In order to play Super PKR World you need to have Super Mario Maker 2 up to date as well as have access to Nintendo's online services.
It feels like an eternity since I put the fourty level behemoth that is Super PKR World together, but really, it has only been a few months. With that said, I really want to actually show off all that hard work since well, not very many people are actually going to end up trying the game, let alone finishing it.
Thus, a new journey is embarked upon doing a simple playthrough of the game with me yacking on about design philosophies this and secret that. I may end up repeating myself or rambling on occasion, but hopefully my attempts at communicating the activity of my head space from back in April through May of 2020 proves entertaining.
...For those who do give the Super World a shot uh... patience is key.

...and yes, I am aware the Intro says "earlier this year" instead of "last year"... the commentary was recorded over the course of two weeks, shhh!

Dang, Pink, this kind of gameplay & commentary content is just... real hit to the nostalgia. Missed seeing you post to RU-vid, so I really do appreciate you giving us this dev commentary. Hyped to see the rest of Super PKR World.

Mario 3’s stage design is probably my favorite too. They’re just jam packed with secrets for those willing to put in the time and get really good at the game

It’s always great when something semi-educational like Super Mario Maker 2 exists. I first cut my teeth into computer animation with FlipNote Studio when I got a Nintendo DSi for my 15th birthday, for instance. It was very limited, of course, but it was a great way to learn the animation process in baby steps so that I would be less overwhelmed in college when I was expected to master more sophisticated software like After Effects and Maya. And of course, anyone that has followed artists like Keke FlipNote is well aware that even the most limited “baby” programs can produce some fantastic stuff if the artist/programmer spends WAY too much of their free time creatively working around its limits. I wouldn’t be surprised to see PinkKittyRose making a developer commentary for a game she made in a “proper” engine like Unity eventually, now that she seems to have caught the level-design bug with SMM2.

It's really fascinating to hear your commentary on level design. It kind of reminds me of how, years back, you reviewed the level designs of Mario fan games, such as The Second Reality Project and A Super Mario Thing. Actually, I'm sort of curious: did your experiences with those fan games, among others, influence your own game design choices?

Putting more aesthetics into Fraudulent Fungi would have harmed the level since the more visual flair there is the harder it is for the player to comprehend the level visually, which can be really bad for puzzle/action combo levels like FF is.

I just couldn't get into Super Mario Maker when Lunar Magic exists. It's so limiting by comparison.

Some people need limits, self-imposed or otherwise, to avoid being overwhelmed and get something-anything-done in a reasonable amount of time. I imagine Super Mario Maker 2 is great for beginner Mario level designers while Lunar Magic is for advanced designers that have done everything they possibly could within the confines of Mario Maker 2.

Super Mario Maker 2 actually has a world map editor! It is very primitive, though... - Five levels max per world - Last stage is always either a castle or airship icon - Small, grid based system - Very few decorations per tile-set - Only eight total themes
