I remember buying my friend a Gameboy Color from a flea market back in high school, and she eventually got SMB Deluxe and Unlocked the lost levels. We had a pretty long bus trip from school back home so every bus trip back I would play this while she would either watch or sleep. When I got to 8-4, I remember dying a few times to the lava jump at the very beginning but after that I somehow managed to do a flawless run from start to finish, albeit a little slow. To this day I have no idea what happened, and it was the first time I beat The Lost Levels in any capacity on my own until recently on Switch Online's NES emulator.
It really sucks. This is why there should have been a Super Mario Advance 5. On the bright side, Nintendo released a Game and Watch version of Super Mario Bros., which includes SMB1, SMB2J, and Ball. I beat SMB2J twice, and I need to beat it at least six more times to unlock Worlds A, B, C, D. As for World 9, I don't feel like unlocking it right now, as I am a busy man. Nonetheless, I must take some time to revisit those classics, especially the Lost Levels, in order to master the game.
Also no wind or properly bouncing off Paratroopas. You have such a tiny bounce before plummeting here, and it takes some already tough challenges and makes them so much worse. 8-2’s beanstalk was terrible to get in this version
Then japanese and the American distributors found this too difficult for our poor western souls. Thank God Dark Souls existed and now the Hardcore Gaming it's finally mainstream.
7-2 was a constant nightmare for me. The day I finally got it I was pumped - then struggled with 8-1. Decided for fun tostart over without saving progress, and accidentally did just that. Forgot how many years ago this was but today I'm at.... *drum roll* ... 7-2 -.-
Yeah, 7-2 sucks. I also saw videos from the lost levels on NES, which contains the same levels as for super players, and I saw you could jump much higher if you jump on a koopa. So 7-2 then is not as hard as on gameboy color.
@@DREADFALCON13 That's how you get the Bowser award? I never knew that. This version of the game really promotes replayability between the first run, the second run, the challenge run with collectibles, the lost levels, you vs Boo, and 2 player if you're lucky. Damn it's no wonder I love this version so much lol. It's a crying shame about the screen crunch.
Out of all the levels, W4-4 and W8-2 are my favorite levels. 4-4 has a ton of strategy that you have to employ if you want to speed run this. In addition to the two large firebars that really make this level adoring. 8-2 is the last outdoor maze. Diabolical and menacing as you would never think a vine would take you to the end of the level
Playing the lost levels felt like a sadistic fan game. The fact they had a warp pipe that went back to world 1. Or you could jump in a pit. And world 1-1 is pretty difficult for a first playthru and level
@ShiningNagi: Since Super mario bros. the lost levels was originaly meant to be the sequal to the arcade version of Super mario bros. Since the Super mario Bros. Deluxe version of it remove the high bounce makeing it harder than the family computer version. So the Super mario bros. Deluxe version of Super Mario bros. the lost levels played exactly as if it would have stay as the arcade version. that his why they remove world 9 through D, because if it would have become an arcade version does extra would not be in.
World 8 does not fuck around, I finally made the jump to the vine in world 8-2 after on and off trying over the last 8 years and now I’m stuck on 8-3 😁🤣
