Yes, you need to pick and hold him - feed him and he will grow into a full grown Yoshi.

@@BasileousProductions oh yup i figured it out lol i was using the wii remote and i couldnt run or pick stuff up. I changed over to the wii gamepad and it worked.

Green Switch palace in west side of Donut Plains Red Switch palace in vanilla dome

You can also just use Blue Yoshi to fly over (get the one from Star World 2).

You need to finish the switch palaces in correspondence to whateve color the boxes are (Green, blue, red, etc).
