Five Devious Questions About the GOLDEN AGE OF COMICS! This quiz features the Superman, Batman, and The Justice Society. fizzfop-store.creator-spring.com
I like this and appreciate how informative these question are. Never knew Jerry and Joe were cousins before! Just the right level of difficulty. Also, you kept it short, and that's a definite plus for me.
Although I do not consider myself an expert on Golden Age comics (or on anything to be honest) I have read a lot of them and quite a bit on them. The reason I enjoyed this quiz is because I only got one right! Most internet quizzes are really just click bait and pretend that you're a genius if you know who Fess Parker was. This one actually taught (or reminded me of) things. The only caveat is that I wished it went on longer. But aside from that - do it again! There are so many interesting questions one could do about the original Sandman, Human Torch, (yes) Wonderman, and on more obscure characters. Look forward to feeling like a dummy again...
True that most don't know a lot about the Golden Age but this is a fun way for them to learn! Also, most of us learned about this stuff as we grew up in the comic community from our shops, fellow fans and books like Wizard.
This was fun, definitely do more! !I'm still kicking myself for getting 4 wrong. Also re DC and Victor Fox, the Golden Age Blue Beetle and Sparky cameoed in a recent DC comic, though it was a tie-in to the CW Stargirl/Arrowverse stuff instead of a "real" in-continuity story. It was pretty cool and I was honestly blown away.
Interestingly in Canada we had propaganda in the 90s that taught people that Jerry and Joe were cousins, and that they created superman in Toronto, and metropolis is based on Toronto, and the daily planet was based on the Toronto Star building (which looks exactly like the daily planet with out the giant globe). They would run commercials and had commemorative stamps and everything.
I found those commercials on RU-vid a while back and I thought then I might make a video about them...when I thought up the trivia idea those were the first questions I thought of.
I loved it despite doing miserably. As a note of interest, Joe Schuster was the nephew of Frank Schuster of the Canadian comic duo of Wayne and Schuster, one of Ed Sullivan's favourite comic acts
I LOVE this format! Trivia games are my bread and butter so combining the two formats make me incredibly happy and entertained. Plus I learned something as well. (Also side note: I would love a Wonderman video!)
A trivia quiz with questions that actually make you think! Holy surprises, Batman! I managed Vandal Savage but messed up on the relationship between Joe and Jerry. A fun quiz!
A great idea. Your format is perfect. The banter in-between timers and buzzers makes it more entertaining. The question difficulty is also perfect. I only missed the first question. My only complaint is it's too short. Track down a Sheena 3-D #1 by Blackthorne. Jerry Iger talks about her creation and the collaboration with Will Eisner of the character. It's really fascinating and is great material for a video.
I love golden age supers and consider myself fairly knowledgeable about the time. I even run several tabletop rpgs about them on a virtual platform. I was surprised to only get 3 of these correct. Well done! I like that it was both entertaining and informative. Keep them coming!
That was great fun! I failed miserably, so your questions were tight! You have a great voice for your programs, too, don’t stop! One suggestion (you asked us!) maybe swap out the buzzer sound for the game show bell sound? You can use the buzzer for the last question/end of game. Just an idea!
This is my 3rd video and it's what made me start subscribing to you. This was a fun game, got 3 right and should have gone with my gut for the Bob Kane question. Difficulty was just right!
Vandal Savage level (missed question #5). That was fun! Yes I'd like to do this again at a later date. Perhaps you can combine the Trivia Challenge with a summary of the character like you started to do with the Wonderman/Fox Publishing scandal. Will Eisner started illustrating it in his "The Dreamer" graphic novel but I want to hear more about it.
Definitely keep these coming, FF. It was challenging, interesting and a lot of fun. And that’s coming from old Solomon Grundy here. 🤯 I loved it and can only encourage you to toss these onto your great channel as mood permits. Here’s one for you, oh wise one: What did Pa Kent call his tractor?
You better not,FF, or you might hit the rabbit hole. I was just goofing and the punch line was intended to be that Pa Kent called his tractor his “tractor.” I’m a riot, aren’t I? 🤨
I thought I knew my golden age really well, which is why I always enjoy your vids. Turns out I'm Grundy. Great fun though, but it's a quiz that you either know the answer straight away or you don't, so I'd cut the allotted time down to 10 secs. And yeah, a couple of easy ones for us born-on-a-monday! love all you do though man, keep it up!
I think you're right about changing the time length Shaun. A lot of people have commented that it went too fast. I think I might make it 10 questions next time and through in some easy ones. I didn't know so many people were going to hit the Grundy level.
Loved this! I was embarrassedly wrong more times than I was right, but that's fine. It means I learned a thing or two while having fun! I hope you do this again on a regular basis.
Very fun! I've watched a bunch of your videos, but I still missed a couple. I didn't know about Wonder Man's case, I had heard of Captain Marvel, though. Do this again, thank you!
Gosh darn it!!! Solomon Grundy it is.... LOL!! As much as I am into Golden Age heroes and have devoured most of your back catalog of videos, I missed most of these, ha! I was close on most of them though. I fell for the Captain Marvel bait, I thought Hawkman was the chairman, I didn't know about the Superman gents being cousins, etc. etc. I did know about Cleveland though (since I was born there and still live in the area I should have, lol!) I liked this , a nice change of pace!
Hey Datalynx Magnus! I'm from Northeast Ohio too. I grew up near Kent. Lived in Lakewood for a bit. I now live in Columbus. I thought that Captain Marvel question was a great bait question. I wanted this to be a little hard...but I'm surprised at the number of people who have told me they hit the Solomon Grundy level.
@@FizzFop1 WOW really?? So I live in Stow, went to Kent for college, grew up in Elyria, born in Cleveland! Small, Small world eh? And FYI I don't think the questions were too hard, they can't be too easy, otherwise there's no challenge. Keep em coming my guy!
This. was fun. Even though I only got 2 right I liked this. It was different yet still informative. I love learning things about comics that I didn't know I didn't know. I would suggest that you expand the amount of questions to 10, if you do this again. The questions were just the right level of difficulty for me, there just needed to be more of them. And I would love to see that Wonderman video, and the Fox one too.
This was a lot of fun and some of the questions I thought they were common knowledge to most comic book fans for example the infringement of Superman and Captain Marvel I didn’t know there was a case before that. Also who knew that the creators of Superman were cousins that’s very interesting. Plus I never knew that Bob Kane swiped that cover idea from Alex Raymond I bet there was other artists that he swiped from as well. So the original Superman stories took place in Cleveland? I personally thought that metropolis was another version of California. I say this because Gotham city seemed like New York City and sometimes it is referred to as Gotham. Sure I think you should do this trivia type of stuff every now and then this is the first one and it was pretty cool but back to work on that video on Golden age wonder man. 😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂 thank you for the great fun
Metropolis is a small town in southern Illinois. Falling out of the Daily Planet windows was no big deal since it is a one story building. It would be a fun trivia fact to work as a question especially when Metropolis was founded and when they officially became Superman 's hometown. Also, is there a real Smallville and Gotham City?
This was a good one. I would like more. Maybe even longer, like 10 questions if you can swing it. If your topic is smaller though a shorter quiz is fine. I didn't get any answers right, but I still enjoyed it.
It was fun, but I only got 1/5, the question about wonderman before captain marvel. I guess that’s why I watch your videos, to learn more about the golden age and beyond.
A lot of fun. I was pretty cocky with the Captain Marvel question. ( Which I got wrong) And the rest were all great questions I didn’t know the answer to. Let’s try again!
Sadly I'm on the Solomon Grundy level. But this was fun Darrin.I thought I would gotten the DC lawsuit question right, but it wasn't to be.But make this a regular thing.
I read a couple of articles that had conflicting information...one said there was Cleveland references until Action Comics 8 and the other article said there was Cleveland references up to Action Comics 11. The story goes is that Siegel and Shuster took it to the three Cleveland Newspapers to sell it as a daily strip and were rejected.
The Captain Marvel question was a trick one...The story of their lawsuit is well known. It appears from comments that a lot of people don't know the story of Wonderman...I think I might have to move him up the to do list.
I hope you do more of these cuz this was a lot of fun As a person who prides himself on being an amateur and self-taught comic historian I love a good challenge I got three right and the ones I got wrong were what was Superman's first city which I guessed was Toronto since I knew Joe Schuster was Canadian and I got the final question wrong cuz I mixed up what Bob kane swipe was the one in question Anyways, great job and again I I hope you continue doing these and maybe even spread outside the Golden age, maybe do some on the Platinum age or later comic book ages
I got a 3 out of 5, I grew up with a lot of Golden Age reprints and a fair bit of it’s history, so I knew about Siegel & Shuster, The Wonderman lawsuit and Cleveland being the original Superman city, although the skyscrapers that feature in Action Comics #1 were also inspired by the NYC skyline IMHO. I remembered Flash as being a leading figure of the JSA in All Star Comics but had no idea he was the chairman. I had no idea about the Alex Raymond swipe by Bob Kane from Detective Comics #27, although there were several Hal Foster swipes in the earliest Detective Comics that can be spotted if you look for them. Anyways a fun bit of trivia. 🙂
The swipe question was a bit of a trick question...Kane swiped from all of those artists, but the cover was strictly Alex Raymond. Fans and Historians are constantly looking over Kane's work and discovering new swipes.
I got 2 out of five ..WHAT THE HECK ...I had no idea that Joe Shuster and Jerry Seagle were cousins, no wonder why they are very close and the I just minerly changed my answer on the original setting on Superman's original location ... but at least i'm learning something new from this trivia ...I got the last question right.. I knew Bob Kane wasn't that good, but people do borrow or do whatever in their art work and Batman would never be where it is I suppose and now we are loving it.
1.A...2.Cleveland?? 3.D?? 4.Hawkman??? 5.C?? Well I'm a Joker(I'm a smoker I'm a midnight drunker-ed ). Some people call me the space cowboy,Some call me the gangster of fun. Some people call me "Hey you"!!! Get your drunk ass off my lawn!!! HA!! I only got 3 right because I watch you vid's man. GREAT SHOW.
I missed the last one- The correct answer was one the 2 I’d narrowed it down to, but alas, I chose wrong. At least Vandal Savage is way cooler than Lex Luther, so I can live with it.
This was very fun. The questions were very hard. I only got one right. But honestly, I like it that way. Edit: If you do another one of those, you should make it questions about Pulp magazines characters. I definetly know a little bit more about those than about Golden Age superhero comics.
