It's so weird. SMK was such an early game that half of these characters didn't have anything to base their theme on. Even then, the ones that did only did so loosely. It's so subtle.
@@ThighFish The Princess' theme seems to come from the coin heaven theme (SMB3) Koopa's theme seems to be based on a world map theme of some sort maybe? Toad's is... something... That's all I can recognize
idk why but I just love Koopa's song so much, I also really like Yoshi's theme, and I like Toad's theme a lot because its nostalgic (I always used Toad)
Mario: Mario Number 1 Wahoo! Luigi: foreshadowing Strikers a little bit Peach: rainbows and sparkles and unicorns! Toad: GOO GOO GAGA IM BIG DUMB BABY Yoshi; happy fluttery Yoshi sounds! DKjr: *stock gorilla noises* Bowser: I'd rather be driving Harley Davidson! Koopa: golly I never won anything in mah life!
Mario, Yoshi and DK Jr= the most positive and coolest victory tunes imo Mario- a mellow, a bit watered-down victory tune in which a I hear a humble, down to earth message of “the best revenge really is living well, and ya know what? I’m doing ok!” as if there is nothing too flashy, huge or significant in his life right now; in fact, perhaps he recently survived and recovered from a violent metaphorical storm in his life, but is now generally happy, peaceful, stable and unaffected by it and has a quiet smile that his conniving enemies couldn’t succeed in wiping off his face…He still hasn’t found his counterpart yet, but it’s ok for now bc he is the type of bachelor who is currently happy in his own quiet company after going through a rough breakup with a crazy, toxic, hellish and narcissist lady.. Yoshi- This victory tune is the loud, bright, flashy, clear and decisive *epitome* of victory- and even the cheerful whistles in the music support this-it sends a clear, direct and unmistakeable feeling of breakthrough, shining and undeniable success and winning..like a hockey player scoring that game-winning goal, launching his arm up, and the thrill of it finally happening after a long, weary, hard-fought and yet scoreless period…it’s kinda like a “You go boy!/girl!” positive voice saying “See?, I told ya you would make it, and ya did! Ya gotta have some faith!” or a “Haha! In ya face b! Dam right son! That’s how it’s done! Learn from the King/Queen!” And it’s not just a simple victory, it’s like a *revitalizing* victory, in which something that was previously dead and frozen is suddenly resurrected with an explosion of new life.. DK Jr- Here we have the victory after-party of celebration, where DK is breaking out on the dance floor to celebrate his sheer joy of winning- Yoshi’s theme also has the tinge of joy to it, but DK’s joy of victory just screams more fun and partying than Yoshi’s, like DK just has to bust some breakdancing moves to express himself and can’t hold it back any longer…the emphasis here is on the pure joy, fun and expression *of* victory versus Yoshi where the focus is purely *on* the victory *itself*
for me the themes of toad, koopa and peach are the best. but the one that always stick to me is donkey kong's theme. ones you were a certain level donkey and bowser are the best characters in the game because they are by far the fasest
The one I didn’t really play as when I played this on NSO was DK Jr.. He and Bowser are the same weight class(heavy), but I played as Bowser in the 50cc Star Cup. That was kinda hard, but I still managed to get gold. But when I tried DK Jr. in the 100cc Special Cup, I just immediately quit after losing the 1st race and switched to Toad, because he’s just too slow to start. Even as Toad, it took me a few days to get gold in the Special Cup(I finally did it a few hours ago!), because all the tracks are unnecessarily hard! I never would’ve gotten ANYWHERE in it as DK Jr.!
