Is Nintendo's first Mario game on the Switch worth the wait, or is Mario better off if he stayed missing? Find out in our GameSpot review! Read Peter's in-depth review at GameSpot.com! www.gamespot.c...
Ahmed Faraz Not made by the same company. Plus I never said that Mario or Zelda will win I just said they are going to compete against each other for GOTY
As much as people love to take jabs at Nintendo, the gaming industry NEEDS Nintendo to show other companies that you can create great gaming experiences without all that crap. So glad I have a Switch.
Iggsy81 Is that either a microtransaction or day one DLC? Nope, besides, that's only a feature included in a DLC pack with far more content than hard mode.
amen, I mean I don't even think other devs realize how far behind they are. It's like Nintendo is this other worldly thing that pops out fantastically polished stuff. It's like when we look at competition we just don't even think about Nintendo because they're Nintendo.
That’s a fact and it’s cuz Nintendo has always been an innovator and they always “marched to the beat of their own drum” instead of following the trends set by other developers or companies and for that they have my upmost respect.
The Law There is no shame. I had a Gameboy and an Atari Lynx. I’m talking about having console level games in transit. That’s one of Nintendo’s biggest marketing messages for the console. And rightly so.
Mike Hasler Maybe I travel more than your friends. And maybe Tetris didn’t give me 50 Plus hours of gameplay (or 120 Plus for Zelda as it stands) which takes away more time than it did in the 90s.
emersonssbb tell me another game dude....coz I can tell a tons of Nintendo games with 10s and they were all not masterpiece dude....its just paid shitty reviews....
People still can't seem to accept that Nintendo are actually good (for the most part) at making games and reviews of their games are not simply biased?
Its like they forget the great games they have made in the past. When Nintendo makes bad games the reviews show it, but when they make great games, oh they are so great (Mario Galaxy 1 and 2
Jelani Dacosta Best They are good at making games. But the reviews on the BOTW majority are biased. Almost every reviewer based it on "nostalgia" vibes and ignored majority of its issues and weaknesses. The few who actually made note of those are the ones who scored it 7-8s. However, Odyssey really looks like a masterpiece with its abundance of fun, unique and diverse gameplay. So far havent seen anyone used that "nostalgia" bs again to score Odyssey.
You must admit their is some bias towards Japanese games. Games like Witcher 3 have the same rating as MGS5. Pokemon games are clones yet they always get good scores.
Tselel Leb I agree botw was average imho and I found it quite underwhelming. Played like a ubisoft open world for me and hate them games, reason why I didn't like horizon either. But these mario game looks brilliant, can't wait to play it
Joshua Hernandez Two of Nintendo biggest Franchise at the first year of switch.. That is really Awesome. And then there are a varied of other titles to fill the gap.
Junior Duperval plenty of games have already done that....christ people act as if nintendo is some holy savior. They arent any better than the rest of them
No micro transactions, fully finished and polished game on release and no day 1 DLC, I would call that being better than the rest of them, the rest of them being EA, Ubisoft and Activision that is.
ollierkul how about comparing with another japanese developers instead of those shitty american developers? A pot of other games provide fun SP with no microtransaction, nintendo is not the first and definitly not the only one
this has to be the first time gamespot has dropped three 10 scores in a year. not handed out lightly at gamespot. what a phenomenal year for gaming! :)
And we still haven't seen what metroid, Pokemon, and smash has in store for us yet. Hell monolithsoft has been showing off some concept art for a new medieval style game for the switch and XC2 hasn't even seen retailer shelves yet. I haven't been this exited for a system since the N64 era.
A lonesome travler there’s also retro who has been super quiet and metroid is not even under them so possibly a Donkey Kong game, Pikmin 4 that has been rumored to have been in the works for a while as well as the new mainline fire emblem game announced coming out next year... it’s a lot
As someone that has been gaming for about 20 years and has pretty much played all the 2d and 3d Mario games, this is hands down the greatest 3D Mario game of all time. I thought I would never see a game beat 64 but it has. 10/10 Masterpiece.
Wow u make me want to play this asap! I only recently got a Switch and tbh moneys tight I cant afford many games so I'm looking as to which game to opt for? I've played 64 and Sunshine in the past Sunshine is my favourite 3D platform game ever and I'm hoping Odyssey is anywhere near as good, ur very impressed with it then that's for sure:)
@@markwheeler4245 it's a love letter to all the 3d Mario games and even 2d games that came before. I hope you love it when you get the chance. Glad I was able to help 😁
Galaxy is not comparable to Mario 64 due to it's much more linear progression and lack of movement options. This person very clearly prefers Mario 64's gameplay and style.
I just started the Galaxy games with the second installment. I made it to world 4 so far while collecting just about everything (save for the mischievous comet stars I haven't gotten access to yet). I am enjoying the game, but it certainly doesn't hold my attention like SM64 or Sunshine (SMS is a but underwhelming due to lack of courses). Galaxy feels a bit too restrictive to be compared to sandbox Mario games. Lastly, while Galaxy 2 does have a fun challenge at times, it's a very easy game. Not necessarily a mark against it, but rather to those who found enormous difficulty with it. I started with two as people said it was harder.
Shoo hoo Galaxy not being sandbox has nothing to do with the fact that it's better than 64. That game aged like shit. You give it way too much credit lol
I haven’t owned a Nintendo console since the game cube. But I have to admit NINTENDO IS KICKING EVERYONES ASS. It’s so exciting to see a games company IMPROVE AND EXPAND on IPs with love. I’m going to support this with my money and get a Switch
Okay so let's look at the exclusives all launched in the first year on this baby. Breath of the Wild, SnipperClips, Splatoon 2, Mario Kart 8 Deluxe, Pokken DX, Fire Emblem Warriors, Mario Odyssey, and Xenoblade 2. That's 7 stellar exclusives in the first year. Now let's look at PS4. Knack, Killzone Shadowfall, Driveclub, Resogun and Infamous Second Son. I don't recollect anything else and that is me being generous giving PlayStation the launch and the following year. Nintendo has stepped up their game significantly and next year is going to be insane. Not to mention in Switches first year it's already passing 200 games on the system in just 6 months and people are saying there are no games without realizing in the same span of time other consoles would have added maybe 100 titles.
Only two of '7 Stellar Games' you had mentioned are actually really good. But still i have to hand it to you, Switch had a better start than Playstation, but lets how the console does in the long run.
Juls Token well if you were paying ATTENTION In the beginning of the video it clearly says, may contain spoilers, so i don't know what to tell ya. they did their part to warn you.
MARRO1190 Of course it at contain spoilers. Showing any footage is technically spoilers. But not an actual showing of getting a hidden moon. It still is odd to show something like that. They review could have just mentioned that some secrets require things like changing perspectives while showing random a gameplay clip.
It is definitely a fantastic game, and a 10 out of 10 title. But compared to Galaxy One and Two, (especially combined) Odyssey sort of bleaks in comparison, I miss the imaginative innovation, variety and amazing inventiveness that the Galaxy games constantly threw at you. So many concepts and segments of the games could basically work as ground concepts for entire games themselves. Odyssey puts way too much emphasize on more slow paced exploration (which works better in something like a Zelda title), and too little on fast paced action packed platforming, with inventive level-designs - also the game really doesn't challenge seasoned players in the way that other 3D Mario titles do in their harder levels, basically only the last "500-moon-level" gives you this feeling , where your reflexes, reactions and pattern-recognition really is tested- the Galaxy games had tons of levels and challenges like this. Just running around in some large open map, and talking to a random NP for a moon, or finding one in some corner of a level, feels more like padding the game out, more than clever 3D-platformer level design, or challenging gameplay. Plus I missed the classic Mario levels, like the haunted houses, the airship armadas and Bowsers castles (instead of just this single samurai-inspired one), those are all ways some of the best and most clever levels. Again, the game is awesome, and probably has the best controls of any 3D Mario game, but when you know Nintendo can create so flawless masterpieces, as Galaxy One and Two, Odyssey still left me a LITTLE disappointed. But I'll just have to keep my fingers crossed that we'll see a Galaxy1/2 HD remaster on the Switch.
I've never been this excited for a mario game since mario sunshine, ever since they announced it I got so excited because it looked AWESOME. I have been just smiling even before the video started.
Great, awesome review!! You explained the theme, appeal, & spirit of the game perfectly while really defining what the character "cappy" does, highlighting all of his tricks and abilities!! Well presented and You sold me!
Ron Daniels Have fun with your reskinned Assassins Creed 2 and microtransactions. I'd say consumers that purchase games like you are the problem with the industry.
Never piss off Nintendo fans. Kudos giving this a 10. Anything less would have warranted downvotes, death threats, pissed off comments, etc... even if those people never played it.
after finishing the story and getting all the costumes, it becomes kinda boring trying to find other moons and i wish that was better. Mario 64 had a bunch of paintings which had different places. This is just a bunch of worlds of which some we've seen before so it doesn't seem new. Overall, I like the game, but don't love it.
I hate gimmicky motion controls, but aside from that, it looks like a stellar game. But this isn't surprising, as Nintendo never makes a bad Mario or Zelda launch title.
Brendan Griffith oh boy, you should DEFINITELY invest in a switch. This and BotW are probably the 2 best games that came out this year, and both will eat up so much of your time with the sheer amount t of content they have, you don't have to worry about not having enough to play. Add MK8D and Splatoon 2, as well as some small indie games, and you're set for another 12 months.
same here, i want new mario so bad but i will not buy console for one (plus metroid when it comes out) g ame. Yea its only one year ( or should i say it is its 1st year) but compare number of ames after 1 year on ps4 (had no problem to justify purchase, cant speak bout x1 since i dont own it and do not want to own it atm )
Diablos Monster no doubt i love bloodborne horizon zero dawn yakuza n others but really after playing botw on my cousins switch i fell in love with it and now so many more games the switch is becoming my fav
youngdefiant you are such a hypocrite you say you hate Nintendo games because they have a more cartoony aesthetic yet you love the crash bandicoot remakes
"Two absolutely stunning first party games on the Switch, let's pit them against each other and run one down for having a single point difference in the Metacritic score."
So I gotta ask, does the feature of possessing other beings With cappy get abused too much throughout the game? Or do you not have to use it all the time?
