I can only hope that DK gets at LEAST one more character. It just wouldn't seem right to be left out while Kid Icarus and Fire Emblem get new characters. One more character this time and Zelda will reach 6 characters, but I think Mario has a little ways to go. Depending on what the final roster looks like for this game and who will be left to pick from when Smash 5 comes around, I don't imagine we'll see Mario get to 6 characters until the next game at the earliest. I wouldn't get my hopes up for Comic Con's "surprise." I doubt we'll get another newcomer after we JUST got 2 on Monday. A release date would be nice though. You're right about Sakurai though. Now I'm waiting for ALL of my predictions here to be wrong lol

Well, I don't think it's really accurate to say if Gematsu was fake or not because it has gotten so much of its information right. It's also gotten some info wrong. With some right and some wrong, it can't be entirely real or entirely fake. If anything, I think we should now be discussing if any more of the claims could be outdated.

I think the leak was a acurate at the time but sakurai did stated that he was planning on chrom but change his mind and decided on robin instead, so it was preaty accurate to me

Blue .Senpai Don't have anything to work off of? Their theme is music, they can do a lot with music like sound waves. They also have a lot of personality. There's a lot they can do with a rhythm based character. They can take elements from the entire Rhythm Heaven series, not just those characters.

I don't recall him ever saying that at all. All I know for sure is that Sakurai said they had no plans for DLC during development. They want to finish the game first and then possibly start thinking about it later down the road. But I don't remember Sakurai flat-out stating that he's for sure not doing DLC.

There is already proof that that is not true: Amiibo. Although it is For a lot of Nintendo games it is still payed extra content that can be used in Smash.

jago sharkey Amiibo isn't DLC though. Or at least, we don't know that for certain yet. We still know so very little about how Amiibo works. All we know is that the figures give you special version of a character in Smash that you can train, level-up, and personalize. We don't know how it works with unlocking characters or what additional features Amiibo will bring to Smash.

TheLegendaryBatNut Falco is the more popular StarFox character in Smash, he'll probably make it. Wolf is my favorite of the three, but is also the least popular of the three. Don't have a clue for a newcomer from the franchise, though.

I think Wario is a pretty safe bet considering he has two assist trophies revealed already and he was a unique character in Brawl. All that really remains to be seen is if he's going to be a starter again or moved to an unlockable.

I've always liked the idea of Mona in Smash using a moveset based on microgames like the paper plane, her animal buddies, and smacking around with her guitar. I don't think it's gonna happen sadly, but she would be awesome!

It's too early to just jump to any sort of conclusion about Ridley. If he is in fact a boss, why didn't Sakurai just show him off back in April when he had the chance? Why has Sakurai made so many nods towards size not being an issue in Smash Bros? Why would Sakurai leave us in the dark about this popular character for so long if there is no sort of pay-off? Everyone just seems so sure of themselves that being a boss is Ridley's fate when the character has never even been mentioned by name. I'm not trying to argue that he's playable. I'm saying it's still too early to tell what's going on with this character and I wish people would stop jumping to conclusions about him left and right.

Lucario was put in Brawl because his movie made him popular before 4th gen even started. Mewtwo was already a popular legendary and the only one at the time before Melee who could feasibly work as a character in Smash. His movie also was a big help. How do we know Pichu wasn't put in also because he could be easily made into a clone of Pikachu? There were quite a handful of clones in Melee. Jigglypuff was a gag character, sure. That ended up working in her favor. But she was also easy to copy from Kirby's model and moveset. There were other Pokemon considered for Smash before her though. Charizard has always been one of the most well-received Pokemon for 6 generations, not to mention his popularity in the anime. When the transformations were dropped after Brawl, it's not hard to see why Charizard was chosen, but if transformations were still possible, I think it's pretty safe to say he would've returned right alongside Squirtle and Ivysaur. Greninja is really the only Pokemon here that wasn't chosen because of popularity. He couldn't have been because he was picked long before Pokemon X and Y came out. Sakurai only picked him after seeing some concept art and he got lucky that Greninja ultimately went on to become one of the most popular 6th gen Pokemon to be used, especially in competitive play. But he wasn't chosen because of his popularity. That came later.

brawlmaster012 Don't know how to reply to that. :P And of course I knew Mewtwo and Charizard were popular. They got shoved in my face whenever I play a wi-fi match on X and Y... over and over and over. I knew the Lucario movie was before the 4th gen, he'd still be popular, though.

Looking at fire emblem compared to donkey kong or metroid, so far it has double the number of characters compared to those yet they are more popular and like you've said pkmn had 6 reps, mario had 4 in brawl, so although it's different to the topic im commenting on, popularity doesn't seem to matter that much as far as characters are concerned.

Kore Smash Bros Popularity actually means quite a lot for Pokemon characters because unlike other franchises like Mario or Zelda, Pokemon doesn't have a main character like Mario or Link. In fact, I'm pretty sure that Sakurai picks Pokemon based on the movies and which ones are most popular at the time he's deciding a roster. This would line up perfectly with Lucario's inclusion in Brawl.

So just because she's a Fairy type, she automatically needs to come back? So suddenly Pokemon types are really that important in Smash? Then why don't we have one Pokemon for each and every single type there is? Also, what Fairy type moves could Jiggs use besides Dazzling Gleam, Fairy Wind, or Moonblast (if they're really going to take liberties)? Is that all? How could Dazzling Gleam or Fairy Wind operate any more effectively than Sing or Rest? A good majority of the Fairy type moves deal stat changes in Pokemon and Smash Bros doesn't have stats. It just doesn't seem like there are enough physical Fairy attacks to really change anything about the way Jigglypuff plays now. Sure, Fairy type was a big addition for 6th gen. But it doesn't really translate well into Smash (outside of maybe Moonblast as a Final Smash if we're really going to stretch it that far) the same way that something like Mega Evolutions do. Mega Evolutions fit perfectly for Final Smashes because they're transformations and that's something a lot of the non-Pokemon characters in Smash are able to do as well so it's not that much of a stretch to add them. Fairy type is big in the fact that it brought drastic changes to how Pokemon is played. But Smash Bros plays nothing like Pokemon. But providing fun gameplay is something literally every single character in Smash Bros does. That's how the gameplay works. She has her own moves, sure, but that trait is not exclusive to Jigglypuff either. From what I can see, literally all this character has is being in the game just for the sake of being in when all the other characters, especially the Pokemon ones, bring something else to the table. What she takes away from being in the game is holding a spot in a particularly crowded franchise and keeping a potential new Pokemon (regardless of who it is) from getting a chance in Smash. We don't know how many Pokemon characters we will have this time or if it's going to keep growing. If Sakurai really doesn't think having 8 characters is too many and that it's okay for Pokemon to keep getting more characters with each installment, fine. Good. Jiggs can stay because we're at least continuing to get more variety in our line-up. But if we're starting to reach the limits, then who gets chosen starts to matter more and more because Pokemon is constantly growing and changing all the time. Representing all of its diversity and variety in Smash Bros becomes more and more difficult if we can't go beyond 6 characters. Notice that the Pokemon line-up has never been completely the same in any Smash installment. Characters are coming and going with each new game. If Mewtwo, Pichu, Squirtle, and Ivysaur can get cut to make room for other Pokemon characters, then why can't Jigglypuff? She's been in this series for 3 games now so it's not like we'd be removing her before she reached her full potential or anything. Ice Climbers are just like Captain Falcon. They're the only ones representing their game franchise. Cutting them means we lose that representation on the roster. This applies to all of the retro characters individually representing their old games. R.O.B was an iconic accessory of the NES era. He isn't remembered for being particularly useful, but his gimmick as a game peripheral made him unique at the time. He was more part of Nintendo's history than a specific game character. But he's representing that aspect of Nintendo's history and we lose that if he gets cut. Jigglypuff isn't representing Pokemon all by herself so she really is not in the same boat.

brawlmaster012 It's not that she's a fairy type that she needs to come back, it's that she's the NEW type. The new type introduced in X and Y that happened to be fairy is an integral part of the game. And because the fairy type was so important to X and Y it makes sense that a Fairy type pokemon should be on the roster, and as it turns out there's already one right there ready made for them, I bet that's even why they advertised her as the posterboy for fairies over Clefairy, they were prepping her for Sm4sh. They don't need to completely overhaul her moveset, she is still half normal. They just need to incorporate her new type somehow. One or two new special moves and a final smash would be enough. As for the moves themselves, I would like to remind you that Rest doesn't OHKO opponents in the actual pokemon games, so I think they can change the new fairy moves accordingly as well (though I don't think they'd actually need to, her current moveset is entirely physical so special moves like most of the fairy moves would help diversify). Yes every character has fun gameplay, but why does the fact that other characters have fun gameplays take away from her's? People enjoy playing as her, and there are people who are just Jigglypuff fans in general. You should always try to avoid cutting a character if possible. The concept of "spots" doesn't really work like that, adding one character doesn't really prevent another from getting added, Sakurai decides the roster at the start and then takes the time he needs to finish that roster. I guess you could argue that deciding to add Jiggs at the beginning means they decided to not add someone else, but that's not really true either. AGen II pokemon still made it into Melee, a Gen IV pokemon still made it into Brawl and now a Gen VI pokemon has made it into Sm4sh. Jigglypuff isn't stopping new pokemon from getting in, and I don't think they'll ever reach a point where she might, because with each new installment the roster will get bigger, which means Pokemon's roster will too. Yeah cutting Jiggs isn't the same as removing a whole series, but there has only been one Ice Climbers game and it came out a long time ago, and I don't think they're planning on reviving them anytime soon, so really the entire IC series is just as archaic and outdated, and since the ice climbers have already been in 2 games aren't they really just getting in because of tradition too?

James Belnap I played XY and I didn't really feel Fairy type was really that much of an integral part of the game. I encountered a handful of wild Fairy type Pokemon and there was a gym centered around it. But that was it. Maybe it's notable as part of the competitive scene or metagame, but for the game as a whole, and especially in the story, it seems like Mega Evolutions are being promoted and marketed as the big new addition this generation. Jigglypuff is far from the posterchild for Fairy type. I think that honor goes to Gardevoir or even Sylveon before Jigglypuff. If she were not in Smash before Fairy type was introduced, I'm confident we would've seen Sylveon or something before Jiggs. Rest as a OHKO is different, I'll give you that. But let's say hypothetically that some of these new Fairy moves did get put into her moveset if they are as important as you say they are. What specifically would they do to opponents in Smash and how would they be more effective and useful than the moves Jigglypuff already has? I'm just not able to picture how they would work. Not denying the possibility, just admitting my difficulty to picture it. It's not that anything is being taken away from Jigglypuff's gameplay. It's that you can't say Jigglypuff is the only character to offer a unique moveset lending to a unique style of gameplay. Every single character in Smash Bros (excluding the clones to an extent) has a unique moveset that lends to a unique style of gameplay because the characters don't all play the same way. My point is that Jigglypuff is not the only character in Smash to have a unique moveset. Not by a long shot. I'm actually in favor of cutting as few characters as possible. All this talk about spots is nothing but pure speculation because Sakurai gives us so little insight into how he actually decides on characters for the roster. There's no way of knowing for sure right now what the Pokemon line-up for this game will look like so I'm just giving my guess. Jigglypuff was meant to be a WTF character in the original Smash and that was fine because there were so few characters back then. She was supposed to be a joke character. But she's been a running joke throughout the entire series and that has lost its magic since we've had new WTF characters come along since then like ROB and Wii Fit Trainer. These new WTF characters bring something more to the table than just being unexpected. ROB is part of Nintendo's history and the Wii brand was very successful for Nintendo so Wii Fit Trainer makes sense to help represent that. But I don't see Jigglypuff having many other justifying reasons. Being a running joke is all the Jiggs seems to have left. I mean, what did she have to offer in Melee or Brawl before the Fairy type was introduced other than the same old moveset from before? The other Pokemon have gotten in for other reasons. Pichu worked in Melee because he could be made into a Pikachu clone. Lucario was growing in popularity because of his movie. Greninja was chosen from concept art before XY's release because Sakurai wanted a 6th gen Pokemon. But what does Jigglypuff have to offer now other than tradition for tradition's sake and a new type that could be easily covered by any other Fairy type Pokemon if one were to be included? I love Pokemon and I'd always love to see new characters added from it into Smash. But we just don't know for sure what is happening with Pokemon right now. We don't know if there will be more Pokemon characters or less. We don't know what Sakurai has been planning. He can decide to do whatever he wants for the roster. If he wants to cut Jigglypuff, he can. If he wants to give her new Fairy type moves, he can. But I'm trying not to assume there will be more in the event that there isn't so I won't be disappointed. To keep the Pokemon line-up fair in size while adding new faces, something has to give. I'm not saying there is absolutely nothing redeeming about Jiggs because if that were true, she would've been cut already. But when I try to come up with a list of reasons to justify each Pokemon character's inclusion. Jigglypuff's is the shortest. But I just don't see why some people make it out to be so unthinkable to even touch Jigglypuff, yet it's perfectly okay to cut other Pokemon characters like Squirtle, Ivysaur, and Mewtwo. Yes, it is reasonable to say that the Ice Climbers are only being kept around for tradition's sake. To be perfectly honest, I have never really cared much for the Ice Climbers so I personally would be indifferent if they didn't return. But still, they do represent their own series, and losing that would be more substantial than losing one character from a series that already has 4 characters at minimum. Losing IC would have more weight than losing Jiggs. While it doesn't seem likely that Ice Climbers will be seeing a new game in the near future, there's always the chance it could get one someday. Pit got a new game after being dormant for 20 years. Same could happen to Ice Climbers. What if that's the next project Sakurai wants to tackle? We never can tell with this guy.

The fact that it affected gameplay so strongly and had a large amount of hype surrounding it makes it seem like a very integral part of the game to me. Assuming that it is important to have a fairy type in the roster, wouldn't it be better to use the character you already have? I suppose they could make an Ice climbers game at some point, I certainly wouldn't put it past Sakurai.

James Belnap Eh, to each their own I guess. I just personally didn't feel Fairy type affected my experience with the game all that much. I mean yeah, there was a new type to consider for some battles, but for the most part the game still felt like the same old Pokemon game I've come to expect. But I guess more people got into it than me. Well, I would certainly hope adding Fairy moves would make her better than her old moveset. If they're trying to make the roster more balanced and therefore help Jigglypuff stay more competitive, then I'd hope that the moves will be at least some degree more useful than her normal moves or open up new possibilities for her. Otherwise if they can't, what's the point of changing her at all if this new representation doesn't change how she plays in Smash? The removal of any character is indeed sad and I've never spoken of removing any character with any degree of happiness. It's because I know that hurts certain fans to lose their favorite character and I can relate because there are characters I loved in Brawl that probably will not be coming back this time. Whenever I speak of characters getting removed, I'm speaking entirely objectively. I only discuss their chances from a realistic standpoint. But it does not at all mean I want the character removed. I may not really care for Jiggs that much, but I'm not trying to argue that she should be cut just because I don't like her. I'm only suggesting a hypothetical possibility. Well, that probably depends on who you ask and the character in question. I've never really cared about Jigglypuff and having a Fairy type moveset probably would not really change anything for me, especially since I've just been indifferent to Fairy type in general. On the otherhand, I love that they're bringing Lucario and Charizard back and making use of their Mega Evolutions. That's very fitting. But I'm sure people would feel this way about Jigglypuff. Just not me.

I hope Mewtwo is one of them, but as for the other one, that's actually really hard to pick one. Maybe it could in fact be Sceptile if I'm wrong about him. I'd personally want to see Squirtle come back as his own character since he's fairly popular as well and he was a great character in Brawl. But it probably will not happen because too many gen 1 Pokemon at that point, and it would seem weird to drop Ivysaur but keep Squirtle and Charizard. And to anyone who says we couldn't have two Pokemon of the same type, Pikachu and Pichu from Melee say hi. It wouldn't even be the same this time since Squirtle and Greninja would play nothing alike. But, getting both Squirtle and Mewtwo is just a pipe dream. I still think it's going to be Jigglypuff, despite my argument to remove her this time.
