario Bros. 3 Remake, and it's pretty much SMB3 in SMBX. I thought you might like to check it out, since you like Super Mario Bros. 3 a lot.

SB2 is the lost levels I think, SB3 is Super Mario World, SB4 is probably unique

Super Boy 4 actually looks rather fun. I support their buffing of the Fire Flower compared to SMW, where it felt like more than half the enemies in the game were immune.

As far as I know, Super Boy 2 is a mashup of SMB Special and SMB Lost Levels 1-1 is same as Special at the start, Most of 1-1 is Lost Levels-Like

In Super Boy 4 when he collects the hand, why does he become black? Did he stay out in the sun too long or was he walking around in blackface? Because both of those are bad but for completely different reasons.

They keep improving through iterations. Assuming its the same group, they shaping up INTO something

Because they are too similar to the source material, and they're quite fair, handing out checkpoints (must be Christmas!) I think these were designed as satirizations of bootlegs of the olden era. And that's pretty kewl. They did a good job of making it seem legit, making them more "fake" as the games go on. Plus, most bootlegs don't have direct sequels, usually they just cash in on existing sequel names to trick parents into thinking it's the legit one.

The SBOY scrolling weirdness is the bad guys have a screen position not a world position. So when the screen background scrolls they don't scroll at the same rate.

My friend got a bootleg Nintendo Classic Mini that allegedly had like 300 games on it. Some were actual ports of the originals and some were just in there several times, but our favorite was called "Kung Fu Mario" (I think) and it was literally just some kung fu game with Mario's head on the player character instead of the original head.

You should play that thing with 7 mario games in one (the one that includes 7 grand dad)

There was one I played back in 2000 on a laptop and it's driving me nuts because I can't figure out what it was. I would say it was early emulation because it looked and sounded near identical to the real thing as far as I could tell, and it crashed sometimes on World 1-4, but idk if it was because I definitely remember World 1-3 being different and you didn't see a Koopa until at least World 2-1.

I think you were playing the MSX version of super boy 1 because the sky was darker in the SMS than the MSX version and in the SMS version, there was a mushroom at the first part of the level while you can't do that in the MSX version. Also, in the SMS version on level 1-4, there are fire bars and in the MSX version o the same level, there are no firebars.

Pepsi logo is actually for Korea where the game originated. It's a variation of the ying yang.
