A game developer had no knowledge of a then 23 year old character that had starred in dozens of high profile games and made billions in merchandising. Yeah, okay, that checks out.
Thats because it is simple to make Games nowadays. There are Tools to make 3D Games, you just have to put Assets together, it is like Lego. Look at the Animations and Clipping Errors, how Yoshi shoots the Fireballs, he just bought ready to use Assets and used some Engine.
Another reason it's unlikely is because the model is so counter to the aesthetic of that game--i could believe it much more if the game looked cartoony and he had, like he said, "wanted to use a cute dinosaur character" that matched the theming But as is it looks hideous, so why bother?
Imagine being a game developer and not knowing one of the most recognizable character in the industry. Even my ex knows what Yoshi is and she never played a game in her life.
He just wanted a similar model, because he liked the character Yoshi, but since he isnt a fan of Super Mario, he again commited the error of making a similar character, in this case, Boshi from SMRPG
My fav part of it was when he acted like the game was some dedicated labor of love when it’s obviously a shitty asset flip game made to make a quick buck.
Anthony Rubel but the guy was making a game. It is one thing if a person who doesn’t play games doesn’t know Yoshi that is totally believable but if you are making a game and you having no knowledge of him is unbelievable.
@@jdb2002 So he didn't know who yoshi was but used a pretty near close model, named it "boshi", and is also a game developer....that doesn't really check out. I'm thinking he said this for legal reasons possibly.

Considering the popularity of the Mario series, you'd have to actively avoid having anything to do with Nintendo to not even slightly recognizing this character. Like if I took a picture of Yoshi, and showed a bunch of elderly people (Some of the least likely people to even play games), a good amount of them could probably at least trace it back to Nintendo.

So the deal with the translator of the Mario encyclopedia is that he’s a super nice guy irl and is a huge fan of a bunch of other franchises. The reason he “took” the names was because he had experienced official translations of other books/games call characters other names than what the fans were used to, causing divide in the fandom. In order to avoid this, he tried to make the fans happy and use the names that they’re ere familiar with. He’s actually very talented and has won many translation awards as well as written some original books that I liked a lot Edit: Probably should explain this better. He took names from the wiki because he thought that those were the names that the fans were the most comfortable with
I'm glad in this video you guys covered Giana Sisters, it doesn't get enough appreciation and it's one of my favorite series also being one of my favorite DS games I'll continue to come back to :)
That Yoshi game is 100% an asset flip. I recognise some of the assets (including the camera) from one of Digital Homicide's games, and they were KNOWN for asset flips.
For over a decade I wondered about the eggman level. I thought data got corrupted when during the process of burning the disc and I was the only who saw it.

Even if you don't like Mario, for some unexplained reason, there's no way in hell you don't know the bigger Mario characters. They're synonymous with gaming.
There's a supermarket in my city called Lino that uses Mario as their mascot. They have Mario everywhere, on the plastic bags and on the side of the building as a giant painting. This is in Balneário Rincão, State of Santa Catarina, Brazil.

Gee, at least id software was more respectful to Nintendo when their SMB3 proposal was rejected and they went to work on Commander Keen from their experience.
I was sad hearing that Nintendo even went after Giana Sisters 2, it looked like a fun Mario inspired game, with notably different gameplay compared to all the bootleg ones that thrived. So it was a pleasant surprise to see it come back, with a look incredibly similar to that first game, and do well. That was a brave move, and it looks like a neat game series. But I am shocked that I have never ever heard of them before.
I'm glad this got put back up, I was worried when it disappeared in the middle of my watching it yesterday. Makes sense the audio glitch was the reason, so undying gratitude for fixing it so quickly!

We had the Red Sector cracked version of Great Giana Sisters for Amiga when I was a kid. Sometimes I would boot it up just to sit and listen to the music. Eventually I just ran the audio into my boom box and put it and other games' music together in a mixtape. Good times. :)
i love how one of the first clips you showed in the previews is legit just Super Mario Galaxy but Yoshi like all these copies they barely even changed icons like the health icon, its different but not by much

I know if you google image search 'rose gold phone wallpaper', one of the images there is the same one they use for the Abstract Wall in Animal Crossing: New Horizons. It's been there well before the game's release. Though I'm unsure if it's a stock image and they just bought the rights to it. There's also a Grocery/Farmers Market Barbie playset featuring a milk carton with a Harvest Moon/Story of Seasons cow head printed on it.

If that thing with Eggman happened while I was playing, I would just assume it was a normal glitch. That kind of thing happens all the time in 3D Sonic games.
Hey, so after the tiger Wario segment the audio is the same and I gotta say I miss the audio getting quiet. It kinda grew on me. Like a Easter egg you guys left for us.
I'll admit, no matter how small a chance, there is always the probability that someone has not heard of something that is insanely popular all around the world, but that guy with the Yoshi ripoff just sounds a bit too suspect. Especially since he's a video game developer. Just seems a little too odd that someone like him wouldn't know who Yoshi is.
I had like 10 illegal copies of the DC version of SA2, not once did I encounter that so-called anti-piracy measur, however, it was confirmed to be possible to accidentally re-write a part the data in the game via a glitch or something and cause it to permanently behave differently, which what I believe is what happened here, it even happened to me in one of the copies, and yes it’s permanent.
Wasn't The Great Giana Sistersa intended to be a port of Super Mario Bros to the C64 and Rainbow Arts just released it as their own game when Nintendo refused to licence the characters?

Nintendo actually made Doki-Doki Panic in collabuation with Fuji TV, the Super Mario Bros 2 we got in the US was not a rip off, nor is Doki-Doki Panic.
