I've returned to the old footpath and found more old coins and relics. Don't miss my report about the outcome of an archaeological excavation I was volunteering on recently. Amazing Roman silvers and even gold are waiting for you!

I left your beautiful country 34 years ago,At the end of my military commitment,Since then the wall has dropped and many changes have come to your lands,I am glad to see Germany is still in capable hands and Integrity with honesty is still the peoples way,I am presently up to video 82,But watch several a day,Thank You for your delightful endeavors of being the metal detectorist with a sense of humor,And yet the passion that drives us all on to do what make our lives work,I am too old now to do these things,So I live on through people such as yourself.

I unlike other military people,Sought out the outland people,They were unsure of me,Yet once you showed them you meant no harm,They were very genuine and warm , I have many nice memories,Including a very nice lady from Lichtenfels,She was possibly the best lady I have ever met,I hope she is well,And life has been kind to her. Please keep up the good work and will see you in the movies as they say.

You always make the best, professional grade videos and I look forward to seeing each one. You don't spend too much time on introduction filler music to your videos or in showing off your finds to the world just to brag. Your music and countryside pictures compliment your videos by adding a relaxed and peaceful presence. I can tell that you are genuinely excited about the finds you make no matter if you get to keep them or not. I have found that actually finding the past is the best part. Your knowledge and expertise shines through to make every video very interesting. Thank you so much

Hans, a farmer from Maine here and stumbled upon your relaxing site one chilly Autumn day. Your 2-piece treasure from the path looks like a dragon fly etching and thought it could be something from a dairy to mark or personalize a stick of butter to show which farm it was sold by. I have three of different floral designs made of Beech-wood that were on a hook at the butter churn in the milking parlor. I enjoy your site.

Many years ago I helped Archaeologist here in Japan 🗻 When they where done with the dig and only going down so deep, I would mark and more sounds that were deeper with a chop stick 🥢 most were old bronze coins that were missed....They even made me a copy of their coin etchings book" Wish I could do that again"🤸‍♂️

Hi Hans, it's good to watch another of your detecting missions. We all seem to be waiting with baited breath, for the next episode of you uncovering ancient history in your magnificent German countryside. This is hardly surprising, considering the quality of content, and the standard of photography that you provide us with. Long may it continue my friend. As I remarked a while ago, to me, you possess the quite rare ability to captivate your audience without any silly hype, eye-balls-out, brashness, or 'semi-cultured' knowledge. Many of the ways in which you go about sharing your cherished pastime with your fellow detectorists, still serves to remind me of watching , and taking on board, the videos of the late, real, 'Norfolk Wolf'; John Lynn. Easy-mannered, laid-back, informative, knowledgeable, steady, and fun. Credit where credit is due . All the best, good health, and HH.

Hans, the closing shot is breath taking, wonderful! Ok, there is so much to say.... first of all congrats of your volunteer work, very nice that you are so well respected that they would include you on their digs. You have built yourself a fine reputation. I wish you much more success in this aspect of your adventurous hobby. Second of all, your film making continues to blow my mind. So many angles, so many detailed shots, so much effort goes into your videos... you NEVER miss a beat. I have never seen an error, an out of focus shot, a narration mis-que... nothing. Absolutely fasinating to watch and enjoy. I still learn so much....I have followed you for two years.... you still amaze me. Also, your little clip....is not for garters, or suspenders, or overalls.... this too is horse brass. I have actually seen these clips.... they are big and thick. Believe it or not, my Grandpa Wild (From Wouttenberg) had these on his saddlebgs of his mules that he used to haul bottles of milk from the local dairy grocer to deliver. The bags there quite large (able to hold about 16 quart sized glass bottles each) and had a wooden frame inside. Hope this helps. Keep at it, you be making documentaries in no time.... All the best, Anna from Iowa.

hello anna, thank you, I'm glad you like the closing shot :) I'm always happy when I get the opportunity to work together with the archaeologists because I know that it gonna be interesting and exciting. unfortunately these people are very camera shy... I would love to make interviews to provide more insights and information about the archaeological work. thank you for appreciating my filming and editing. it is very time consuming but also part of my hobby and something I enjoy doing. the clip thing is part of a "pickelhaube" strap as many viewers already told me. google the word and you will see it in the 5th picture :) thank you for watching and for you kind comment my friend! all the best and greetings from germany, hans

Hans that first denarius you found in the dirt pile is gorgeous! @21:30 is the metal attachment for a Pickelaube helmet chinstrap. Also used on early Stahlhelm type helmets as well. But if it has gold gilt on it then it's from a pickelhaube. Very neat!

the thing at 21:45 looks the right size to be a beer bottle opener. It could also be the buckle for a woven cord kind of belt that doubles back through the openings to pull it tight. Something a soldier would lose along with his lighter? I love how you edit the cleaned finds into the dig part. Very satisfying to view.

Hello Hans it's lovely to see another of your brilliantly made videos. I think the beautiful dragonfly piece is a seal and was attached to the other piece originally, the buckle is very well made too. It was great to see you working with the archaeologists and to see the great finds as they come out of the dirt pile. Take care my friend, good luck and happy hunting Mary-Ellen UK

hello mary-ellen , thank you for watching and for your kind words about my video! the dragonfly piece is indeed interesting. It's still not clear what it is. I love to work together with archaeologists.. it's always interesting and I learn a lot. unfortunately they very rarely agree to be filmed let alone interviewed..I would love to pass on more detailed and deeper information about the topic. all the best and take care too + have a nice easter! hans

Hello, Hans! It's always a pleasure when I see that you've posted a video. The item you were wondering about is from a pre-1915 chin strap for a pickelhaube (spiked helmet). There were two of these on the chin strap and they fastened the strap to the body of the helmet. In 1915 the helmet fittings were given a gray colored coating to make them less reflective as shiny brass can give away the location of soldiers in combat. Excellent video as always, Hans. Thanks!

It's always interesting to see the various nationalities represented by money found at your various locations. I think the different coins often tell a good historical tale of what happened in an area. I think your strange find was a stocking garter clasp? The little plate with an etching is I think a Dragonfly. Maybe a charm of some kind?
