I was 13 years old when my parents were nice enough to get me an N64 and Super Mario 64 for Christmas 1996. I remember playing that game for the first time and being blown away by the fact that that was the sequel to Super Mario World and what a leap forward it was. This game has brought back that feeling. I'm a big fan of the Galaxy games but I missed the sandbox style that 64 and Sunshine provided. This is a great mix of both styles.
I love when a new big Nintendo game is released, but do you know what is the icing on the cake for me? When Wood does a review for it. The skits are one of the best bits so keep them up! Mamma-mia, you're Number One!(ha-ha!)
Pikselin Poikanen I don't like so much about old marios either. I mean posses an enemy seems much better an natural than an ability just puts there by the game designers, and Kirby may have a better future if Mario gives up his transform ability...
The openness of the worlds alongside the controls and moves. Not necessarily the hat mechanic. I think this type of design is the best thing for 3D Mario games. Almost like an open world game. I’d love for them to add a metroidvania type of hub world kinda like dark souls, that connects to the different kingdoms. That could be something special.
dynamickirby Actually according to what Nintendo said in Japanese, open world is a mistranslation. But there is no that kind of word in English. How do I say... Sand garden? That's what they actually said in Japanese if I have to translate it. And that's a quite familiar type of game in Japan but not in western. It is different to open world and sand box. And I don't think Mario has to be sth like Dark Souls, but it is a good idea if they return the homeland feature in Mario 64 and galaxy 1 tho...
To be fair, you can play the game without using the motion control moves. They're more like advanced techniques, the game is still very playable without them. On the other hand two of the face buttons are just copies of the jump and throw button. It isn't that hard to map those moves to those buttons.
That's what I was thinking. I'm used to using Y and B since the SNES standardized those buttons for the main actions in most games, so why can't X or A be assigned to do the cap spin?
I think, after beating Odyssey, I would of liked 2 more fair-sized Kingdoms. The length would of been ideal for me. I beat this in 12 or so hours, but I felt that there were not enough fair-sized Kingdoms like New Donk City or the Cascade Kingdom. Some were really small. BTW, the ending still makes me smile. It was so refreshing and I love replaying it over and over!! So. Dang. Epic.
I have been watching a HUGE amount of NINTENDO SWITCH videos while waiting for my own to get delivered. But you are the BEST OF THEM ALL. Keep up the good work
Yeah in all honesty, before this game came out, I felt like the Mario series hit its peak with Galaxy and Galaxy 2 with 3D Land and Word just not being super exciting. Then it happened, Super Mario Odyssey came and brought back Super Mario 64, Sunshine, and Galaxy standards don’t that 3D Mario can be good again with freedom and living the game through our hands.
This is a great game. I beat the game but still can not sit it down. I have a lot of games for my consoles that I need to play and this game has destroyed chances of me completing them for a while. The crazy thing is I am not a 100 percentage person in game. It is just this game has so much charm and is so addictive. I have not felt that way in a long time about a game.
It made me happy and giddy, so it is a 10/10 for me. I am still exploring it, searching every nook and cranny, feeling ecstatic for the local coins and power moons I find.
@@thereallemonhead1356 i had credit at GameStop. if they were selling it new for $2 more id still get it used. $2 is $2. plus if i don't like it i can return it.
I haven't been able to play much because it's midterm week at my college, I have practice, and I do homework allllll weekend. But what I have played so far I love 😭I finally have time today to play it after this video. I love the music too ❤️
I was afraid the hype was gonna kill it for me. Basically I was afraid of my expectations being way too high, but it was fun. It took me like 20 hours across 4 days. So much fun
Imagine playing a game like this without getting dizzy and motion sick. I am a big gamer fan, I have the switch and PS4... but I get so traumatised thinking about wanting to play and actually sitting down and playing because I get dizzy from it and motion sick and I LOVE gaming! Anyone knowing anything how to avoid me feeling like this? It literally happens everytime no matter what I play... it crushes my world because I am such a video game fan
I personally prefer sunshine but only barely (I loved sunshine a ton btw) and if this just felt more connected between each location it would easily be my favorite Mario game
My let down is having the game but having to wait until Xmas to play. My son wanted it for Xmas so....I have to wait :-( That's okay there is sonic in a few days that I can play to hold me over...lol
@Beatemups and @Billy- Great edit you guys 😹😹😹 I also agree with you ❤️❤️❤️☺️💪🏽✌🏽✌🏽✌🏽 I felt like a kid on Christmas and back to playing some Mario 64 and Galaxy 1&2 in one 😸😸😂🤘🏽🤘🏽🤘🏽 Nintendo did a great job 😎😎💪🏽💪🏽💪🏽
Idk... the thing that puts me off about this is the city area... Mario being in city where there are humans just doesnt fit... idk why it just doesn't seem right! Like at all! When i think of mario i think about goofy bouncy characters/places xD not realistic humans/places...
Super Mario Odyssey is a great game and experience. Probably the best game on Switch after Breath of the Wild. But I think there are a few mistakes Nintendo did with Odyssey. I don't like that I'm more or less forced to use motion controls. Some things can't be pulled off otherwise. Like climbing faster to reach a moon that would dissappear otherwise. And I absolutely hate that message that urges me to use motion controls every time I start the game. And lastly the game feels way to short. There's an insane amount of post game but after finishing the main journey, the initial wonder starts to fade way too fast. Other than that, I'll probably spend quite some time with it in the future.
I really don’t know if anyone has told you. But I’ve been wanting to tell you since the first day I subscribed. Something I think you should be top RU-vidr for. Something that keeps everyone coming back for more. Something that people love about you and your channel....You have nice hair. It’s Like a flowing field of wheat. It’s coolz
Nintendo needs to take more creative risks by giving characters other than Mario and Link their own games. Or create new characters within the lore of these established games to have their own game.
You and Billy are making great vids since living together. You are good for each other and a good team. BTW can you do a video explaining how you managed to move to America?
I see you used the amiibo i gave you lol did you get the costume from it? Lol the song in new donk city gave me the same feeling what a great part! I loved this game so much!
Ok old video but in my opinion not only was odyssey worth buying, it was also worth buying a switch just for it, ok i wanted Zelda too but after playing them mario odyssey alone made the switch worth buying. Zelda I like but took a break from it and forgot what I was going to do and its a bit too open when you forget some of the mechanics, then didn't really got into it again, odyssey I took a break from aswell but it was super easy to get back into.
my favourite game of all time was super mario galaxy 1 and 2, so i was expecting a lot more worlds which kinda disappointed me. and yes it was kinda short and easy to complete. i wish the amount of moons you needed to collect in each world before being able to continue were much bigger and wouldve made unlocking a new kingdom much more satisfying
I played this with my best friend in college when we had free time along with smash bros and Mario kart. Sadly I graduated and haven’t played Mario Odyssey since I wanna finish it with her. Great game!
I may be the 1% who owns a switch but doesn't have Mario Odyssey yet, ( I ignore hype trains, unless its Zelda☝🏼) and I absolutely loved this review😂🤣😂 Waited for your opinion but now I know, its a must buy!
ignore reviews, stop watching/reading them and just play it. i'm glad i didn't look at any reviews or gameplay before playing it... i think i would be underwhelmed by the game if i saw the reviews first and then bought it.
Tassie boy here Wood, new sub, Best of luck over there man must be scary making a move like that, you've got bigger balls than me, plus i just couldn't stand that hot af weather. Peace.
Love the originality! and the honesty, Had doubts about it myself. Personally I had more of a special time with Zelda with about 200 hours. But, Odyssey is still amazing!
Honestly i really didnt like this game - i feel like nothing about it is special, capturing is super dumb because it limits the moves u can perform and the rest of cappy is just a glorified boomerang powerup. Collecting all these moons just feels shalow and not very fun since u can eighter do very hard chalanges or just walk auround the corner. This difference in difficulties makes collecting a majority of the moons not intresting. Also its very sad to me that this game was so overhyped and everyone was giving it a 10/10 instead of the 7/10 that it is, all that brought my hopes up that this might be as fun as a mario galaxy game but it doesnt even come close to galaxy 1&2. I want to say that everyone can have their own opinon and if this is your fav game, good for you - I just want to prevent people thinking this game is even remotly as fun or good as botW - because thats what many people were saying and that basicly killed this game for me. For 3 years now ive been trying to convince myself that i like this game, but when i think about it I prefer ever other 3d mario game over this one... (even sunshine because that game had an identity this game cant even decide if its a sandboxgame or not, at the end u basicly just do everthing again)
Hey there, could you please make a "best local multiplayer games" for the switch? Since local multiplayer is one of the things the switch really shines at I would really enjoy a top 10 of you for that category. Great video btw :)
Over 7 million Switches, 2 million copies of Mario in 3 days. If this trend continues roughly 3.3 million copies of Odyssey would be sold right now. Your math is off. Realistically, though, it won't continue to sell this fast. That's right, I'm being that guy right now.
I feel that I may be the only person who has played this and doesn't think is amazing. It was a fun little jaunt but to talk about it like it's some legendary game just doesn't seem fair to me. I think I'll have to try it again in an attempt to understand what I am missing.
