"Miyamoto wanted to ditch Mario's "just for kids" image by cutting out his peace sign and stop his laughing, and put an ad in a Playboy magazine." Mario: "Where's that DAMN fourth power star?"
Miyamoto: We can not have Mario doing his iconic peace sign, this game is for MEN!!! Also Miyamoto: Let's not have these deep and complex themes and stories. We need to make it kId frIeNdLy.
Some patents like that are still around. In the PS3/360/Wii console generation a company (I believe Capcom) had a patent on minigames on loading screens, so very few if any games during that time had them.
Right? I always thought that those SM64 slopes which you slide down on were horribly lazy design. I remember doing the same thing first time I played as a kid. "What? That's literally barely a slope, I could walk up something twice that steep in real life, this is dumb."
@@YourStarboi If only Americans would think their kids have a low IQ? Should they base that off how they play video games, too? How would that make the world a better place?
I know that "I read playboy for the articles" was already a meme 50 years ago, but the journalism of Playboy was as top notch as the most refined and high quality publications. They had serious investigative journalism, and snagged countless high profile interviews with celebrities, politicians, and public figures that few other publications could get.
After speaking constantly for 12 minutes Seth returns to normal when promoting his own channel back simply saying "I am Seth Everman". It's funny because that is the most Seth Everman-y way to do it
julianx2rl Miyamoto had a red hat as a child, and being full of beans at the time, frequently ran around and jumped up in the air. He then went on to produce Mario 64
Every game has that feeling when you play it as a kid, tbh At least the older games, where the design is simple enough that your mind can focus on imagining what's beyond those closed doors
@@wille.2215 I always thought you could somehow fly into the mouth of the volcano on DK mountain. I have distinct memories of it, but it isn't actually possible
Remember ocarina's time mechanic came from him realizing that he could now cross a small river as an adult that he couldn't as a child He finds inspiration for anything everywhere
Nintendo at the start of developement: *We don't have a controller we just have mouse & keyboard and we dunno how to test!* PJ64 users with no Joystick: *Allow us to introduce ourselves*
I played (and 100%'d) the SM64 PC port with just mouse and keyboard because I didn't have a controller to hook up to my PC. It was pretty fun; the only annoying part was having to remember exactly which key did what.
I've never heard Seth Everman speak, and thus was under the impression his sole way of communicating was via exaggerated facial expressions and piano playing. Needless to say this was jarring in a very good way lol
"The entire game was made by just 15 people, and afterwards 2 of them were so burnt out they quit programming, and never worked on another video game ever again." Mario 64 creepypasta enthusiasts: "Was that really the reason they quit? Or was it something...more sinister?!"
Thanks for the mention DYKG and awesome job on the video, I appreciate the support! I'd also like to mention other cool people who made texture discoveries @PokeHeadroom @Leonard85026417 @jycompany_ @pm_pik @TPlanet66 @ecumber05 They all contributed to preserving the history of SM64 in some form and I'd like to thank them for it. The SM64 community is an awesome one.
See, this is why I fucking hate video games, because they like, it appeals to the male fantasy. ---------------------------- If we take Mario's position in this specific spot into account, we can see that the Y Axis is exactly 69 counts higher than the Z axis, which we will use to propel Mario higher up this here pillar then should be possible.
Virtual Racing possibly? It had the option to change camera on the cabinet but then again it came out in 1992 so it wouldn't have been a recent development.
I like how for the ending promotions most people on this series do, he just said "I'm Seth Everman" That's literally the most Seth Everman thing he could have said
Considering the "Miyamoto got inspiration for Pikmin by watching ants in his garden" was purely manufactured by marketing, I forever have a hard time believing stories of what Miyamoto was "inspired by" now
This reminds me of that guy who thought he had the rights for the word “Edge” for use in any videogame related media and eventually got put on his place by EA’s lawyers, of all people
That was the perfect musical clip to put in the intro. That watch sounded…interesting… 2:11 That's kinda crazy oRIgin …the ending music stopped at a nice place too.
I really hope Mario 64 gets ported to the switch. It'd be a good opportunity to use some of that cut content, considering a big mario anniversary is coming up!
@@Max25670 But Also Has Better Stuff, If a New Mario 64 Remake Was Made, It Might Never Be As "wow" Like As 64DS, They Made That Remake All Work On The DS And On The DS's Release Day As Well, Great! Plus It Might Not Have Some Content That The DS Remake Had Like The New Level's The Unlockables, etc.
"Miyamoto wanted to ditch Mario's "just for kids" image by cutting out his peace sign and stop his laughing, and put an ad in a Playboy magazine." That explains Super Mario Odyssey having shirtless Mario and eventually Peach in a bikini.
Geez... That is the exact reason why I love the Mario series... because the character is laughing, smiling and all around (almost) always happy... also, because he IS my childhood literally lol
Miyamoto is such a weird guy to be inspired by and provoke inspiration by the weirdest things. -Inspiration for the game that thrust gaming into the third dimension? Watching his hamster scurry about. -Inspiration for one of gamings most well recognized and celebrated high-fantasy franchises? Just explorin' around the hills of his hometown. -Inspiration for innovative multi-visor technology in Metroid Prime? "What if Samus had a bug's head lol"
