At Superbooth 2023, we spoke to Marius from MP MIDI about their MP controller that allows users to control all their third-party plugins like hardware. Compatible with major DAWs such as Logic, Ableton, Studio One, and Cubase, the controller features 127 encoders, four pages for mapping multiple parameters, and a favorites list for customization. The MP controller also allows for zooming on small plugins, controlling multiple parameters from a single knob, and templates for individual plugins are saved on the user's machine. The device can be connected via USB-A to USB-C or Thunderbolt, and there's an HDMI out to put the interface on a big screen, should you wish.

We received our model. It arrived safely in the US and the controller works perfectly. These guys are innovative and legit. Hold your criticism until you have used the controller. It is really nice to have hardware control VSTs. There is a reason they were sold out.

Just WOW! This thing definitely fills the gap between software and hardware and push the man/machine interaction to another level! No more "GUI" but just "UI". Well the design is a bit on the "garage project" side as the logo too (a bit old fashion '70s style). I hope in the future an "Ultra" version with a 17" FHD multitouch monitor (it would be amazing with a splittable screen with 2 plugins at the same time, say comp+eq, half screen and encoders for one vst and the other half for the other vst, like two of this machine in one), the "labels" out of the monitors in little RGB displays for each encoders (like the modern digital mixers), RGB led circles (absolute and relative) around the rotary encoders (like the BCR from Beh) and a more flat design. I would burn a x2 or x3 $$$ in an upgraded version like i described!

Funny thing is, since it's a smaller touchscreen - I would just reach out and touch the screen at that point. :) Also, "wrapper" is such a dirty word, already learned my lesson from AutoMap and that it's not worth it (same with Nektar and even Komplete Kontrol to a degree). To me this doesn't feel like hardware, it feels like a computer in a computer in a computer, if that makes sense. Nice and refreshing take on this type of solution though, for sure. Maybe if I tried it hands on I'd lke it, who knows.

I’ve been using this controller since 2020! Its functionality and the general concept of it has added an additional layer of speed to my workflow. Pre-assigning specific plugins and saving them as presets makes the whole workability a game changer indeed. Launch the controller’s plugin in your DAW, load the preset(s) and you are ready to go! Awesome work you guys! 🎛️

I'd like to see an option for better looking virtual pots. The physical encoders are pretty featureless. That's fine. But what would bring it together would be something modeled off of a classic pot from a Neve console or the ability to select such a thing. A flat disk isn't very exciting.

Very well priced it seems, certainly for something with a full blown screen. I am curious @sonicstate is it just noisy there, or are there a multitude of languages in use based on the various countries these vendors come from. Have watched so many of these videos and often times the answers don’t even reflect your question lol

I appreciate the effort but this makes no sense. You can’t develop muscle memory, you still have to look at the screen and the knobs are in no relation to the plug ins plus you have to use a third party plug in to use it. Just make a controller with a lot of buttons and knobs that support midi, OSC and sysex and and customizable displays besides each of it and we‘re golden. Elektra one is probably the closest at the moment.

It really cannot get simpler than that. Each encoder gets the name of the linked parameter automatically. You don't need to remember anything. When changing presets on a plugin, the controller is always in sync. No jumps or pick ups.

it makes sense, the 2D rectangle of knobs around screen makes sense, it's how many people think when assigning a 2D plugin with knobs to controller - these left knobs to one page, there upper right knobs to other page .... it looks of, but it could work. I wouldn't mind additional extender though with let's say 12 or more knobs in 2x6 or 3x6 grid below the screen...... so I guess Electra at the bottom for synths and instruments, MP above it for FX 😎

I had my eyes on this; only issue is this is an actual monitor so it's not great if you have a portable mac with only one monitor out and you already use one. that's on apple. What I'd like is a novation type controller with a small screen on the bottom; but make it at least 32 encoders and throw in some switches so you can have full synths

But a smaller version would mean you can't see the plugin. The idea is to see the plugin and parameter names next to each knob

@@mixalis1nl But this is just TOO much - the plugin there - then little visuals for each parameter? LED rotaries or at least putting the knobs over the screen so you're seeing one thing around the knob would be better. But overall this just seems confusing to me, cause my eye is drawn to the plugin, first and foremost - then I have to look ALL around the edge at 32 (!!) possible slots/knobs, then look to the knob to touch it... I think 8-12 knobs would have been better.

With a hardware synth you’re limited to that synths sounds. The point of a hardware synth is the tactile functionality, with this you can apply that to any virtual synth easily. You could in theory use a hardware synths knobs to control a vst, however you’ll be missing the virtual display and easy of mapping. A hardware synth isn’t a viable alternative.
