yea let me just spend 400$ CAD plus tax on a switch and then buy this game and only use the switch for a select few games, quality purchase. It all depends on how you wanna spend your money in the end
I had a ps4 for a long time and my dad didn’t really care but after seeing mario odyssey, his love for games rekindled. I really hope mario lives for a long time despite new generation of gamers having a complete different taste in games. And Botw is pretty much my dream open world game come true.
2017 has certainly been the year of Nintendo. Odyssey is the icing on the cake. Now imagine if the rumours of the Game Boy Classic Edition are true too! Happy gaming 🙌🏻
I just hope that nintendo releases their games for PC in the future.. I'd love to play this game but I don't want to buy the whole console just for one game
Yeah.. I don't get it, there's no real downside for nintendo. Well ok, less people would buy their consoles but SOOO many more people would buy the games for other systems. It would be positive for them for sure
This might possibly be one of the best games I’ve played on the Nintendo Switch. Its 3D/open world style is amazing and adds a more immersive experience. Each Kingdom is so well designed and a lot of fun. I would %100 recommended this game to all types of gamers and I encourage you to buy it.
Why is there so much hate for odyssey? I thought it was a spectacular a game after playing 2 it times(i enjoyed my second play through a lot more the 1st one)
I just got it, a bit late but it’s also my first Mario game that I own. I love how the motion control feels, very smooth and easy to understand but still challenging. It’s pure happiness and joy and there’s so much to explore.
NukNukBRUH took me about 16 hours or so for the main story, and that’s just straight up story, no exploring the worlds. You can put hundreds of hours easily into this
Williord I agree it's overrated but that's just my opinion I like the gameplay but the worlds feel average and the characters in the kingdom are awful.
That moment when you finally decide to buy a switch, SM:O and BotW, but your games get delivered the day before your switch does, So you end up watching youtube to overhype yourself. feelsbadman
@@kingtorra6955 odyssy was a great game, I enjoyed every minute of it. BOTW is freaking massive. Theres almost too much to do, but it comes together nicely. I'd recommend both games for sure.
There are only like, 4 flaws with this game 1: Mario feels a bit slower, good to control just doesn't feel as fast as I would like him to, and the motion controls are a bit unnecessary. (They're mostly optional though.) 2: There are way to many moons, for worlds that aren't 100% fleshed out. (If they cut off like, 200 moons for a more fleshed out, and slightly more challenging experience, then it would be a lot better IMO. Like expanding on the Cloud, and Ruined kingdom to make the absurd amount of moons justified. Its only going to bother a few people though.) 3: The music is really good, but there are parts where its cut off, and for some strange reason, and it stays like that. I get it on maybe the first mission for atmosphere, but it kind of sucks not hearing the awesome soundtrack. (The Post-game attempts to solve this problem by giving you the option to listen to any music you want, anywhere in the game, but it resets after every death or cutscene. What the heck.) 4:The Broodals are cool, but fights are repeated way to often. That's really it. And, if you think about it, only like 2 of these are actual problems, and the other 2 are very niche/nitpicky. Nearly a flawless game. If Mario 64 deserves a 10/10, then this game diserves a 25/10.
Yeah, you need 400 seeds to upgrade, but see, you don't HAVE TO upgrade it in breath of the wild. you don't even have to "do" anything but the Great Plateau and the final boss. In Mario odyssey, you have to get at least 125 moons to go to the final boss, but to get every LEVEL you must get 500 moons. A lot more than Breath of the Wilds korok seeds
Gamesforus all they did was up the scale of Mario 64. The maps are much bigger and in my mind it makes sense. It's just like a collectable thing, you don't have to get all the moon's and either way if you want to it makes the game longer. I always wanted more stars in 64 cus I ended it so quickly.
Man, a bunch of salty people in the comments who either hasn't played it or are just mad because the game was in their mind overhyped. This game is a joyride and deserves praise for the amount of creativity and stuff to do in it. Does it have a few flaws? Sure, but so does any game.
Alexander Chilton that may be true, but to be honest: The game doesn't get to me. Watched like 6 hours of gameplay, and played it for some hours with a friend, to confirm if I should or should not buy a Switch alongside the game. And I have to say: I ended up not buying either. It's all cool, if others enjoy the game, and I also wouldn't say I hated it while playing. But just not hating it doesn't sell a game, or for that matter even a console (in this case with the possibility of an handheld) to me. I bought the Wii U for Mario 3D World, and I have no regrets about that purchase. 3D World is more linear, can't disagree on that, but the gameplay and soundtrack just got to me. One of the biggest issues so far with Odyssee to me is the soundtrack. There are parts in the game, that just don't have any, and the parts which have just don't sound like Mario to me, if you know what I mean. And yeah, I know, that's absolutely subjective, which is why I said it's cool, if others enjoy it, but I don't. Another thing that put me really off was that T-Rex. Why isn't it just Yoshi, and why is it so clunky? That being said: Enjoy the game as much as you can, I don't mean to make it look bad for everyone, I just share my views, have fun!
None of your business Fair enough, I have always enjoyed the bigger sandbox Marios ala 64 and Sunshine more. The only exception to that is Galaxy being my favorite Mario (or tied now with Odyssey). Odyssey has some amazing songs/worlds down the line, so I think you are missing out, but of cause it is all subjective.
Alexander Chilton Ah well, if I ever feel like I'm missing out, I'm sure there will be a game at some point, which feels worthy to buy a Switch, and buying Odyssee isn't that far off at that point, I guess. So far there aren't any tho, Nintendo is a bit slow with it, as they were with the Wii U aswell. Lucky that I mostly play on my PC, so I won't run out of options that quickly ^^ Maybe I'll get more into it by watching more of the gameplay, but for now it's not worth like 400 bucks to me^^
Alexander Chilton Oh, and 64 is probably one of my favorite games alongside Banjo Kazooie, which I got for christmas back then. Goooooood times. Didn't have a Wii tho, so Galaxy sadly was out of the question
Hailey Chapman I bought it because of some let's play of 3D World, where the first episode already was amazing, and got it with Mario Maker and Rayman Legends for the normal prize of the console alone. So.. yeah, 3D World settled the purchase, the other games ontop of an Amiibo were pretty much a bonus
I watch a lot of reviews on games I've already purchased Some games I'm going to get no matter what and am just curious as to what others think. Other times I will base purchases off of reviews. Usually the latter
I loved Super Mario Oddesty, it gave me Super Mario Galaxy vibes and I appreciate it, but I did have my issues with the game. 1# It was a little too short, while it had it's great moments I sadly beat in within five days while other games can take me weeks, months or even a year or two to beat. 2# The bosses are just decent, I enjoyed fighting the broodals the first few times, but then got bored of them. 3# In SMG you have to travel to new awesome Galaxies! But in Odyssey you just went back to the same places going through the same areas over and over again looking for moons with hardly anything new and challenging. The Dragon and Dinosaur was awesome though.
I havent found a single action that uses motion controls that you cant do with buttons. Yeah some of them are less intuitive than the motion controls but you can still do them.
You can do the spinning-throw in front of you for sure, I did it a few times without using motion controls. Throwing upwards is not possible, but that's also the least useful move in the game.
As someone who played last time something from Nintendo in 90s and brought switch the Botw is kinda boring and irritating at same time, tutorial rlly suck. I dunno Animal Crossing is good but it feels like I wasted money on this console.
When I first played Odyssey I thought it kinda felt like Mario 64, Mario Sunshine, and Mario Galaxy had a big threesome and this was the result which happened to make a really good game
For players who want to use the joycon grip or hand held mode, most of the time the motion controls are really just optional. The only time I found myself needing to use the motion controls was when I was climbing poles because shaking the controller is the only way to climb faster. Other than that though, I played most of the main game hand held without any issues. Some of the stuff after the main game kind of requires the motion controls a bit more, like when you’ve got to roll really fast to get particular moons.
Nicholas Borg Seeing what they did with Breath of the Wild and Super Mario Odyssey just makes me super excited about what they’re going to do with Metroid Prime 4!
Absolutely loving this game! The only "problem" I have with it is that when I want to put it down to do silly things like sleep, I see that next thing I want to do. :)
Loved the video, congrats to Jake. Imho, Mario Odyssey felt a LOT like a super roided out Banjo Kazooie game. Just constantly running around, finding moons for things both super easy, and super complex. It reminds me of the jiggies, and the worlds in Banjo Tooie the most. The only complaints I had were mostly aesthetic. *spoiler* like the lack of Luigi ..... *end* or the fact that there aren't powerup mushrooms, at all. They could have just model swapped with the Hearts to include Red and Green mushrooms, but that's mostly just a personal want than a necessity.
I’ve been playing Odyssey since release and it has become one of the most mind-numbingly easy games I’ve ever played. When I play this game and go to a new world I think to myself “maybe this one is where the challenge comes in” and it never does. Once I got to the end, collecting moons felt like punching another Minecraft tree to death.
@@acon70 Im late but same , litreally got the game 3 days ago best it , and now im 4 moons from getting the seceret kingdom , this is easily the most fun ive had in agame in a long time
This is actually my first before u buy I watched.. and it's actually better than what I thought they were.. very informative and non biased.. I'm impressed.. I just beat the game today... it's a masterpiece 🙏🏽
My favorite thing about the game is how you can pick up the switch and play for five minutes. You will more than likely find a moon or two in that amount of time. Makes it a perfect companion for travel when you can’t sit down and play for 4+ hours.
Andreas Erber Sunshine was the most experimental Mario game. There was always going to be complaints. Calling the Moons Moon Sprites would have been a nice little callback. But Moons are just fine too.
I know I’m about a month late but I feel this comment is absolutely necessary. The motion controls aren’t completely needed. To throw cappy downward just ground pound and immediately throw him. As you’re not going to be using the downward throw in mid-air anyway, it’s just as easy to do this instead. The upward throw isn’t even really that useful. You can’t even collect moons with cappy. Only coins, so you just need to find a way to physically touch it. Sure, the upward throw is useful when you want to jump high, but there are a little more challenging ways to jump high. Ground pound jump, throw cappy, hold Y, ground pound while in mid air, use that ground pound to ground pound jump again and jump on cappy. Really not hard to do, if you’re not that experienced of a gamer it will take getting used to but just give it a try. It’s not hard.
I absolutely love SuperMario Odyssey it has to be one of the best games I have played hands down. After all those years of wii mario games we've got the switch which gave us Mario Odyssey, for all of those people who get switches this is definitely a must get game for your first game!!!!
I thought nothing could top Galaxy. But THIS game is a must have. It is so much fun! I seriously laughed, I cried(nostalgic reasons) I smiled thru every level. It's a blast! And the music? I don't know if there's a better game. 10/10
DO THE ODYSSEY! swing your arms from side to side come on it's time to go DO THE ODYSSEY! Take one step and then again Come on it's time to go DO THE ODYSSEY!
The sad thing is that in my class 90% of people don't give a damn about anything Nintendo related, and just assume that they're worse than any Xbox One or PS4, which is a real shame.
People just don't like change, Nintendo games without a doubt are very different. Although by no means does that make them bad games or worse games. I'll be honest I had my doubts but it's one of those things that you really have to just try.
I loved this game its become one of my favourites of all time, i beat it a day after release since i didnt stop playing and even after completion ive been going for the final moons outfits, sculptures and stickers
This video was very pleasantly surprising. I had a lot of doubts about this game, mostly because I don't play many Mario games, I spent my whole childhood playing Zelda and Sonic waaaaayyy more; so I really only know Mario because of the Smash games, party, racing, & sports. My older brother has always been the first person I ask about games, but he recently moved out and took almost all of our video game consoles (we were very spoiled); he took the Nintendo 64, the Dreamcast, the Gamecube, one of our 2 Wii's, the WiiU, and our brand spankin' new Switch!! (I had gotten really far in Breath Of The Wild too ;-; ) So I was left with a Wii, a PS3 & a PS4. Since I don't have a bunch of the consoles I grew up with anymore, now I have a bunch of games that my brother apparently considered "my" games -even though we've always shared them- and most are WiiU games which I can't play on the Wii. My mom ended up getting me my own Switch (the Splattoon 2 edition), and I currently have a *brand new* copy of Breath Of The Wild, which I'm sadly lacking in motivation to play since all my saved data is gone, alongside Mario Kart 8, and Splattoon 2. Yesterday my mom told me to make a wishlist for Christmas, so I'm trying to find games that I'd like to play for the PS3/4, the Gamecube (since its games are compatible with the Wii), the Wii, and/or the Switch, and I just now found these "Before You Buy" videos. I watched the one for RIME, Sonic Forces, Sonic Mania, and now Super Mario Odyssey. RIME seems OK, but not my first choice if I could only pick one, Sonic Forces seems pretty cool, it's more familiar to me, but the lack of personality in the characters + how some of the gameplay is side scrolling was a bit disappointing, Sonic Mania sounds pretty cool too, but I've always liked the 3D Sonic games more, with the exception of the Sonic Advance series, which I love to death. Mario Odyssey on the other hand looks fucking awesome and I think it even evicts some nostalgia which I wasn't expecting; some of the gameplay in this video reminded me of the Sonic Adventure games and Sonic Heroes, with the icing of Mario Kart + Mario Party games. Now I'm super excited to play it, and while I'm still going to explore further, this helped me a lot. Thanks!
The motion controls aren't that bad. You can get them to work fine on a controller, it's just that it takes a little adjusting. Practice a bit and you're set. Having said that, I can't stop smiling while I play this game. It's soooo much fun!
I bought my Switch with the Mario Odyssey bundle. I haven't played a Mario game since my Nintendo DS lite when I was younger. In the beginning it felt really difficult but now I really enjoy it! My siblings also like watching when I'm playing and the multiplayer option is a BIG plus. I really recommend this game! I have already so many hours in this game and I still haven't finished it because there is SO MUCH to find every world.
Is it not obvious my friends? The game play is based on NIntendo's 1998 release on the Nintendo 64 game called, Space Station Silicon Valley. Anyone who is old enough to know what I'm talking about can relate. The cappy character in Odyssey is just like the chips ability in Silicon valley to take the form of what it is in. It's just got jazzed up graphics and more things to do. I'm just writing this to say what it is. I am not partial. It is a great game theme as it adds to the amount you can do and does not limit the game play only to Mario. It is a genius concept although it's been done before on the Nintendo 64. A lot of young kid's wouldn't know what I'm talking about because they are so young. They only are exposed to what is now. They can't know what happened in the 90's as most generation X kids are born in the late 90's to early 2000's. This concept has been done before and it is just another example of a company capitalizing on it's previous success. It's the winning formula. I have another example from Nintendo capitalizing on it's success if you want to know more. It's just a recycle with better graphics. I like it!
Many people hate and say Mario is a kid franchise and what not, but many of us were playing these games before any of these people hating were even born. We would play on systems like the GameCube, N64, and so on. The franchise was and still is one the Nintendo’s most noticed and strong franchises to date.
Love the game as well! Like you, the motion controls are the only thing that bothers me. Having to use them doesn’t bother me necessarily, but the consistency / finikyness of when they decide to work or not is a hassle.
The motion shit needs a patch imo. I play with the Pro controller and it sucks knowing I'm at a disadvantage because I think it feels extremely weird playing with detached Joy-cons.
I like the motion but I agree with you. I bought a pro controller and it feels sort of weird trying to do the attack where the hat spins around you and hits all surrounding enemies. That being said, I also really appreciate that Nintendo made Super Mario Odyssey great for those who use regularly use joycons due to not having a pro controller or something
What are you guys talking about? The spinning cap is so much easier with the pro controller for me. You just flick the controller to the side and that’s it, no need to try to time your hand movements perfectly with the damn joycons in each hand
