@@pinksheep752 Yeah, you can. The jump feature is unlockable and can be enabled / disabled at any time in options, so it's your choice if you want to use it or not. In the competitive time attack modes jumping is permanently disabled.
@@glacierwolf2155not to mention the music. Banana Mania sounds like what you’d hear in a dance club. Meanwhile the classic music is so mysterious. Like you’ve reached the gates of heaven.
@@sonicANDtailsfan157k There's nothing they could've legally done about that. Dole was on the bananas back then because the game was sponsored and it's not anymore so they legally cannot include the Dole logo.
@@bprocrast I agree. It feels like something that you would get used to if you played the game a lot, but since I haven't, the constant ticking is very noticeable.
@Steve Dave After listening to both osts I would say I like the new one better. The underwater area and the washing machine area in the story mode are songs in the remake that I especially like. I generally think the game looks better for the most part and I like all of the new game modes. Most of the levels that they made easier have the original harder versions also in the game (unless if you're really upset that the goal was moved in monkey master, then there's nothing that can be done) so it isn't really a huge issue.
M1- Platforms move slower than before. M2- No Rainbow platforms. other than that, no further changes. M3- Moving platforms are wider M4- Rolling platform starts out extended and is fully recoiled once the player is in rather than having already start to extend when the player spawns. M5- No DOLE Logo. Other than that, no significant changes. M6- Playable area is smaller and moves faster M7- Starts facing goal up and turns before the player spawns so new players are aware which direction it turns. Maybe turn speed increased, but could be wrong. M8- Fewer moving blocks and blocks' speeds are reduced. Blocks are maybe wider (correct if wrong). M9- No real significant changes other than the connecting points are a little darker. M10- Goal placement is between the eyes rather than the top of his hair. Feel free to add or correct me if there is anything else.
Agreed, the ball is too slide-y and smooth. It makes levels like Conical Slider and Stamina Master harder to do with the added speed, I keep flinging myself off the slides.
That's because Sega lost the source code of the game, so the studio actually made the physics from scratch (it's really noticeable in one of the minigames, I forgot which one tho).
@@netako Rolled Out pretty much perfectly recreated the feel of the original two Super Monkey Ball games with a small team on a small budget. So, it isn't like Sega couldn't replicate the physics, they chose not to and were fine with the bare minimum of just functional, which is pretty sad and misunderstands the appeal of the original games completely.
@@awesomenate3058 Nothing do do with style, there's no reflections and the lighting is trash. I actually prefer the new character designs to the old ones and I still think this game looks worse in every way in a technical sense vs the original.
A few nit picks about the re master : the floor isn’t reflective/shiny enough in certain stages, I feel like the monkey is the one moving the ball, not the monkey trying to keep up with the moving ball because the stage is tilting them (i.e. when they start flipping all around the ball), the controls and accuracy aren’t even close to being the same, I don’t like how you phase through the stage instead of colliding with parts of the stage you already completed, I don’t like how you can’t see the next stage above you, I don’t like the absent ticking timer, and I HATE how the original OST is behind a paywall (still payed for it), no multiplayer in the main game?? Forreal?? Also Monkey Target is ass now. That’s all. Very grateful they chose to bring back the OG 2 games but hopefully they can make some changes with patches down the road. I’ve been a big fan of MB since I was a kid so yunno, I hold it to a high standard, especially since they messed the newer games up pretty bad.
I'm so mad about how they butchered monkey target. I'm a casual, so I don't really notice most other changes, (plus I haven't played deluxe since like 2011ish bc my disc doesn't work anymore :( ) but monkey target was my favorite party game as a kid and it was immediately noticable how bad the physics were.
Minor gripe with the classic characters, their capsules should have been green like how Sonic has a blue capsule and Tails has a yellow one. Missed opportunity, but oh well
Man, it's so sad how they made Master levels even easier, they throw away the concept of a Master level imo The worst ones are the dole and dodge master levels, they really slowed them down and it seems so meh now. Not to mention how the reflect was removed too...
As someone who was very decent at smb1 and 2, I'm glad you don't get lives and continues anymore because the physics and controls in the new one are....off. I'm somehow struggling in advance mode.
From one veteran to another, I’ve found that it’s because of the very floaty controls, it just doesn’t feel as responsive as on the Gamecube. I struggled to high hell on Exam-A of all stages, because of the very awkward controls
@@certifiedgamer3009 surprisingly, this isn't much of a problem in smb2. It's much noticeable in smb1 since a lot of the levels require very precise precision
I was so pissed when I found out that they we're getting rid of lives in Banana Mania. It felt like they got rid of any incentive to get better at the game in order to unlock the Master Stages. I have 100% completed both SMB and SMB2 recently in preparation for this new game. After playing the SMB beginner stages on Banana Mania and falling off Exam-A 15 times, I finally understood why getting rid of lives was an absolute necessity. The controls are so floaty and you constantly have to fight with the camera. I know it's a hot take, but even the botched Playstation 2 port of Super Monkey Ball Deluxe which has terrible controls and only runs at 30fps feels more responsive than Banana Mania.
Right? For me I think I've realized what it is. In the Originals even if you nudge the analogue stick a little bit, Aiai will still move in that direction immediately. For a beginner it can make the game feel twitchy, however it's responsive in that manner for you to be able to maneuver over the very thin strips. In Banana Mania, if you Nudge the analogue stick a tiny bit Aiai no longer moves in that direction only the camera until you hold further on the stick. It doesn't allow the micro corrections of the original and makes levels like Exam C a complete ball ache to play through.
Ikr. Tbh all the voice actors suck in the game. Like they don't sound like they're about to fall off something, they sound like they're either having a seizure, or speaking a different language
How long did it take you to adjust to the way the new game controls? I am STRUGGLE BUSSIN' with how the new game controls, especially on narrow paths and tight corners and the camera change. It's so hard to adapt to the new game and forget my muscle memory lol
Not sure why they felt the need to make master mode easier when they already have infinite lives :/ i like the change of not having lives since it encourages experimentation, but now that they made the levels easier it makes it feel sorta worthless. I was excited because i thought hey, i can finally do master without getting sent back to the very start of expert a hundred times, but now it's like i rather just save state on the original to get the real experience.
@@MightyReeN What you do is you line the camera perfectly and then just go for it with little thinking and very slight left and right and as soon as you reach the peak and start falling down, slow down. It's the goal shortcut I struggle with.
Literally everything about the original is better than the 'remake' except for the resolution. I suppose stuff like the different artstyle, music, and voices are technically subjective, but it's factual that the controls, physics, missing sound effects, and missing graphical effects are all objectively inferior in the remake. Damn shame. Not sure why they had to do a ground-up remake and just make it worse. Wouldn't a simple HD remaster of SMBDX have been easier to do? It's not like they couldn't have just added the newer features to it still - unless they lost the source code or something. Either way, the biggest shame is that now we'll certainly never get a true remaster of the original games.
Not quite? The stages aren't any harder, it's that you're just WAY faster in the remake. I think the devs talked about it, where with the increased tilt distance, you're about 20% faster?
You would not believe how mad I got playing Master 3 (Stamina Master) in Banana Mania when I did everything perfectly _right_ up until I missed the goal riding on the green slide because the camera wasn't pointing towards the goal and I couldn't see where it was until it was already too late
I was flabbergasted by how easy I found bridge master to be. Even on the original stage mode I beat it on my first try by doing skips. Maybe I should replay the GameCube version to see if I can do it consistently there too...
Just played on all worlds/environments, this is the one that got a downgrade... The rest of areas look better. (my fav in fact is Sky High - colors are *cheff kiss*)
@@_SereneMango After playing a bunch of the game and seeing every world, I do agree that plenty look better. On of my favorites is the Amusement Park. Just superb use of vibrant colors.
@@twincherries6698 there's a pretty good chance that they just don't have the original game files and code anymore. It was pretty common practice to just delete game files once that game was released because hard drive space was expensive as hell for way less space than is available today. They needed the space to develop the next game. Like for example, I remember buying a mid range 32 MB (yes, MB not GB) thumb drive in like 2004 or 2005 for 60 bucks, and the original monkey ball games were even older than that. It happened to the original Kingdom Hearts and Okami, which is why the Wii version of the latter is really wonky as they has to recreate a ton of stuff.
Wave Master: Bricks hitting each other with their fronts and backs Fan master: RAINBOW STAIRCASE :D (not in its remake tho) Stamina master: A thin mountain-shaped fence, Followed by a bunch of moving squares and then a vine spiral Spring master: The red carpet of victory… SORRY BRO YOU STILL GOT 6 MORE Dance master: Every monkey chillin until the dole logo splits into pieces and moves around a lot Roll master: Ballception Edge master: Hollow chunk of plastic that is rotating on poles I guess Dodge master: Dodgeball but with rainbow poles that slide along the ground, wait isn’t this air hockey? Balance master: AS SLOW AS POSSIBLE Monkey master: monke floor
Nerfing the master floors is kinda lame when the player already has infinite lives even with the fact they still exist in their unnerfed form. Now some of the master levels are just easy. Also was diagonals being faster even intended in the og games are just a weird quirk of the og game’s physics engine?
1- the game feels on drugs on mania (I mean, even more) 2- Why is the music diferent? That eco and seriousness was what gave he game that feel. 3- They changed the Legendary banana sound 4- Yoohooo? They were suppoused to laugh in happiness after beating the monstruosities they complete
Would you recommend buying banana mania or the og smb games first? I have a wii so I can play gc games, I just wondered which one would be a better experience overall for a beginner
I would personally start on the originals. Much cheaper and if you like them you can but Banana Mania later. Plus it's always nice to be able to say that Super Monkey Ball (2001) was your first Super Monkey Ball game. If you do play them on your Wii I highly recommend using component video cables (green, red, blue) if you are not already since it makes the games look significantly better. Monkey Ball 2 even runs in 480p and Widescreen, which helps it look surprisingly good 19 years later.
As much as I love the OG SMB1&2, I'd almost suggest BM because of the accessibility options. I to this day have still never made it to Master stages in SMB1 because beating all expert stages without a continue is beyond ridiculous.
If you care more about convenience, graphics and additional features then Banana Mania is the way to go. I think the game looks great and has some really fun extra game modes. It's also nice having SMB1, 2 and DX floors all in one place that isn't SMBDX, because the game sucks! A lot of hard levels from the original games were made easier in Banana Mania and lives / continues were removed entirely. It's definitely the go-to if you just care about beating all the levels without needing to get better at the game to be able to reach the later levels first. Just PLEASE bear in mind that Banana Mania does not play or control like the original games! In my opinion it controls very poorly comparatively, so don't let this smear your impression of what the original two games play like. As someone who has played both, I'd take SMB1&2 over Banana Mania any day of the week.
I would recommend the og games. They offer a good balance between easy and hard, and the controls are flawless with no flaws that I remember. If I ever messed up, I never blamed the game controls. You will love the og games.
I prefer the classic music. New music is too much. And why are you no longer facing the shrine when you start the stage? Master in the original has such a perfect atmosphere.
No more rainbow in Fan Master Remake The carpet one is call spring? And for the Dodge Master, why not Crayon? They change the goal post position in Monkey Master Remake. I hate the music in the remake
95% of these comments are all trashing on Banana Mania's master floors, the looks, the voices, the sound effects, the music & everything else. Like come on. Leave the game alone!
Goddamn the people making the remake are so lazy and tasteless. The original has excellent sound design and the graphics are so polished with the reflective surfaces and better animations. The remake is just so lazy with its sloppy physics and undercooked graphics. The music is so horrid and tasteless compared to the original. Why are they so allergic to just not making everything in the generic banana blitz style? NOBODY WANTS IT
Its obvious the game wasn't given a big budget go work with. I dont really blame them, because the series has been mistreated and they want to see if it could be a profitable franchise now.
I was thinking “woah this game looks awful, but thats probably just my dumbass nitpicky brain” and them i read the comments and was like “oh okay nevermind lmao” the lack of shadows, reflections, and the absolute mass amount of brightness really makes the game look like ass. Also someone said this game was made in unity, which ive used unity and can confirm adding reflections is fucking annoying, but cmon its not impossible.
You just see the difference. Banana Mania just can't live up to the original Super Monkey Ball. Starting with the game Super Monkey Ball deluxe, the rest of the Super Monkey Ball series is absolute crap.
Ikr!!!! That's the first thing I hated when I first bought it. Also, she sounds like a mf robot when she says "fall out." The original guy actually sounded like an announcer, but now it's just a female pretending to sound robotic
Maybe the problem isn't solely from Sega being an incompetent company, but also, its consumers being entitled as fuck I swear 100% if this thread is nothing but crying and complaining. It's disgusting
