My favorite part about summoning salt is how he’ll be talking about how someone made an extremely important discovery and then their name is something like “420_blazit” or something.

When I hear "impossible" "too precise" or "too difficult for a human" in the speedrunning community I end up translating it to "give us a bit we'll figure it out"

I think my favorite progression in these stories is always the slow transition from “impossible for humans to achieve” to “regarded as impossible for humans” to “being attempted by top runners” to “it was finally achieved by”

For anyone late to this video like me, 8-4 was run perfectly by two runners over a year and a half ago. The wr as of 4 days ago was tied with the TAS up until 8-4. Humans are 22 frames away from Any% perfection.

Update for all wondering: the perfect run for the last level has been achieved

Over a year, thousands of hours, pain, triumph, happiness, depression. Months and months of work. All to get 3 seconds of screentime in a summoning salt video... my life is complete.

Maybe the real perfect 8-4 run was the friends we made along the way.

Update to this video: 1. 8.4 had been fully completed down to the frame 2. Nobody has been able to put these all of the levels together for a perfect run 3. Niftski holds the current record with a time of 4.54.798 and he’s had it for almost a year 4. The community still continues to this day to get the time lower and lower

We're at the point where speedrunners are gonna start playing during solar storms in hopes of having a beneficial bit flip.

Just checking in to say niftski hit frame perfect 8-4 2 days in a row recently. And he’s already done up to 8-3 matching the TAS. 4.54.26 might happen in 2024

And now nifski has done almost all of this i a full run, only missing lightning 4-2 and a few frames here and there in 8-4. These guys are absolute legends

The frame rule existing is one of the best things in this speed run, making "perfection" seem attainable

I love finding music through documentaries, and I always try to remember the tracks as more than "that song from The Civil War." I can never manage it with Ashokan Farewell, and I can never manage it with We're Finally Landing. You have created something so profoundly inspiring with these docs, and I implore you to never forget it.

I know my old history teacher in 11th grade once broke out his NES and bet us all that he could beat the game for us in under 10 minutes, and our little teenage minds were blown when he beat it in 8 minutes. Speed running is awesome.

This literally made me tear up. I love video games. I love the human condition. I could never have imagined this was the future of Mario, as a little kid at my grandmas just gaming away.
